Bio

I am currently attending Cal Poly Pomona with a major in Animal Science Pre-Vet. I am heavily involved at my church in Orange County in hopes of spreading the gospel to more young adults my age. I help take part in Sunday church service with the Tech team. I am volunteering an my local Animal Shelter in the city of Corona in hopes to find more homes for some furry friends. I am eager to continue to keep on learning and growing for my future. After achieving my bachelor’s degree I would like to go to vet school and pursue a career as a veterinarian.

Ever since I was young I have always had a love for animals and my love for them has influenced my decision to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. With canines I see the unconditional love they provide to people. In my own dogs I see the constant joy, playfulness and love they have everyday. My aim is to make a positive impact on the lives of animals and their owners. My pets are apart of our family and they fill my life with joy. I hope to try to be the voice that animals don’t have and help them for the better. I am currently in school studying to become a vet with my major being Animal Science Pre-Vet at Cal Poly Pomona. Since being at this school I have worked with swine, sheep and cattle. I have gained much more knowledge having hands on experience and I have continued to enjoy learning every aspect no matter the difficulty. I began volunteering at an animal shelter over a year ago. This has showed me that compassionate care can make a difference. Since then it has solidified my commitment to become a veterinarian while helping the lives of animals. I enjoy making a positive impact on both the lives of animals and the owners. Seeing the transformation of the animals behavior when they first arrive to the shelter versus when they get adopted truly fills my heart with joy. Knowing I play a part in this role brings me great satisfaction. One of my most memorable experiences was showing a small dog to a family with 3 little girls with their mother. One of the girls was scared at first but by the end of the meet and greet they all loved the sweet dog. They adopted the dog the next day. I enjoy working at an animal shelter because I can exercise my passion for animal welfare and make a difference in their lives. I understand that becoming a veterinarian is much more than treating animals but it also requires making difficult decisions. Much knowledge is required from veterinarians but empathy is also needed in making tough choices. In the long run I hope to run my own practice and continue to learn about taking the best care for animals. In addition I would love to give back and help run an animal shelter. If money was no option I would build more senior animal shelters. Many senior pets do not have as good odds of getting adopted compared to puppies. They are in need of a home just as much as any other loving animal. I am committed to this path for my future and I am eager to begin my career while making a difference.

I am currently in school to earn my bachelors degree in Animal Science. I have a big heart for the love of animals and hope to become a veterinarian one day. I currently volunteer at my local Animal Shelter in my spare time. I am responsible for taking the dogs out and letting them play out in the yard. I also show them to the public for anyone who is interested in adopting them. It has been about a year now since I have been volunteering and it is a very fulfilling job. I know I am making a difference in those animals lives and hopefully in those families as well. Being there I have adopted a turtle and my grandmother has adopted an elderly dog which she has come to love very much. I have been able to understand the behavior of dogs and see their reactions to people and other dogs. As fulfilling as as this job can be, it is not always easy. I often see surrendered dogs and elderly dogs that are surrendered which can be difficult to witness. I can tell some of those dogs came from bad or neglectful homes. I can often see the distress and sadness of some of their eyes which can be emotionally tiring on myself as well. Seeing the kennel life in the dogs is a tough sight to view every week but I push through it. I try my best to be patient with those dogs and try to be a friendly face to them. I believe this volunteer job has put me in a path to working towards my dream of being a veterinarian. This job has become a passion of mine because I am able to say I am making a difference in my community. I love going in to the shelter in my spare time to able to play with some pups and hopefully provide one of them with a home. Currently the shelter is overflowed with dogs and many of them need homes at the moments. All the people at the shelter are doing everything they can to provide a home to them. There are not many volunteers my age and I am hopeful to see more my age or younger in the future. As fun as this job can be it can also be difficult at times but I know in the end it is worth it for those dogs to get a home.

