I am pursuing a career in Diesel Mechanic, because I have always been passionate about working on vehicles and understanding how they operate. From a young age, I enjoyed learning how different mechanical systems work and solving problems with my hands. For the past four years, I have worked at Quint's Quality Services after school, during summer breaks, and over holiday breaks. That experience has given me hands-on knowledge, strengthened my work ethic, and confirmed that this is the field I want to pursue long-term. I enjoy the challenge of diagnosing problems, learning new technologies, and seeing the results of hard work when a vehicle is repaired correctly. I am passionate about diesel mechanics because it combines technical skill, problem-solving, and continuous learning. Vehicles are constantly evolving with new technology, and I enjoy the idea of continuing to grow my knowledge throughout my career. Being able to turn my passion into a career motivates me to work hard and continue improving my skills every day. My future plans after graduation from Texas State Technical College, is to begin working in the oil field, specifically on gas compressors and related equipment. I am interested in this type of work because it combines mechanical knowledge, problem-solving, and hands-on experience with complex machinery. I know the oil and gas industry requires strong technical skills, discipline, and a hard work ethic, and I am prepared to continue learning and growing in that environment. Working in the oil field will allow me to gain valuable experience, improve my technical abilities, and build financial stability for myself and my family. I want to continue developing my skills and earning certifications that will help me advance in the industry. My long-term goal is to return to my hometown and open my own mechanic shop. I want to create a business that provides honest, reliable automotive repair services to my community. I hope to build a successful business that people can trust and be proud of while supporting my family and giving back to the community where I was raised. While pursuing my goals, I have also faced several personal challenges that have shaped who I am today. One of the biggest difficulties has been supporting my family through serious medical issues. My father underwent a quadruple bypass surgery due to heart problems, and complications from diabetes later resulted in the amputation of one of his toes. Watching him go through those health struggles was extremely difficult for our family emotionally and financially. Currently, my mother is battling breast cancer, which has created additional stress and uncertainty in our lives. Experiencing these hardships has taught me resilience, maturity, and perseverance. There were times when balancing school, work, and family responsibilities felt overwhelming, but those experiences pushed me to become stronger and more determined. Instead of allowing these challenges to discourage me, they motivated me to work harder toward building a stable and successful future for myself and my family. These experiences have also given me a greater appreciation for hard work and the opportunities I have been given. I understand the value of commitment, reliability, and persistence because I have seen firsthand how quickly life can change. Through everything my family has faced, I continued working, learning, and pursuing my goals because I know that success requires sacrifice and determination.

My passion for the automotive industry has grown stronger every year because working on vehicles gives me a sense of excitement and accomplishment that few other things can match. Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by how vehicles work. While some people only admire cars for their appearance or speed, I have always been interested in what happens underneath the hood. Over time, that interest has turned into a true passion. My interest first began at home watching my dad work on our lawn mowers, tractors, and mowing equipment. I remember spending hours in the barn with him, observing while we got the equipment ready for mowing season each year. At first, I mostly handed over tools and asked questions, but over time I started understanding the importance of every repair and adjustment. Back then, I thought I was simply spending time being “Daddy’s helper,” not realizing those special moments were helping shape the passion and career path I have today. This experience sparked my curiosity about how engines and machines operate. I became fascinated by how every part works together, from fuel systems and hydraulics to belts, brakes, and electrical components. Instead of being frustrated by mechanical problems, I became excited by the challenge of solving them. Those early experiences taught me patience, responsibility, and the value of hard work. Over the last four years, my passion for mechanics has grown even stronger through my experience working at Quint’s Quality Service after school, on breaks and during the summer, working in a professional shop environment has given me hands-on experience that cannot be learned in a classroom alone. Every day in the shop brings new opportunities to learn and improve my skills. I have gained experience performing maintenance, diagnosing engine problems, replacing worn components, and assisting with repairs on a variety of vehicles and equipment. This experience has also taught me discipline, teamwork, and the importance of doing every job correctly the first time, safety and reliability always come first in this field. At the same time, my mother is currently battling breast cancer, which has created additional stress and uncertainty in our lives. Experiencing these hardships has taught me resilience, maturity, and perseverance. There were times when balancing school, work, and family responsibilities felt overwhelming, but those experiences pushed me to become stronger and more determined. I learned how important it is to stay focused even during difficult circumstances. Instead of allowing these challenges to discourage me, they motivated me to work harder toward building a stable and successful future for myself and my family. Pursuing a career in the automotive field is more than just a job opportunity for me—it is a chance to build a meaningful future doing something I genuinely enjoy. My work experience, combined with the personal challenges I have overcome, has prepared me to face obstacles with determination and a positive attitude. I am committed to continuing my education, improving my skills, and building a successful career in the automotive industry while making my family proud.

