From the past few years, those volunteering memories still show up very clearly like they just happened yesterday. I joined and enjoy doing many activities back in high schools such as band, theater art, dance, Latin club, and more. These organizations led me to many volunteering opportunities. They are an amazing experience that made me really proud of myself and the people around me.
Covid-19, 2020 was such chaos but volunteering meant very dearly to me. Our missionary from Estridge Mission Center saw that the people in our community were having a very difficult time getting by. Therefore, I joined to deliver food to over 50 houses every day throughout the summer making sure no kids are going hungry. Although I had to drive around in the heat of over 95 degrees because my car air conditioner hasn't been working since forever ago, I can't resist the smile on those people's faces when they saw me showing up in front of their porches. They left such a warm feeling in my heart. Shortly after that ended, school are opening up and I had another opportunity to volunteer and be with little kids. I was able to teach these kids about the bible from August til December when I had to quickly find a job so that I can continue to support myself in college year.
Fast forward to now, I am still planning and love to volunteer for my community here. The people there came from a similar place as me. Estridge has many immigrants and refugees and my family was one of them. A few months ago, I worked on a few designs and did a fundraiser with my family to help my people back in Burma and Thailand who were on the run from Burmese soldiers. They are still fleeing and living in fear of this endless civil war from the Burmese dictator. I wish to also continue doing this for the time being and do whatever I can to help these people in need. It has become my comfort zone to help and reach out to those who are in need.
Overall, I could say volunteering has greatly impacted my life. They are very meaningful to me and I learn new things from them each time. For now, I am planning to graduate and be in a better situation so it will be easier to reach out to others even more. One last important thing I always remember when I am in some situation is, "The truly rich are those who possess a rich heart ".