From as young as 3 years old I have grown up with dogs in my home. At the moment we are raising 2 dogs and 2 tortoises. My household treats our pets as family and as one of our own. I am 23 years old and remember the exact day I got my childhood dog when I was 6. We drove to Mexico that day and on the way back my grandma saw this tiny little white puppy and decided to buy him for my sister and I. My dad was so surprised when we got home with a surprise puppy! We named that surprise puppy, Scruffy. At the time we did not know what we were getting ourselves into. Later we learned he has parvovirus and nearly died from it. I remember laying my hands on this little puppy and praying for him to get better. Within a few weeks he gained his strength and survived. Growing up Scruffy was often in and out of the vet from being sick but he always came back better and ready to play. As I got older my grandma adopted a female dog of her own. My dog and her dog grew to love each other, and I mean LOVE each other. They had puppies! Eventually those puppies got relocated to loving families. Years later we adopted another puppy that a friend found off the street. This puppy was named Bear because he looked like a baby bear cub when we got him. He was one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs we have ever owned but he lived a short life of 3 years due to being diagnosed with lymphosarcoma. And we recently got another dog named Major that happens to act a lot like Bear. Scruffy recently passed away a few months ago. Many people will say their dog was their “soul dog”, and for me he was truly my soul mate in a dog. He slept with me every night and getting used to being without him was a new normal I was not ready to face. He passed away at 16 years due to old age. He lived a great life and was with me through so many milestones in my life. Scruffy was with me when I started high school, college then met my first boyfriend and those memories will always be with me. I am grateful for the years I was able to spend with my dog and every night he was with me. The unconditional love of a dog can never be replaced or forgotten in my eyes so Scruffy will always hold a special place in my heart.

It is easy to say “I love animals” because animals are truly the best. It is beautiful how animals have the ability to love humans so quickly. Many people love animals but putting it into action is what I am striving to accomplish. Ever since I was young, I have always deeply cared for animals and every small creature I encountered. Even today, I am often careful to not step on that little snail, not to crush that ladybug or safely put back that spider outside that I found in my house. From as young as 3 years old I have always grown up with dogs in my home. At the moment we are raising 2 dogs and 2 tortoises. My household treats our pets as family and as one of our own. In the past year I have started my Animal Science journey at Cal Poly Pomona as current Junior and nearly every day I am doing hands on learning about many species of animals. From cattle to mice to horses is what I interact with on campus. I am ecstatic to have gotten into the Animal Science program at CPP and I am still so grateful. In the past year I have also lost my childhood dog who passed away from old age. He was the best dog a girl could ask for. In the future I am looking forward to being a voice to the animals that do not have one. I am currently volunteering my time at the Corona Animal Shelter. I have been able to read the canines emotions more efficiently and seeing their eyes often breaks my heart to think about where they could have come from. It is most often bittersweet to see a dog get adopted to see another dog be in a kennel from months. I know the animal industry is not for the weak, but it is also for the people to care about the patient and I aspire to be one of those veterinarians. When I was in high school, I had a difficult time deciding what I wanted to accomplish in my life. I really evaluated what career path would make me the happiest. Now thinking about becoming a veterinarian, I can say that there is no other field I would want to pursue than this one. I know it is going to take work and dedication but thinking about seeing myself as a licensed vet truly bring tears to my eyes. Learning about animals everyday gives me so much joy and with that I cannot wait to go to vet school after. Feeling he unconditional love my dogs give me and my family encourages me to give animals a better life.

