Nursing is the perfect blend of my love for science and my desire to make a real, positive impact on people’s lives. Receiving scholarships would be a life-changing opportunity, alleviating the financial strain of college and allowing me to fully dedicate myself to my studies and clinical training. Suicide. It’s a heavy term, and at some point, I believe it crosses everyone's mind, whether as a brief thought during tough times or something more of an expression. For me, it transformed into a persistent demon I couldn't shake. Between the ages of 14 and 16, I acted on those demon wishes. Growing up in a holy environment provided me with a foundation of faith, but it wasn’t until I hit my lowest point that I truly felt God’s presence in my life. I was raised in a Christian household which meant attending Mass every Sunday, praying before meals, and doing what was expected of me as a good Christian. However, today can recognize, that my faith was lukewarm. I would call myself a Christian, yet it seemed more like an automatic response rather than a conviction rooted in my heart.
I can recognize now that many Christians may face the same problem. My journey with Christ has been anything but perfect—it's been rocky, filled with uncertainties and challenges—but through it all, I’ve felt God’s hand guiding me, especially during my darkest moments. While I was living in England, I encountered overwhelming stress. At 14, adults often dismiss your concerns, viewing them as minor or insignificant. But at that age, everything feels intensified. Issues with self-image, self-loathing, and the burden of expectations can create an opportunity for the enemy to whisper harmful lies into your thoughts. For me, those lies resulted in actions I regret, leaving scars that still serve as reminders when I look in the mirror. Nonetheless, those scars also signify something greater. They remind me of how far I’ve progressed as a not only a person but as a Christian .
When I was at my lowest, I felt the presence of Christ. An indescribable, supernatural comfort that enveloped me like a protective barrier away from those demons I once lost the fight to. It was as though he came down and placed his hand on me, taking away the pain. That moment changed everything for me. From that point onward, my faith journey genuinely started. Of course, like anyone I still encounter hard days and times when life feels burdensome, but I am confident I will never again harm myself as I did in the past. I’ve witnessed the distress it brought upon my family, and I’ve come to understand the pain it caused God.
At that moment, I realized that I needed to place my trust in Him wholeheartedly. Today, I am putting my faith in God to guide me through my mental health journey, to provide for my future, and to assist me in achieving my aspiration of becoming a nurse anesthesiologist, as I can truly depend on him for all my needs. The most crucial lesson from this experience is that God is real. And he is waiting for us. If you invite him into your life, he will change it. He will fill you with a renewed sense of purpose and joy. Although life will still present challenges, you will never be alone to face them.
Thank you for giving me the chance to share my story through this scholarship essay. I'm truly grateful for this opportunity.

Throughout history, women in the nursing profession have been the quiet heroes of humanity, delivering compassion and assistance when it was most crucial. From Florence Nightingale shedding light in the dark corners of war-torn hospitals to Mary Seacole traveling across the globe to tend to wounded soldiers, these extraordinary women have demonstrated that healing goes beyond a job—it is a genuine calling. Their narratives remind us that behind every healing journey lies a compassionate ear, a soothing touch, and a comforting presence for the sick, the needy, and the defenseless.
As I matured, I felt a similar inclination towards caregiving in my own distinct manner. Whether it was providing solace to friends in tough times or volunteering in the varied communities I’ve been privileged to be a part of, I’ve come to understand that the most remarkable power we possess is simply being present for others. To me, nurses are the true heroes of the world. One of the most significant experiences in my life was co-founding the baking club at my high school. While it may not seem directly related to healthcare, establishing a warm, inviting atmosphere where individuals felt safe, recognized, and appreciated left a profound impact on me. Nursing, in my view, is a natural progression of that purpose—offering kindness, care, and a sense of belonging to those who need it most.
Residing on three different continents has enriched my perspective on how access to healthcare influences lives. From the vibrant streets of Accra to the tranquil villages of England and the communities I’ve come to cherish in Florida, I’ve observed that while people’s needs differ, their yearning for care and empathy is universal. However, in Florida and throughout the U.S., I’ve also seen the alarming effects of gun violence—a public health emergency that devastates individuals and communities alike. This issue resonates with me because it encompasses more than just physical harm; it inflicts emotional and psychological wounds that reverberate through families and neighborhoods.
As a prospective nurse, I aspire to be involved in tackling this crisis, not only through patient care but also through advocacy and education. Whether it’s providing trauma treatment for victims, offering support to families, or promoting preventive strategies, I wish to contribute to a healthier, safer society. Gun violence serves as a stark reminder that the responsibilities of nurses often extend beyond hospital environments, reaching into the core of our communities.
Looking ahead, my aspiration is to become a nurse anesthetist or a midwife—fields that elegantly blend precision with compassion and science with empathy. I’ve come to realize that nursing encompasses far more than just physical healing; it’s about fostering trust, providing comfort, and creating environments where patients feel cared for during their most vulnerable times. Whether guiding a mother through childbirth, ensuring a patient’s safety during an operation, or supporting someone impacted by gun violence, I aim for my work to embody the same bravery and kindness that women in nursing have represented for generations.

