Carlynn's Comic Scholarship
As a child, I was always told that comics and graphic novels weren’t real books. I believed it, until the second grade. I was at the Piscataway summer camp, where I took a comic creation class, Mr. Longo, the counselor, let us pick two of his comics for ourselves. I unknowingly picked two variants of Captain America #1 (2010) and honestly, to say I fell in love is an understatement. I started visiting my local shop every week, going to conventions, and consuming as much comic culture as possible. Now, as an English Education major, I am hoping to go on and pass on my knowledge of comic books through my classroom curriculum. After I retire I’d like to open my own comic book cafe. I hope to help the students like myself because if it wasn't for those comics I wouldn’t be the person I am today.
