    She Rose in Health Equity
Advancing health equity is a deeply personal mission, shaped by my experiences as a Black woman, my undergraduate studies in Public Health Science, and my professional journey. Black women face disproportionately high pregnancy mortality rates and are often diagnosed with more advanced stages of breast cancer compared to other groups. These inequities are not only a matter of statistics but a reflection of systemic barriers that I have seen firsthand through volunteering in hospitals and working in public health spaces. My undergraduate education laid a strong foundation in understanding health disparities and the social determinants of health. I learned that inequities in healthcare access and outcomes are deeply rooted in systemic failings. While my work in hospitals and public health organizations allowed me to assist underserved communities directly, I soon realized that addressing these challenges required leadership at the highest levels. I witnessed how resource allocation, policy decisions, and organizational priorities dictated the quality of care patients received. This realization inspired me to pursue an MBA, equipping me with the strategic and leadership skills necessary to address health inequities from the top. As a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) advisor and student representative in my master’s program, I’ve championed mental health awareness and inclusive practices. These roles have strengthened my ability to advocate for marginalized communities in professional spaces. However, I recognize that achieving systemic change requires more than advocacy—it requires business acumen, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of healthcare management, all of which I aim to develop through my MBA. This scholarship will enable me to deepen my knowledge of healthcare systems, operations, and policy, equipping me to create impactful solutions for women of color. With my MBA, I plan to work in healthcare consulting or strategy, addressing disparities by advising organizations on culturally competent care models, equitable resource distribution, and policies that prioritize the needs of underserved populations. My long-term vision is to lead initiatives that reduce maternal mortality rates, promote early detection of diseases like breast cancer, and improve access to preventive care for women of color. Through my unique combination of public health expertise, professional experience, and MBA training, I am committed to driving meaningful change. This scholarship will empower me to bridge the gap between healthcare systems and the communities they serve, creating equitable outcomes for all.
