Growing up listening to my parents discuss their day at work My Father a Sergeant with the Cook County Sheriffs Department and my mother and IT manager with Blue Cross Blue Shield sparked my interest in pursuing a leadership role, someone in charge, responsible, accountable, and respected. My passion and desire to expand my leadership skills is a goal that will help shape who I am and help me throughout my journey with discipline, service, and purpose. During my time at Robert E. Lindblom Math and Science Academy, I’ve worked to demonstrate my ability to lead through the following. JROTC, where I serve as the Battalion S3 Captain, working with my leaders to plan and coordinate training events. Serving our communities with purpose. Achieving the title of Assistant Scout Master and earning the rank of Eagle Scout through Scouts of America, formerly known as Boy Scouts of America, have allowed me to experience so much more that the world has to offer. I have also volunteered with the Chicago Park District, where I started as a student camper before serving as a Junior Camp Counselor during the summers. One of my greatest accomplishments was receiving the rank and title of Jo Kyo Nym (First-Degree Black Belt) under the MuSa Federation Korean Traditional Martial Arts System of Kuk Sool. This role has provided me with the opportunity to become an assistant instructor who oversees the training curriculum for underbelts students. Achieving this accomplishment positioned me to mentor younger martial artists with passion and enthusiasm. These roles have positioned me to lead with focus, exhibit patience, stay committed to the cause, and serve others. Another skill I developed was learning how to play drums. As a toddler, I would find anything to bang on to create my own version of music. Learning how to play drums became a passionate goal. I’m pleased and proud to be Co-Captain of the JROTC's Drumline and a member of the Advanced Band and Advanced Percussion Ensemble. Music has allowed me to enhance my attention to detail, timing, and embrace teamwork, which is essential for any career. In addition, I was granted an opportunity to model for “The Prom Fantasy Experience”. This taught me to be more confident with the man that I am becoming, without hesitation and doubt. These experiences have taught me humility, diligence, dedication, perseverance and commitment. These attributes will help me become the leader that I strive to be and continue to enhance my growth and development. Acquiring my college degree would not only support my academic and leadership goals, but it would also allow me to serve at the highest level. This journey consists of where I’ve been and where I’m going by staying focused and on track to achieve my goals.
