Bio

I cannot attribute a single moment where my decision to advance my career was my overall focus. Initially, I wanted to become a Pediatrician, but being a young mother of two boys was a conflict in pursuing that path. However, nursing was my calling because it is much more than medicine. It is about caring for the whole person holistically. My nursing experience has prepared and shaped my decision to continue to pursue my career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I have years of Critical Care experience, including management, nurse education, and Family Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing. I completed my DNP at Florida Atlantic University to achieve my CRNA in the future. Developing myself to pursue further and accomplish the Anesthesiology program will open that pathway to achieving my dream goal. I want to be a better-rounded medical professional and serve my community, including the underserved population.

Since an early age, I have been captivated by the profound impact that healthcare professionals have on individuals and their communities. Witnessing the dedication, compassion, and expertise of those in the healthcare industry has ignited a fire within me—a fire that fuels my desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My mission for joining the healthcare industry is rooted in a genuine belief in the power of healing, comfort, compassion, giving back, and support. I aspire to be a source of hope and reassurance for individuals during their most vulnerable moments. I want to contribute to a healthcare system that not only focuses on physical well-being but also recognizes the importance of holistic care—addressing the emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of patients. To me, being a healthcare professional means being a lifelong learner and continuously seeking knowledge and innovation. I am committed to staying abreast of the latest advancements in medical technology, research, and treatment modalities. By embracing a mindset of continuous learning, I aim to provide the highest quality of care to those I serve. Another essential aspect of my mission is fostering a culture of empathy, respect, and inclusivity within the healthcare industry. I strongly believe that every individual, regardless of their background, deserves to be treated with dignity and compassion. By embracing diversity and cultivating an environment of cultural sensitivity, I have demonstrated what it means to be in the nursing field. Furthermore, I recognize the importance of fostering trust and building meaningful connections with patients and their families. I aim to create a supportive and compassionate environment where individuals feel heard, understood, and empowered to actively participate in their own care. By collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and valuing diverse perspectives, I believe we can deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care that addresses the unique needs of each individual. In addition to direct patient care, I am committed to promoting health equity and addressing healthcare disparities. I understand that access to healthcare is not equal for everyone, and I am dedicated to advocating for underserved populations and working towards a more equitable healthcare system. I believe that no one should be denied the right to proper care due to their socio-economic status, race, ethnicity, or any other factors. Joining the healthcare industry is not merely a career choice for me; it is a calling and a lifelong commitment to service which I have served since 2010. I am excited about the potential to positively impact the lives of others and to contribute to a field that holds immense responsibility and significance. I am writing to share how my life experiences have profoundly influenced my decision to continue advancing my nursing career in anesthesia. The path that has led me to this decision has been shaped by numerous personal encounters and reflections. Throughout my life, I have had the privilege of witnessing firsthand the remarkable impact that nurses have on individuals and their families. From a young age, I was exposed to the compassionate care provided by healthcare professionals during a challenging time. The kindness, expertise, and unwavering support demonstrated by the nurses left an indelible mark on my heart. These experiences ignited a deep sense of empathy within me and a strong desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I realized that nursing offered a unique opportunity to combine my innate compassion with my dedication to improving the well-being of individuals and communities. It became clear to me that nursing was not merely a profession but a calling—a calling to serve and care for those in need. As I embarked on my academic journey, I sought out opportunities to immerse myself in the healthcare field and gain practical experience. Through volunteer work at local hospitals and healthcare facilities, I had the privilege of working alongside nurses and witnessing their tireless efforts to provide comfort, support, and healing. These experiences further reinforced my admiration for the nursing profession and deepened my resolve to pursue it as my own career path. Moreover, my personal encounters with illness and healthcare challenges have given me a unique perspective on the vulnerability and resilience of individuals facing health crises. Working through Covid 19 was a health crisis and it felt rewarding to help those in need. These experiences have taught me the importance of holistic care—treating not only the physical symptoms but also addressing the emotional, psychological, and spiritual needs of patients. I firmly believe that nursing encompasses more than just medical expertise; it requires a genuine connection with patients and a commitment to their overall well-being. My journey thus far has allowed me to develop key qualities that I believe are essential for a successful nursing career. I have honed my communication skills, cultivated a strong sense of empathy, and learned the significance of being an advocate for those who may not have a voice. These life experiences have shaped my values and instilled in me a deep respect for the dignity and worth of every individual. In conclusion, my life experiences have played a significant role in guiding my decision to choose nursing as a career. The profound impact that nurses have had on my own life, coupled with my passion for serving others, has solidified my commitment to making a positive difference in the healthcare field. I am eager to embark on this noble and rewarding journey, knowing that I can contribute to the well-being and comfort of individuals during their most vulnerable moments. Thank you for considering my application and for giving me the opportunity to share my story.
    Wieland Nurse Appreciation Scholarship
Ever since I was a small child, I knew I was destined to be in the medical field. My mother would always say that I enjoyed playing doctor with my toys. I enjoyed watching TV shows on Dr.G, a medical examiner, Emergency, Mystery diagnosis, and much more. Critical Care and Trauma Medicine was a vast interest, and nursing became my calling. The beauty of nursing is that it is versatile, and one can choose from numerous specialties. Nursing is about caring for the entire person holistically. My nursing experience has prepared and shaped my decision to continue to pursue my career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. The exquisiteness of nursing as a whole is its versatility. My inspiration developed throughout the years by immersing myself in different roles in the healthcare field. I have worked as a clinical bedside nurse in ICU, critical care educator, adjunct professor for nursing, and assistant nurse manager. The medical field is a whole spectrum of never-ending learning and opportunities. My dream job and goal is to become a nurse anesthetist. The role of a nurse anesthetist inquires administering anesthesia via general, local, or regional on patients undergoing a particular procedure or surgery. However, a nurse anesthetist role does not end there; it continues to incorporate the nursing aspect of caring for a patient as whole holistically. Knowing the scope of practice and role is vital in forming proper understanding for prospective students, providers, and the community. Developing myself to pursue further and accomplish the Anesthesiology program will open that pathway to achieving my dream goal. My inspiration to continue to finish the program is my two children. I want to be a better-rounded medical professional and serve my community, including the underserved population. Additionally, I want to provide for my family and be a good role model for my boys and single mothers. The beauty of nursing is that there is versatility and room to grow. In five years, I visualize myself teaching as an adjunct faculty for the future nurse anesthetist. Nursing is about caring for and serving others in need. The most self-rewarding feeling is knowing that you give back to a community. Its versatility is why I have continued to pursue my advancement in nursing as a nurse anesthetist. Being awarded the scholarship will assist me in my tuition as this is a full-time program, and no work is allowed. I want to thank you for the opportunity.