My career objective is to become a Diesel Mechanic and build a career working with heavy equipment, diesel engines. I have always enjoyed working with my hands, solving mechanical problems, and learning how engines and machinery operate. Becoming a Diesel Mechanic will allow me to turn those interests into a lifelong profession where I can continue learning and growing while providing dependable service to others. I plan to pursue the education and training necessary to gain certifications, technical knowledge, and hands-on experience that will prepare me for success in this field. I plan to attend Texas State Technical College to pursue an associate degree in Diesel Mechanics, I want to be part of a career field that is practical, respected, and always in demand. When I graduate, I plan on working for a reputable company where I can gain experience and advance into a leadership or specialized technician position. I also hope to one day open my own repair shop in my hometown where I can serve my community and provide quality services. Although I am highly motivated to achieve these goals, my family is currently facing serious financial and medical challenges that make paying for college difficult. Both of my parents work hard to support our family, but medical expenses and daily living costs have created a significant financial burden. Two years ago, my father underwent quadruple bypass surgery due to severe heart problems. In addition to that, he later suffered complications from diabetes that resulted in the amputation of one of his toes. These health issues have affected both his physical ability and our family’s finances because of ongoing medical treatments, medications, and recovery costs. At the same time, my mother is currently battling breast cancer. Watching her go through treatments and facing the emotional and financial stress that comes with cancer has been extremely difficult for our family. Even though both of my parents continue to work and do everything they can to provide for us, the combination of medical bills, household expenses, and educational costs has made it challenging for me to afford college expenses on my own. Although my family is facing financial and medical hardships, I have and will continue to work hard toward my goals. For the past four years, I have worked at a local mechanic shop, Quint’s Quality Service, after school, during summer breaks, and on holiday breaks. I plan to continue working at Quint’s Quality Service during the day while attending school at night in order to help pay for my college expenses. I understand that achieving my goals will require sacrifice, commitment, and persistence, and I am fully prepared to put in the effort necessary to succeed. Due to my family’s current medical and financial hardships, financial assistance would make a major difference in helping me continue my education and pursue my career goals. I am determined to overcome these challenges and use my education to build a better future for myself and my family.

Choosing a career is an important decision that can shape a person’s future, and for me, becoming a diesel mechanic is something I feel truly passionate about. My interest in this field did not happen overnight. It developed over time through hands-on experience, hard work, and learning from real-world situations. I have worked at Quint’s Quality Services for four years, after school, during breaks, and over the summer, and this experience is what helped me discover my passion for the Diesel Mechanic field. When I first started working at Quint’s Quality Services, I did not know much about Diesel engines or what a mechanic actually did on a daily basis. I mainly helped with basic tasks, observed experienced mechanics, and tried to learn as much as I could. However, I quickly realized that I enjoyed learning how things worked and fixing problems step by step. Over the years, I was given more responsibility. I began assisting with real repairs, learning how to diagnose engine problems, and using tools properly, going on service calls. Each new skill made me more confident and more interested in the work. What I enjoy most about being in this field is that no two days are the same. Every job presents a different challenge, and I get to constantly learn new things. Diesel mechanics require problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and physical effort. I like that the work keeps me active and thinking at the same time. It is not just about fixing machines, it is about understanding them and finding the best way to make them run efficiently and safely. This scholarship would play an important role in helping me achieve my goals by giving me the financial support I need to continue my education and training in the diesel mechanic field. I understand that formal training and certifications are essential for me to advance in this career and become a highly skilled Diesel Mechanic. I have been accepted and will be attending Texas State Technical College in the fall. This scholarship would help reduce that financial burden and allow me to focus more on my studies and hands-on learning rather than worrying about how to pay for everything. In addition, this scholarship would help me invest in the proper tools and equipment that are required in the Diesel Mechanic field.

