Throughout my life, relationships have shaped almost every part of who I am today, but no relationship has impacted me more than the one I have with my younger brother, who has autism. Growing up with him changed the way I view responsibility, stability, and pressure from a very young age. It made me realize how deeply people depend on consistency, emotional support, and the feeling that someone will always be there for them when life becomes difficult. As I got older, I began realizing how much pressure I carried internally because of that responsibility. I constantly felt the need to stay strong, composed, and dependable for the people around me even when I was struggling myself. Over time, that mindset became exhausting. There were periods in my life where I was dealing with injuries, financial stress, uncertainty about my future, academics, and personal struggles all at once, but I still felt like I could not afford to fall apart emotionally because too many people depended on me staying together. Watching my younger brother rely so heavily on structure and emotional stability made me realize how important those things are in everyone’s life. When life feels unstable financially, emotionally, or mentally, it affects everything. It affects confidence, motivation, relationships, and the ability to feel secure about the future. There were moments where I genuinely felt overwhelmed by uncertainty, especially when trying to balance school, athletics, career goals, and family responsibilities. At times it felt like no matter how hard I worked, I was constantly trying to stop everything around me from collapsing. Because of my brother, I learned early how much your actions and energy affect the people around you. I learned patience during moments where I was frustrated and emotional awareness during moments where I felt drained myself. Most importantly, I learned how important it is to create stability for the people you care about even when your own life feels uncertain internally. My relationship with him shaped the way I approach relationships with everyone else in my life. It made me value loyalty, consistency, and emotional support deeply. It also taught me that some struggles are invisible. People often carry pressure internally that nobody else fully sees or understands. Because of that, I try to approach people with empathy and patience rather than judgment. As a Finance student at the University of Miami Herbert Business School, I have become increasingly interested in industries like sports, hospitality, and real estate because they are heavily relationship driven. Through internships and professional experiences, I have seen how trust, communication, and leadership shape long term success. Technical skills matter, but relationships are what truly hold teams, businesses, and people together over time. Recently, those lessons have become even more personal because of my current financial situation at school. While trying to continue my education at the University of Miami, I have faced major uncertainty surrounding tuition, loans, and whether I will be able to remain enrolled. There were moments where the stress of potentially losing the opportunity to continue my education felt overwhelming. Despite that uncertainty, I still felt pressure to remain composed and continue pushing forward for myself and the people around me. That experience made me realize how deeply instability can affect someone emotionally when their future suddenly feels uncertain despite how hard they are working. More than anything, these experiences taught me that success means very little if you lose empathy and perspective along the way. A large part of my motivation comes from wanting to create both opportunity and stability not only for myself, but also for the people I care about. I want to build a future where the people around me feel supported, secure, and proud of the person I became. At the end of the day, my relationship with my younger brother shaped the way I view resilience, pressure, and responsibility. It taught me how deeply stability impacts people’s lives and how much strength it takes to continue moving forward during periods of uncertainty. Those lessons changed me in ways no classroom, internship, or achievement ever could, and they continue motivating me every day to become stronger, more dependable, and more driven toward building a better future for the people around me.