It has further provided me with more knowledge of evidence-based practices and treatment guidelines. I started advancing my career at Florida International University in the CRNA program. Being that it is a full-time program, I am fully committed to my studies and clinical. Being a CRNA is not only about delivering anesthesia but also incorporating the foundation of being a nurse which includes caring. The exquisiteness of nursing as a whole is its versatility. The role of a nurse anesthetist inquires administering anesthesia via general, local, or regional on patients who are undergoing a special procedure or surgery. However, a CRNAs role does not end there; it continues to incorporate the nursing aspect of caring for a patient as a whole holistically. Nursing is a career about helping others in need including the community and not just in the hospital setting. Giving back to the community is a reward.

Initially, I wanted to become a pediatrician, but being a single young mother of two boys was a conflict in pursuing medical school. However, I chose nursing as my calling because it is much more than general medicine. Nursing is about caring for that individual holistically regardless of their gender, race, or social status. My nursing experience has prepared and shaped my decision in continuing to pursue my dream career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). My career began at Mount Sinai Hospital in a Neuro step-down unit and evolved into different departments and facilities. I currently have 11 years of nursing experience, including critical care, management, and nurse education, and completed my Family Nurse Practitioner and Doctor of Nursing. I completed my DNP at Florida Atlantic University to achieve my CRNA in the future. Achieving my CRNA degree is my ultimate dream goal. It has taken years to decide to apply for CRNA school. CRNA school is a 3-year full-time program with the inability to work. I am a divorced single mother raising two boys since the beginning of my nursing career journey. It took years to save enough money to be able to pay all essential house bills while enrolled in the program. Raising two boys is very difficult, and I have to make arrangements for a babysitter. The program is very difficult and requires time away from family. My balance consists of arranging care between a babysitter, my mother, or my grandmother. Once I arrive home from school or clinical, I balance my study time and family time. It is a constant juggle between checking my homework and their homework. However, I know this sacrifice will be worth it in the end. Everything that I have accomplished has always been for my boys. The exquisiteness of nursing as a whole is its versatility. The role of a nurse anesthetist inquires administering anesthesia via general, local, or regional on patients who are undergoing a special procedure or surgery. However, a CRNA's role does not end there; it continues to incorporate the nursing aspect of caring for a patient as a whole holistically. Knowing the scope of practice and role of a CRNA are vital in forming a proper understanding for prospective students, providers, and the community. Developing myself to further pursue and accomplish the Anesthesiology program will open that pathway to achieving my dream goal. I want to be a better-rounded medical professional and serve my community including the underserved population. The beauty of nursing is that there is versatility and room to grow. I want to have a career with a steady schedule where I can dedicate my time off to my family while being able to provide.
