More importantly, committing to service projects and volunteer service has changed my life. I appreciate math because no matter where you go in the world the language of math is spoken. May be at different levels depending on who you are conversing with, nevertheless, one plus one is always two. Because of this free trade is possible between everybody. If we were to every find life on another planet, we may not be able to communicate through our languages. Math is a universal language and would be our way to connect. I enjoy the precision of math, there are no gray areas. In math there aren’t times that the equation cannot be solved, because with time it can always be worked out. I am currently taking linear algebra and multivariate calculus in my senior year, that's challenging but very interesting. Without math many industries doesn’t even exist for sure. My mind felt paralyzed in the tranquility of the funeral home. I was muted by shock when I looked at my dad’s lifeless, defeated hands and pale lips that would never hug or utter a word to me. I was twelve years old, when I lost my dad from kidney cancer. My twin brother and I were transitioning from elementary school to middle school, while my dad was transitioning from a healthy, cheerful life to painful deteriorating health with harsh treatments of immunotherapy, radiation and chemotherapy. Nevertheless, my grandfather, who was living with us, could not tolerate the situation and ended up having a stroke. My family started crumbling apart since. My mom was the only breadwinner and a caregiver left in the family with two young kids. She was exhausting her mental, physical and financial strength. Increased unavoidable expenses forced her to borrow money from our friends and families. April 17, 2019 we lost the backbone of our family, my dad. As we were trying to mentally stabilize ourselves from it, my grandfather also left this world on August 5th. Losing both of my family members one after another was very heartbreaking and emotionally overwhelming. I felt like lightning struck our life and left us with grief and tremendous pressure that nothing could relieve. Even though the death of my father made me realize the importance of cherishing time with family, we had to sacrifice our social life, joy of holidays, sports and vacations from our young age. Upon my dad’s passing, the financial burden became the sole responsibility of my mother. To meet our day-to-day challenges, she had to work many extra hours. Since then, my brother and I have learned to take responsibility for our household chores to support our family. I refused to let the fact that ‘I am fatherless’ define the great things that I can accomplish. I was given a life that’s mine, and I have to make the best out of it. Knowing that I have to work harder, led me to be the person I am today. I took fire inside of me and pushed myself to keep my strong academics possible. My strong determination and self motivation has helped me with many leadership roles in extracurricular activities. I will be serving as Junior Marshal in my school’s Senior graduation ceremony this year for logistics.
