Growing up my family didn't have many privileges due to low income. Still to this day, we find ourselves struggling. I am a first-generation college student in my family to get my High School Diploma and be in college. Since I was a little girl all I wanted was to become a nurse or doctor so that I could help people. I wanted to make a change in this world and I wanted to make my family proud. I come from immigrant parents who left their lives in Mexico to give their children a chance at the American dream. So, like anyone with a similar background to mine understand what it feels like to want to make your family proud. It became more clear to me that I wanted to become a nurse after seeing how much of an impact nurses had on patients. My mother had battled breast cancer since I was 12 years old. I was with her throughout all of her treatments and all of her doctor visits. The way the nurses helped and made her feel comforted and heard made me realize that that is what I wanted to d for others. I want to help others the way those nurses positively impacted my mom. But how has this impacted my way of viewing the world you may ask? Seeing my family go through financial trouble and seeing my mom battle such a horrid disease makes you realize that the world isn't as it seems. Once you start to see what trouble occurs in the real world you can't go back to having that carelessness and innocence you once had as a kid. Since my mother had gotten diagnosed my whole world became clear of how things actually were. I had to mature early on in my life because I had to help out my parents with the housework and in helping them make payments. I see the world as a test; you either make it or you don't. You control your own destiny; if you make bad decisions, there will be consequences, but nothing is impossible everything always has a solution.
