My inspiration to become a nurse came, somewhat unexpectedly, from my experience as a teacher. While teaching in a low-income area, I worked with many students whose families lacked access to adequate healthcare. I’ve always had a deep passion for caring for children, and it broke my heart to see them suffering from health issues that could have been treated if only they had the resources. Witnessing this injustice firsthand reshaped my perspective. It made me realize that healthcare should not be a privilege tied to income, but a basic human right. From that moment, I knew I wanted to become a nurse who not only provides medical care but advocates for those whose voices often go unheard. Another major influence on my path was my grandfather, a war veteran who underwent brain surgery. Tragically, due to a surgical error, the left side of his face was left paralyzed. Though he remained strong and continued doing the things he loved, his quality of life was never the same. He sometimes struggled with basic things like swallowing food. Watching a loved one suffer through a preventable complication was incredibly painful and left a lasting impact on me. It made me want to be a nurse who upholds the highest standard of care, someone who ensures that every patient is treated with skill, dignity, and compassion. One of the things I plan to do as a nurse is mission work in countries where people are unable to receive proper healthcare. I feel a strong calling to serve in places where access to medical services is limited. I believe that everyone regardless of where they live or how much they earn deserves the chance to be healthy. One of my long-term goals is to open a private practice that partners with a nonprofit organization. Together, I envision offering affordable or free healthcare services to underserved communities, both locally and abroad. Giving starts with having a heart, and I want to change as many lives as I can. My journey into nursing has been shaped by these deeply personal experiences, but also by my belief in the power of human connection. Helping others is my life’s purpose. I want to be the nurse who brings comfort in uncertain times, who listens to concerns with empathy, and who advocates fiercely when a patient needs a voice. I understand that patients aren’t just seeking treatment, they’re seeking hope, reassurance, and someone who genuinely cares. The idea that I could be that person that helps someone feel seen, heard, and supported is what drives me. I find fulfillment in knowing that my actions, no matter how small, can improve someone’s day or even save their life. Nursing is not just a profession to me, it’s my calling. It’s where my heart and purpose meet. I also look forward to growing within the nursing profession. I’m eager to continue learning, gaining new skills, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals who share the same commitment to compassionate, high-quality care. Whether it’s in a hospital, during a mission trip, or within my future clinic, I want to be a nurse who makes a lasting difference. Reflecting on my journey, I’m filled with gratitude for the experiences that brought me here. From my classroom in a low-income community to the hospital room of my grandfather. These moments opened my eyes, shaped my purpose, and prepared me to walk boldly into the next chapter: a future in nursing where I can dedicate my life to serving others.
