Bio

My name is Zack, I am a paramedic. I am going back to college to obtain my registered nursing degree. I am passionate about my patients and the care I provide for them. As a first responder I know firsthand that the quality and speed of care can often make a lifesaving difference. I am a big patient advocate and will always do what I can to support and help care for the patients under my care. Also, as a father of two children I am passionate about setting a good example for them. I am the first person in my family to go to college and I want to show them that anything is possible when you focus on your goals. My short-term goal is to become a registered nurse. I love helping people and just being there to hold their hands in the worst moment of their lives to provide comfort and support. I started my medical career as a paramedic, in EMS (Emergency Medical Services) my greatest frustration is the limitations I had in my field to help patients. I stumbled on a paramedic to RN (Registered Nurse) bridge program. While I enrolled in that program, my mind always works ahead causing me to form my long-term goal. I am a great candidate because I am passionate about my profession and my patients. Due to my passion, it drives me to further my education and knowledge to provide better care for each patient. In conclusion, I want to thank you for taking the time to read my biography. I believe I will make an excellent nurse due to my passion and empathetic nature.

In this response, I will explain how I plan to give back to the community, my goals and the attributes that make me unique. I have always been interested in giving back to my community and helping others in their greatest time of need. As a paramedic, I am used to running a fast-paced life, from cardiac pulmonary resuscitation to gunshot wounds. I have learned to treat as much as I can in the back of an ambulance. The reason I am unique is that I want to further my education and become a nurse practitioner. I have always been interested in the medical field. I feel like people need the greatest help when they are sick or injured. People are unique and they can overcome a lot but without medical help is when people suffer the most. I have been in the medical field for over 12 years as a paramedic. This gives me a unique perspective when going through nursing school and then nurse practitioner school. As a paramedic, I am taught to look at people and triage them in 60 seconds through what we call a “doorway assessment”. This training enables me to find the most critical patients and help them in their greatest time of need. This will help me in furthering my education by allowing me to help most people in the shortest possible time. After I have finished nursing school I would like to work in a low-income area. This will let me help those unable to afford proper medical care. While I work there, I would like to continue my education as a nurse practitioner. Once I have obtained my degree I will continue to work and volunteer in low-income areas. Growing up I was extremely poor and was unable to obtain the medical care I needed. My family relied on low-income clinics and the emergency room to provide care for us. This gives me a unique perspective to be empathetic towards people who are unfortunately often looked down upon with pity, disgust or treated rudely. In conclusion, I plan to give back to the community by volunteering my time at low and free clinics to help assist people who are unable to otherwise afford healthcare. The unique attributes that will aid me are Empathy, my training as a medic and my experiences growing up as a child. I believe all these combined makes me unique and determined to put my best foot forward to help people.