We have the freedom to do what we want and what I choose to watch and read is important in shaping the person that I am becoming. “For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”” – Galatians 5: 13-14. I read my Bible every day before I go to sleep and doing so has helped me to become a stronger follower of Christ. Reading the Bible allows me to see the miracles Jesus has done and what miracles He can do for my future. The Bible teaches me how to live my life for the best. When I am not reading my Bible I enjoy watching different types of documentaries. I believe in the importance of education and with that documentaries are very informative. I watch a range of documentaries from ancient history to true crime to behind the science. Watching documentaries fills my mind with being informed. My goals in life are significantly shaped through how I spend my time and by reading the Bible it has taught me how to become disciplined and do what is right. At this time I am volunteering at my local animal shelter in Corona, California. I want to serve my community and help the animals that cannot help themselves. I believe I am making a positive impact in my community and hopefully I can encourage others to do so. I am able to work with people that are interested in adopting stray animals that greatly need a loving home. I am volunteering to get my foot in the door to work more with animals. I am determined to become a veterinarian and own an animal clinic in the future. I also serve at my church, Spirit and Truth Worship Center, in Orange County, California. I help to take part in leading weekly bible studies which we call “life groups”. I am also in charge of serving among young adults from ages 18 to 30 by planning different monthly activities from worship nights to coffee shop hangouts. On Sundays, I am often helping running slides for the singers and members of the church. My goals are to make more impacts in my community in the future and hopefully encourage more young adults to do the same.

As a young child I have always loved animals and caring for them. Growing up I was not very sure of what I wanted to do but I always knew I wanted to do something that would make a difference in people’s lives. By helping animals, in a way I am helping people. I am helping peoples’ beloved animals. Since I was about 6 years old my favorite animal has always been a pig. To many people that may be disgusting but at a young age I found them to see the cutest animal alive. Remembering my fascination and love for pigs reminds me that all animals are deserving of love and compassion. Animals are a part of the family and in my family our dogs are a part of our family. We love our three dogs so much that we know they each hold a special place in our hearts. Our dogs are very much spoiled. I currently have an elderly dog names Scruffy that is 16 years young. Scruffy is in great shape for his age but when he was younger he nearly died as a puppy from parvo. If the veterinarian did not give him the medicine he needed, he may not be here today. I will forever be grateful the work veterinarians do. I want to help animals for the better and be the voice for animals that do not have one. Yes, animals cannot verbally talk to us! – but when you go to your local veterinarian you can see the care and love they have for your own furry friend. You can see how much a veterinarian cares for animals and wants the best for their well-being. This is why I want to study veterinary medicine. In the past, I have been to a veterinarian that takes advantage of people’s money and emotions. I have been a witness to this. Going through those emotions makes me more eager to tell people the truth and only help the animals for the better. I am hopeful that I can be the trusting veterinarian that any animal lover would go to. I want to change the way some people view veterinarians and be a positive representation. I know I have the passion and excitement for this career path but I also have the determination. In the future I see myself owning my own veterinary clinic and performing surgeries for animals that need it. One day you may see a veterinary clinic with MY name on it! So be on the lookout.

My parents always taught me to give back to my community at a young age. When I was nearly 9 years old my parents and my family drove to Mexico to an orphanage to help other children. I remember handing packs of Oreos to children that were nearly my own age that had the biggest smile on their faces. Later on, my parents told me it was some of their first times having an Oreo and to me it was just an Oreo but to those children that was a piece of happiness they needed. It is truly something I will never forget and I am so grateful that my parents taught me the importance of giving back. I feel inspired to help my community to strive for change and help those that need it the most. I am currently involved at my church, Spirit and Truth Worship Center, in Orange County. I am part of the young adult staff team that teaches young adults from the ages of 18 to 30 about the gospel. I am currently leading a life group every Wednesday engaging in conversation about Jesus Christ. I also help to plan other events (that are every Third Thursday of each month, which we call "Third Thursdays") for this age group so we can stay more connected as a church and a community. I help run a social media account to reach others about the events at my church. I also volunteer on Sundays to help with the technology aspect by putting up slides in the media booth. I enjoy helping at my church and I know I am making a change to be able to teach others and also in a way teach myself how I can continue to work in the favor of God as much as I can. Recently, I applied to work my a local animal shelter in Corona, CA. Nearly a few weeks ago I received a tour to work at this animal shelter. I fully enjoyed the tour and am waiting to start as soon as I can to help the animals in any way I possibly can. More to come about helping those sweet animals! To some people this may not sound like much but I know if I can make a difference in one person's life then it was worth it to be there. Whether it is helping a person or an animal I want to continue making a difference in more ways than just one. Knowing that someone is changed for the better truly inspires me to keep helping my community.
