I have chosen to pursue a field of study in biology on a pre-medical track because I have always been passionate about healthcare and helping others. Over time, my interest in science developed into a deeper passion for women’s health and advocacy, which is why I hope to eventually become an OB/GYN. I want to build a career where I can combine medical knowledge with compassion to support women through both physical and mental health challenges. I am especially interested in helping patients who struggle with issues such as hormonal disorders, irregular periods, PCOS, body image concerns, and eating disorders. I believe healthcare should be a space where patients feel listened to, respected, and educated about their bodies, and I hope to create that type of environment in my future career. My short-term goals are to succeed academically in college, gain clinical and volunteer experience, and continue learning more about healthcare through shadowing opportunities and hands-on experiences. I want to challenge myself academically while also developing the communication and leadership skills necessary to become a strong physician. Another important short-term goal of mine is to continue advocating for mental health awareness and positive body image, especially among young women. Growing up in gymnastics exposed me to the pressures many girls face regarding appearance and weight, and seeing the effects of unhealthy expectations motivated me to pursue a career where I can help others feel supported instead of judged. My long-term goal is to attend medical school, become an OB/GYN, and use my career to make healthcare more compassionate and accessible for women. I hope to advocate for patients who may feel unheard or dismissed, while also educating women about their health in a way that empowers them to feel confident and informed. Beyond medicine itself, I want to contribute to creating more open conversations surrounding women’s health and mental health so that fewer people feel ashamed to seek help or ask questions. Being an underrepresented minority in this field has strengthened my motivation to succeed and make a difference. Representation in healthcare matters because patients often feel more comfortable when they see providers who understand different backgrounds, experiences, and cultures. As someone pursuing a path where minorities are still underrepresented, I hope to inspire others to believe they belong in STEM and medicine as well. I also believe my experiences and perspective will allow me to connect with patients on a more personal level and advocate for more inclusive and understanding healthcare. This scholarship would help me financially by reducing some of the stress that comes with paying for college and preparing for medical school in the future. Pursuing a career in medicine requires many years of education, and financial support would allow me to focus more on my academics, volunteer work, and professional development opportunities rather than worrying as heavily about costs. Receiving this scholarship would bring me one step closer to achieving my goals and making a positive impact through my future career.

One of the biggest ways I hope to make my community and the world a better place after college is through a career in medicine, specifically as an OB/GYN focused on women’s health advocacy. I want to help create a healthcare environment where women feel comfortable, respected, and genuinely listened to. Too often, women’s health concerns are dismissed, minimized, or seen as “normal” when they can seriously affect someone’s physical and mental well-being. I want to be the kind of doctor who not only treats medical conditions, but also supports patients emotionally and helps them feel informed and confident about their health. A major reason I feel passionate about this comes from experiences I witnessed growing up in gymnastics. Being in that environment showed me firsthand how much pressure young girls can face regarding body image and appearance. There were constant expectations about looking or weighing a certain way, and I saw how harmful that mindset could become. I watched girls struggle with unhealthy relationships with food, extreme dieting, and eating disorders such as anorexia. Those experiences made me realize how closely mental and physical health are connected, especially for young women. In the future, I hope to advocate for better conversations around body image, self-esteem, eating disorders, hormonal health, and conditions such as PCOS or irregular periods so that patients feel supported instead of ashamed or ignored. I also hope to make a difference simply by being someone people can trust and feel comfortable around. I believe small acts of compassion can have a huge impact on someone’s life. Whether it is taking extra time to listen to a patient, educating someone about their health, or helping them feel less alone during a difficult experience, I want to use my career to positively affect others every day. Medicine is not only about science and treatment; it is also about empathy, communication, and advocacy. Currently, I try to make a positive impact by supporting the people around me in both academics and everyday life. I enjoy helping classmates when they are struggling in school, encouraging friends when they are stressed, and being someone others can rely on. I have learned that making a difference does not always require huge actions. Sometimes simply listening, showing kindness, or helping someone feel understood can matter more than people realize. These are values I plan to continue carrying with me throughout college and into my future career. After college, I hope to combine my passion for healthcare, advocacy, and compassion to create meaningful change in my community. I want to help women feel empowered in their health journeys while also promoting awareness about mental health and self-confidence. My goal is to leave people feeling healthier, heard, and supported, both physically and emotionally.

I have always been drawn to STEM (science in general) because of the way it connects directly to people’s lives and well-being. While I enjoy learning about biology and health, what truly motivates me is the opportunity to use that knowledge to help others feel healthier, more confident, and supported. Over time, this passion has led me toward pursuing a career in medicine, specifically in obstetrics and gynecology (OB/GYN). I want to combine my interest in science with my desire to advocate for women’s health, both physically and mentally. My planned field of study is biology on a pre-medical track, with the goal of attending medical school in the future. I am especially interested in women’s health because I believe many important issues are often overlooked, misunderstood, or not talked about enough. I want to become an OB/GYN who helps patients feel heard and educated about their bodies rather than embarrassed or dismissed. Women experience many health concerns that can deeply affect both physical and mental health, including irregular or missing periods, hormonal imbalances, issues with pregnancy, such as infertility, and conditions such as PCOS. These issues can affect confidence, emotions, and overall quality of life, yet many people struggle to access adequate support or answers. I am also passionate about mental health advocacy related to body image and self-esteem. Growing up in gymnastics allowed me to see firsthand how eating disorders such as anorexia can affect young girls physically and mentally. There were often pressures from our coaches and the environment around us to look or weigh a certain way to succeed, which can have a lasting impact on confidence and overall health. Seeing these experiences at a young age made me more aware of how closely mental health and physical health are connected. Social pressures and unrealistic beauty standards can lead many young women to struggle with fat shaming, unhealthy dieting, or starving themselves to fit certain expectations. I think it is important for healthcare professionals to address not only physical symptoms, but also the emotional and mental effects that come with them. I want to help create an environment where patients feel safe discussing sensitive topics without fear of judgment. Being able to educate and support women during vulnerable moments is one of the main reasons I feel so strongly connected to this field. What excites me most about pursuing STEM is the ability to use science to improve lives in meaningful ways. Medicine is not only about diagnosing illnesses, it is also about listening, understanding, and advocating for patients. I hope to become a physician who combines strong medical knowledge with compassion and empathy. In the future, I want to use my education to support women through every stage of their health journey while encouraging confidence, awareness, and self-advocacy. Pursuing this path would allow me to make a lasting difference in the lives of others while doing work that I genuinely care about.