Diesel engines are large, complex machines, and understanding how all the parts work together takes time and patience. However, I quickly realized that I enjoyed learning how things worked and fixing problems step by step. Over the years, I was given more responsibility. I began assisting with real repairs, learning how to diagnose engine problems, and using tools properly. Each new skill made me more confident and more interested in the work. One of the most satisfying feelings was seeing a broken-down truck or piece of equipment start working again after we fixed it. It gave me a sense of accomplishment and showed me that my work mattered. What I enjoy most about being in this field is that no two days are the same. Every job presents a different challenge, and I get to constantly learn new things. Diesel mechanics require problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and physical effort. In conclusion, I chose the diesel mechanic field because of my hands-on experience at Quint’s Quality Services and the passion I developed over time. What started as a part-time job turned into a career path that I truly enjoy and want to continue pursuing. I am excited to keep learning, improving my skills, and building a future in this field. I have been accepted and plan to attend Texas State Technical College in the Fall to get an associates degree in Diesel Mechanics and I also plan to get my CDL License this summer to help me in my future career. Scott A. Ross Memorial Golf Scholarship
I have been playing golf since I was in Jr. High School, in hopes of preparing me to play on our High School golf team, which I played Varsity all 4 year. I enjoy playing golf every Saturday and Sunday with friends and family, this one of my favorite ways to pass time. Golf has taught me many lessons, but the biggest one is that success does not happen instantly. Improvement takes patience, discipline, and the ability to learn from failure. Every round of golf is different, and no matter how well prepared I am, mistakes will happen. Through golf, I have learned that setbacks are not something to fear or avoid, Instead, they are opportunities to grow stronger, smarter, and more determined. This lesson has shaped the way I approach challenges both on and off the course, and it will continue to guide me throughout my future. One of my favorite parts of playing golf is that it constantly challenges me to improve, both mentally and physically. Golf has taught me patience, discipline, and perseverance because every round is different, and success comes from staying focused even after mistakes. I enjoy the competitive aspect of the game, but I also appreciate the life lessons it provides. Golf has helped shape my character by teaching me integrity, responsibility, and how to remain calm under pressure. Since golf is a sport built on honesty and respect, it has encouraged me to hold myself accountable both on and off the course. One of the greatest challenges I have had to overcome has been supporting my family through serious health struggles while continuing to stay focused on my goals. Although I have not personally faced medical challenges, my family has gone through difficult health struggles that have deeply impacted me. During my freshman year, my father underwent quadruple bypass surgery, which was a frightening and emotional experience for our family. Seeing his strength and determination during recovery taught me the importance of resilience and staying positive during hard times. More recently, my mother has been battling Breast Cancer. Watching her face this challenge with courage and optimism has inspired me every day. Balancing the emotional stress of these situations while keeping up with School, Football, Golf, College class, and a after school job and other daily responsibilities has not always been easy. There were times when it was difficult to stay focused, but these experiences pushed me to become more mature, responsible, and mentally strong. Golf became an outlet for me because it taught me patience and how to stay composed under pressure, even when life outside the course was challenging. These experiences have strengthened my character and given me a greater appreciation for perseverance, family, and support systems. They have also motivated me to approach both golf and life with gratitude and determination. Through these challenges, I have learned that adversity can build strength, and I strive to carry those lessons with me in everything I do.

Growing up, some of my strongest connections to my community and the environment have come through golf, hunting, and fishing. These outdoor activities have taught me lessons that go far beyond recreation. They have helped me build relationships with people around me, develop respect for nature, and understand the importance of responsibility and patience. Whether I am walking a golf course early in the morning, sitting quietly in a deer stand, or casting a line into a lake at sunrise, I feel connected not only to the outdoors but also to the people and traditions that surround these experiences. Golf has been one of the biggest influences in shaping my connection to my community. Unlike many sports, golf brings together people of different ages and backgrounds. I have played rounds with friends, family members, and experienced golfers who were willing to share advice both about the game and about life. Spending several hours on a course with others creates conversations and friendships that might not happen anywhere else. Golf has also taught me discipline, honesty, and sportsmanship. Since players are expected to keep their own score and follow the rules even when no one is watching, the game builds character and accountability. One of biggest lessons is that success does not happen instantly. Improvement takes patience, discipline, and the ability to learn from failure. Through golf, I have learned that setbacks are not something to fear or avoid, Instead, they are opportunities to grow stronger, smarter, and more determined. This lesson has shaped the way I approach challenges both on and off the course, and it will continue to guide me throughout my future. These values have strengthened the way I interact with others in my community and have helped me become more respectful and dependable. One of my greatest joy’s each year is playing in our Communities annual Golf tournament fundraiser for our Carnegie Library, it is not only helping a great cause the Children’s Reading Program, but I get to play with a lot of great golfers from our community and surrounding communities near by making lots of new friends each year. Hunting and fishing have shaped my connection to the environment in a different but equally meaningful way. Both activities require patience, awareness, and appreciation for the natural world. When hunting, I have learned how important conservation is to maintain healthy wildlife populations and preserving habitats for future generations. Hunters and fishermen depend on healthy ecosystems, which is why so many outdoorsmen care deeply about protecting forests, lakes, and wildlife. Through these experiences, I have learned to value nature not just as something to enjoy, but as something to protect. Fishing has especially taught me patience and gratitude. Some of the best memories I have involve long conversations with family and friends while waiting for a bite on the water. Even on days when we caught very little, the experience itself was rewarding because it gave us time together away from distractions and technology. Being outdoors allows people to slow down and appreciate the simple things, and that mindset has had a positive impact on my life. Hunting has provided similar lessons. Sitting quietly in nature has taught me observation, focus, and respect for animals and the environment. These experiences have made me more aware of how connected people are to the land around them. In the future, I hope to continue strengthening these connections by staying involved in outdoor activities and encouraging others to appreciate them as well. I want to introduce younger generations to golf, hunting, and fishing so they can experience the same lessons and values that I have learned. I also hope to support conservation efforts that protect natural spaces and wildlife habitats. Whether through volunteering, participating in local outdoor organizations, or simply teaching others to respect the environment, I want to help preserve these traditions for years to come. Golf, hunting, and fishing have shaped who I am by teaching me responsibility, patience, respect, and community. They have connected me to nature and to the people around me in ways that few other activities could. As I move into the future, I hope to continue building those connections while helping others appreciate the outdoors and the important role it plays in our lives.

