Ever since I was a little girl I always loved playing dress up with hair and makeup, having pretend tea parties and dreaming of being a princess. When I was three years old my mother put my in dance, which led to having a recital at the end of every year allowing me to put on a costume, have my hair and makeup done, and get on stage to put on a show for the audience. Well lo and behold the cosmetology industry is not as far from that world as you may think.
In fact, the cosmetology industry has so many outlets and opportunities, but I think what excites me the most is getting to make people feel confident, boost their self esteem and just all around feel good
about themselves.
I’ve been a professional ballet dancer for the last nine years and just recently decided to switch career paths, but in a way I feel a similarity between both cosmetology and ballet. I am excited to be able to use my creativity to give people the makeover of their dreams whether it be their makeup, hair color, or hair style. At the end of the day I’m excited to put on a show, and have my customer leave my
chair feeling more amazing and beautiful then when they first walked in. I’m looking forward to studying the art of coloring, cutting, and styling because my goal is to be a colorist and stylist. I also want to be involved in the bridal scene when it comes to hair and makeup to ensure that brides look and feel their most beautiful on their wedding day. A few other aspects I’m thrilled to learn about is the art of lashes and extensions because as a performer I know how amazing you can feel with a set
of lashes. A beautiful set of lashes and luscious long locks can make you feel like you can conquer any day!
In all honesty the life of a ballet dancer is really hard and I’ve had to work three to four jobs over the last nine years to be able to live that dream. Although I feel extremely grateful and blessed to have lived out my first dream career, I know that the cosmetology industry will one day allow me to earn a living wage with a singular job, make my own schedule, and possibly open my own business one day!
This line of work I believe will allow me to be creative, build the life I’ve always wanted with a dream career, and make a positive impact on my clients’ self esteem which in return will make for a very rewarding career.
