I am a student at the University of Central Florida seeking a Bachelors degree in social work with a minor in nonprofit management.
I intend to graduate with my Bachelor’s next semester, after which I will immediately begin my Masters of social work program.
My ultimate goal is to work with either the homeless or incarcerated in some capacity to help those who too often go overlooked in our society. They are among some of the most heavily judged, criticized, and ignored populations; which is where my passion to help them stems from.
Too often they are blamed for their circumstances, and rather than understand how they ended up in their situation, people make assumptions and do nothing to assist in solving the problem.
Homelessness and mass incarceration are two of the biggest societal issues we face today, yet many are quick to look away due to the potential discomfort and/or difficulty that can come with assisting those who are struggling as a result.
This desire is why I am a great candidate; as this money will not only help me in the present, but will ultimately benefit those I intend to help in the future by helping me to achieve my goals.

My plan is to pursue a career in social work. I am currently a BSW student at the University of Central Florida, also working towards a minor in nonprofit management. I plan to graduate next semester and begin my MSW program in the summer.
I am passionate about my future career in social work because I want to help make a meaningful impact on the lives of others, especially those those who are overlooked and underserved in our communities, such as the homeless. Far too often, people go ignored and suffer due to the many systemic barriers we have in our country which makes it difficult for them to thrive. Pursuing a degree in social work provides me with a way to help these individuals through supporting them, providing them with resources, and advocating for their needs.
This passion stems for my interest in politics and social justice. I often spend much of my free time reading books or watching documentaries related to these topics. Prior to entering college, I wasn't sure how I would be able to turn this passion into a career - however, once I learned about social work, I knew that it was what I wanted to do.
To accomplish the goals I have set for myself and am aspiring to achieve, many sacrifices have had to made, but my most notably sacrifice has been my time. Being a full-time college student while working simultaneously requires any student to be efficient at managing their time, however, my plan was and still is to make sure that I can get the most out of my college experience for the betterment of my career.
Currently, I am a part of leadership for my Bachelors of Social Work Student Association. I made the decision to become involved with this group to learn more about social work and to begin networking with more professors and guest speakers at my school. Additionally, I have joined other groups on campus, such as an environmental organization and a women's group, to learn more about the topics I am passionate about and become more involved with other students. Additionally, I decided to pursue a minor in nonprofit management alongside my degree in social work so that I can develop my understanding how the organizations I will likely be working for are run. I also plan to become a CNP (Certified Nonprofit Professional), as it will further allow me to have access to more networking opportunities in the future. Outside of school, I make an effort to volunteer at least once a month with organizations such as The Sharing Center, Second Harvest, or the Ronald McDonald House. I have also attended webinars, such as the one I attended last week on solution focused brief therapy, to deepen my knowledge of the subjects I am currently learning about in my courses. Furthermore, next semester I plan to start my internship at No Limit Mental Health Counseling and Education. There, I plan to apply the skills I have learned thus far and build my confidence for working with clients in the future.
All of these things have required much of my time, effort, and attention, however, I feel that everything I have done has been in the best interest of my current and future personal and education goals. Ultimately, my degree in social work provides me with a path to pursue my passion of social justice, and everything I have done and will continue to do is to ensure that this path leads me and those I plan to help to success.
