Bio

My name is Wan Cheung Lee. I am a composer and pianist studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, focusing on film and game scoring. I began my musical journey at a young age with classical piano, which gave me a strong foundation in discipline, technique, and expression. However, it was film music that truly inspired me. As a child, the soundtracks from Star Wars and the Harry Potter films captivated me and sparked my imagination. They made stories feel more powerful and emotional, and inspired me to create music that could move people in the same way. As I continued studying music, I started composing and discovered that film and game scoring perfectly combines my passion for storytelling, orchestral writing, and creativity. This led me to pursue music professionally. I chose to study at Berklee College of Music because of its strong industry connections and collaborative environment. Here, I am developing my skills in film and game scoring while working with filmmakers, developers, and other artists on real-world projects.

My name is Wan Cheung Lee, and I am a composer and pianist currently studying at Berklee College of Music in Boston, where I focus on film and game scoring. My musical journey began at a young age through classical piano training, which provided me with a strong technical and expressive foundation. Through years of practice, I developed discipline, attention to detail, and an appreciation for how music can communicate emotion beyond words. While classical music shaped my skills, it was film music that truly inspired my artistic direction. Growing up, I was deeply moved by the soundtracks of films such as Star Wars and Harry Potter. These scores opened my eyes to the power of music in storytelling—the ability to shape narrative, build worlds, and connect audiences to characters on a profound emotional level. From that point on, I knew I wanted to become a composer who contributes to visual media. At Berklee, I have been actively developing my craft in both composition and production. My studies focus not only on writing music, but also on understanding how music functions within interactive and cinematic contexts. I have begun collaborating on small creative projects and participating in local events such as the Boston Underground Film Festival, where I gain hands-on experience working with filmmakers and other artists. These opportunities have strengthened my ability to communicate, adapt to creative visions, and deliver music that enhances a larger project. In addition to composition, I am increasingly interested in audio implementation for games. I recognize that the modern game industry values composers who understand how music integrates within interactive systems. As a result, I am learning about tools and middleware that allow music to respond dynamically to gameplay. This technical knowledge complements my creative skills and prepares me to contribute more effectively in collaborative development environments. After completing my degree, I aim to work as a composer for film and video games, particularly in large-scale productions. My long-term goal is to contribute to projects that leave a lasting emotional impact on audiences, much like the music that inspired me in my childhood. I am especially interested in projects that explore complex themes, as I believe music plays a crucial role in expressing ideas that are difficult to articulate through dialogue alone. Beyond my professional aspirations, I am motivated by a broader curiosity about music’s relationship with human experience. I am fascinated by questions of identity, perception, and consciousness, and I hope to explore these themes through my compositions. Whether in film or interactive media, I want my work to resonate not only as background music, but as an integral part of storytelling. Receiving this scholarship would allow me to continue focusing on my artistic and professional development while expanding my opportunities for collaboration and learning. I am committed to growing as both a composer and a creative collaborator, and I look forward to contributing meaningful work to the future of film and game music.
