Bio

I am a student driven by a deep desire for knowledge and personal growth. I am motivated by learning not only to better myself, but to gain the skills and understanding needed to help others in meaningful ways. I remain optimistic about the future and what it holds as I continue my education, and I am committed to using every opportunity I am given to grow academically and personally. I am passionate about exploring new ideas and abilities, traveling, and giving back to those in need. Helping others has always been important to me, which is why I aspire to become a speech therapist. My goal is to work with individuals who have disabilities and help improve their quality of life, even if only in small but meaningful ways. My interest in this career began through my younger brother, who has been struggling with an eating disorder since he was one year old. Through supporting him and watching his speech therapist work closely with him, I saw firsthand the impact this profession can have. Their dedication, patience, and encouragement helped motivate my brother and allow him to make significant progress in his journey. Seeing how much their work changed his life inspired me to pursue this career path myself. I want to become the kind of speech therapist who offers hope, support, and encouragement just as they did for my brother. This experience has strengthened my determination to continue my education and has shaped my long-term goals.

Education has always represented more than academic success to me, it represents survival, hope, and the opportunity to build a better future. My family’s journey from Cuba to the United States was filled with uncertainty, sacrifice, and perseverance. Leaving behind everything familiar in search of safety and opportunity was not easy, but it taught me the true value of resilience and determination. Watching my family rebuild their lives from the group up showed me that education is one of the most powerful tools for creating change and stability. As my family adjusted to a new country, we faced challenges that tested us emotionally and financially. Despite these obstacles, my parents emphasized the importance of education as a way forward. Their sacrifices inspired me to work harder and remain grateful for the opportunities I now have. Growing up in a household shaped by struggle taught me empathy and strengthened my desire to give back to others facing adversity. One of the most defining challenges in my life has been my younger brother’s eating disorder, which he has been struggling with since he was one. Watching him endure daily difficulties was painful, yet it revealed the strength of both my brother and family. Speech therapists played a vital role in his progress, offering patience, encouragement, and support when he needed it most. Seeing how their work helped him gain confidence and improve his quality of life sparked my passion for becoming a speech therapist. Through my brother’s journey, I learned that compassion combined with knowledge can change lives. I witnessed how professionals used their education to uplift my brother during his most vulnerable moments, and I knew I wanted to do the same for others. His progress continues to motivate me to pursue a career dedicated to helping individuals with disabilities feel supported and understood. Beyond my family, I have seen hardship within my community, particularly among children experiencing food insecurity. Many students depend on school meals and face weekends or breaks without consistent access to food. Motivated by these realities, I became involved in community service efforts focused on food assistance. I help organize food and supply donations for families in need and packed food bags for students on my school campus. Each Friday, I personally delivered snack packs to classrooms to ensure children would not go hungry. These experiences taught me that education carries responsibility. It gives us the ability to recognize suffering and the means to respond with empathy and action. By continuing my education, I hope to honor my family’s sacrifices and use my knowledge to serve others. As a future speech therapist, I want to provide hope, encouragement, and support just as others did for my brother. Through my education, I plan to help and make the world a more compassionate and inclusive place.