Golf has taught me many lessons, but the biggest one is that success does not happen instantly. Improvement takes patience, discipline, and the ability to learn from failure. Every round of golf is different, and no matter how well prepared I am, mistakes will happen. Through golf, I have learned that setbacks are not something to fear or avoid. Instead, they are opportunities to grow stronger, smarter, and more determined. This lesson has shaped the way I approach challenges both on and off the course, and it will continue to guide me throughout my future. In the words of a high School Coach that I admired “ How you do anything is How you do everything” this is so true and I will carry them with me through all I do in life. One of the hardest parts of golf is learning how to recover after a bad shot. Unlike many sports, golf gives players a lot of time to think, which can either help or hurt performance. Early on, I struggled with frustration whenever I made mistakes. If I hit a poor drive or missed an easy putt, I would let my emotions affect the rest of my round. Over time, however, I realized that successful golfers are not perfect golfers. The best players are the ones who stay calm, adjust, and focus on the next shot instead of the last one. Learning to stay mentally strong during difficult moments has been one of the most valuable lessons golf has given me. ' This mindset has helped me outside of golf as well. In school, there have been times when I did not perform as well as I hoped on a test or assignment. Instead of becoming discouraged, I now try to approach those moments the same way I would approach a difficult hole on the course. I analyze what went wrong, practice harder, and focus on improving rather than giving up. Golf has taught me that progress comes from consistency and effort, not perfection. In the future, I plan to use the lessons I have learned through golf in both my education and career. Life will always present obstacles, setbacks, and moments of pressure, just like a challenging round of golf. I know there will be situations where things do not go according to plan, but golf has prepared me to remain patient and focused. Whether I am working toward academic goals, building a career, or facing personal challenges, I will remember that success comes from perseverance and resilience. Most importantly, golf has taught me confidence in myself. The sport has shown me that improvement is possible with dedication and hard work. Even when progress feels slow, every practice session and every challenge contributes to long-term growth. That lesson will stay with me for the rest of my life and continue to influence the person I become, not only in my personal life but in my career. Golf will continue to be a constant part of my life as I get older and I will continue to use the lesson learned.

Throughout my life, I have had many teachers and mentors, but none have influenced me as deeply as my coach, Coach Kevin Reeves. Coach Reeves wasn't just focused on winning games, he cared about shaping character, discipline, and perseverance. From the first day of practice, he made it clear that success isn't about talent alone, its about effort and attitude. His words, " How you do anything is how you do everything", still guide me in everything I take on. Coach Reeves taught me to believe in myself when I didn't think I could push any harder. There were days I thought about quitting, ( knowing my Mom would not let that happen), but coach refused to let me give up, Instead, he helped me see that failure isn't the opposite of success, it is part of it. His guidance extends beyond sports, he taught me to face challenges with confidence, and to lead by example, and support others even when things get tough. Because if him, I learned that leadership comes from humility and consistency, not from shouting orders and chasing recognition. I learned that these lesson, were not only used on the field they would be used every day of my life in one way or the other. These lessons are a big reason why college is so important to me. Attending College represents more than just earning a degree, it is about continuing to grow, learn and become the best version of myself. I want to take the dedication and determination that Coach instilled in me and apply it to my education and future career. College will give me the opportunity to developed my skills, meet people with different perspectives, and prepare for life where I can make a real difference in my career and in my community. In end my Coach showed me that success is built on discipline, respect and purpose. College is my next step to build on that foundation and create a future I can be proud of. The last 4 years I have worked for Quant's Quality Services as a Mechanic Helper & Mechanic in the summer, after school and breaks, here is where I learned to have a passion for what will soon be a lifelong career. I plan to attend Texas State Technical College in the fall and obtain a Associate degree in Diesel Mechanics. This summer I plan do get my CDL License which will be beneficial in my career. Because of lesson Coach Reeves taught me, as I pursue my education I will strive to make a positive impact in the world, my Community and in the field of Diesel Mechanics. After Graduation, I then plan to work in the Oil and Gas field working on compressors, which will help me build my skills and knowledge. My long term goal is to evidently come back to Jefferson and open a local Diesel Mechanic shop and work for my Community and hopefully give back to a Community that has given me so much.
