Hello, my name is Jesenia Correa. I have two grown children, my 20-year-old daughter and my 15 year old son. My daughter is currently in school earning her BA in Psychology and my son is working on his portfolio in high school because his goal is to attend New Jersey Institute of Technology. My son wants to be a programmer. I also have a wife who is also a nanny, she introduced me to the field of nanny. I used to work in banking for 8 years and I felt like something was missing, I went to help my wife with the girls she nannies and something inside of me clicked. I changed my career field to professional nanny. I have been in it for 4 years and I am the happiest I have ever been because I feel appreciated, loved, validated, and valued. Being in the world of children, I realize how much impact I can make when I am making the guiding. Helping children see outside the box, question information that don't make sense, being able to have their own mind. I find emotional intelligence very important because it is a core skill just like awareness, critical thinking, and social intelligence. This generation I feel needs guidance and I want to lead a movement where it's ok to be defiant over the things you can control. I am applying because I am currently in a bind. I graduate in May of 2024 with my BA in Early Childhood Administration. I am part of the LGBTQ+ community. Both my parents never finished middle school since they were forced to work in Dominican Republic. I was born and raised in the United States. My career right now is a professional nanny part time so that I can dedicate to my degree. I am working hard to maintain my 3.7 GPA for me to get accepted to a good graduate school and earn my master's degree in Social Work. I want to be able to make a change at the root of the cause, the children. I want to work my way into the school administration board where I can control the financial decisions of the school. In my experience, I know there are programs that are not being given to students, I know that public schools get funding and yet I don't see any progress, such as heat, air conditioning, extra-curricular activities, and sports. I am going to target low-income communities because I know parents don't have the access to information and resources for their children. I also want to open my private practice when I become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I want to help guide children into making good choices, help parents with guidance to resources that can help. It takes a village to raise children on all aspects, I want to bring a sense of community and togetherness back to a normalcy. Thank you for taking the time in reading my truth.
