To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Veronica Huerta, I’m a single mom of four beautiful children and currently raising my granddaughter. I currently work for two local hospitals and have been there for over 15 years. My goal is to become a Registered Nurse and help others during difficult times. I decided I wanted to get a better education because I come from a migrant family who has always worked out in the cold or in extreme heat to provide for us. I want to give my children a better feature and not be struggling financially all the time. I have volunteered at Prosser Memorial Health during events and helped the foundation. I have been nominated by my coworkers for working hard and being compassionate.
I have struggled so hard to get to where I am now. I recently got accepted into the Yakima Valley Community College Nursing Program. I’ve been working on my prerequisites since 2018 and was finally able to complete them. I’ve had varied difficult times. I’ve worked full-time while attending college and been able to support my family and balance everything out, there were times I wanted to give up, but my children are what keeps me going, they push me to keep going when I’ve felt I couldn’t anymore. It’s satisfying when you accomplish your goals. I think this scholarship will reduce any financial barriers and will help me and my family tremendously.
I have worked in two local hospitals as a Certified Nursing Assistant and an Ob Technician, for the last eleven years and have been so blessed. I believe that when you work in the medical field, you give so much and it's rewarding to see how many hearts you touch and how many will remember how you make them feel. I strongly believe that every nurse has a special place in their heart for the most vulnerable patients. There are many reasons why I would like to become a registered nurse. I want to be able to help others. Giving back to my community is something I would love to do. I want to be able to give people support when going through difficult times. I think becoming a nurse would somehow keep me connected with my community.
This scholarship will help me financially, professionally and academically. I am a first-generation student and this will help me pursue my dreams because it will cover college financial issues that may hold me back from reaching my career. Being less stressed about worrying about college fees will allow me to focus more of my attention in class to earn the credits, and not worry about how I’m going to pay for the class. After I become an RN I hope to persue my BSN I am passionate about becoming a nurse, I will strive for the best and never give up.
Sincerely,
Veronica Huerta Monjes
