Bio

I am a computer-science senior at the University of Michigan. In my sophomore year, I decided to take a programming class, in which I especially liked the focus on logical and useful problem-solving skills to which I had not been exposed. I had been uncertain of which math-related major to choose, but my great interest and fit in computer science made my choice clear. I look forward to continuing to explore more specializations in upper-level electives this semester in addition to my previous ones of software engineering and artificial intelligence. I love how software engineering has so many significant applications, such as in healthcare, which make me want to become a software engineer. My upcoming courses, such as my capstone, will help me further grow my skills to succeed as a software engineer once I graduate in May of 2024. In addition to my academics, I work as a clerk for Michigan Language Assessment after having worked in various work-study positions. In my free time, most importantly, I love spending time with my mom, who inspired me after she graduated from college after having raised six kids (of whom I am the youngest). I am also inspired by my Latvian grandparents who sought refuge in the U.S. and love the Latvian and Polish cultures in my family. Also, I enjoy learning new skills such as crocheting and knitting. I look forward to returning to dance, specifically ballet, sometime soon. Here is my personal website: https://vanessastudans.w3spaces.com/.