Quiet Heroes
Throughout the ages, women in the nursing profession have been the unsung champions of humanity, providing empathy and support when it was needed the most. From Florence Nightingale illuminating the shadows of war-ravaged hospitals to Mary Seacole journeying across continents to care for injured soldiers, these remarkable women have demonstrated that healing transcends mere occupation—it is a true vocation. Their narratives serve as a reminder that behind every recovery lies a listening heart, a comforting hand, and a reassuring presence for the ill, the hungry, and the vulnerable.
As I grew up, I felt a similar inclination toward caregiving in my own very unique way. Whether it was providing comfort to friends during difficult moments or volunteering in the various communities I’ve lived in around the globe, I’ve come to understand that the greatest superpower one can possess is simply being there for others. Which makes me truly believe nurses are the superheroes of the world. One of the most impactful experiences in my life was co-creating the baking club at my high school. While it may not seem directly related to healthcare, fostering a warm, inviting environment where individuals felt safe, acknowledged, and appreciated left a vital lesson to me. To me, nursing represents a continuation of that mission—providing kindness, care, and a sense of community to those in greatest need.
Having resided on three separate continents, I’ve observed how access to healthcare profoundly influences lives. From the lively streets of Accra to the serene villages of England, and now the communities I engage with in Florida, I’ve recognized that although people's needs differ, their wanting for care and compassion remains universal. These experiences have reinforced my aspiration to be part of a profession where I can deliver comfort, strength, and healing to others.
As I look ahead to my future, my ambition is to become a nurse anesthesiologist or midwife which are both professions that elegantly intertwine precision with compassion, and science with empathy. I’ve realized that nursing encompasses more than just physical recovery; it involves establishing trust, providing comfort, and creating an environment where patients feel nurtured during their most vulnerable moments. Whether assisting a mother in childbirth or ensuring a patient’s safety during surgery, I aspire for my work to embody the same bravery and warmth that women in nursing have exemplified for generations.
Their stories have influenced my journey, and one day, I hope to carve out my own. I wish to reflect on a life dedicated to caring for others—a narrative of a young girl, inspired by the quiet heroes of the past, who discovered her path to becoming one.

What inspires others about my character is my unyielding authenticity and the fearless way I chase my dreams. In a world that often values fitting in, I’ve chosen to stand out, embracing my quirks and differences with pride. I live my truth openly, showing others that it’s not only okay but powerful to be themselves. This raw genuineness, combined with my compassion for others, creates a space where people feel seen and accepted. My interactions are driven by deep-seated respect and empathy, making others feel valued and understood, which in turn empowers them to embrace their true selves and pursue their passions boldly.
"If the world tries to dim my light, I'll shine even brighter."
This quote encapsulates my essence perfectly. I've always believed in embracing my unique spark, no matter how much the world might try to suppress it. My journey is all about resilience and authenticity, illuminating my path and inspiring others to find and follow their own light, no matter the circumstances.
I've chosen nursing because I am driven by a deep-seated desire to make a tangible, positive difference in people's lives. Nursing isn't just a profession to me; it's a calling that resonates with my core values of compassion, empathy, and service. From a young age, I've been drawn to the idea of helping others, especially during their most vulnerable moments. The thought of being able to provide comfort, support, and expert care to those in need fills me with a profound sense of purpose. Nursing allows me to combine my passion for science with my dedication to human connection, creating a career that is both intellectually challenging and emotionally rewarding.
The chance for ongoing learning and development in a fast-paced industry is another reason I chose nursing. My position as a nurse puts me at the forefront of these breakthroughs in the medical field, which is always changing due to new technologies, therapies, and research. I enjoy the challenge of remaining up to date on the newest medical procedures and knowledge, and I do best in settings where learning is a continuous process. In addition to keeping the field interesting, this ongoing evolution enables me to constantly improve my knowledge and abilities so that I can give my patients the best care possible.
Majoring in nursing, I hope to impact the world by not only providing exceptional care but also being a nurse who goes beyond the call of duty, someone who listens and understands the unique needs of each individual. My goal is to bring a sense of hope and healing to every person I encounter, ensuring they feel seen, heard, and valued. Moreover, I aspire to be a role model for future generations of nurses, demonstrating that with empathy and perseverance, we can make a significant difference in the healthcare system and the lives of countless individuals.
