Bio

I plan to work in the financial service industry. I intend to major in Finance at Baylor University because I am fascinated with asset accumulation. Over numerous summers, I recognized my vocational path while working in my mother's financial office, helping to develop a retirement planning process. I feel my generation lacks education or understanding of fiscal responsibility. As I grow with my education and gain experience in my mother's office, I will develop a program or advance my relationship skills to serve my generation's people further to accumulate assets and plan for their future.

Advancement of Minorities in Finance Scholarship
Growing up in a household where financial literacy was not just a topic of discussion but a way of life, I gained a profound understanding of the importance of prudent financial management. My mother, a seasoned financial professional, instilled in me the value of protecting assets and planning for the future from an early age. As I absorbed these lessons, I began to see the world through a financial lens, recognizing the impact that strategic financial decisions could have on one's life trajectory. However, the stability and security of our family's financial situation were abruptly challenged when my parents divorced. Overnight, our once-predictable financial environment became uncertain, and we found ourselves navigating uncharted waters. Despite the challenges we faced, my family's resilience never wavered. With prayer as our guiding force and each other for support, we weathered the storm and emerged stronger than ever. This experience profoundly shaped my outlook on life and ignited a passion within me to pursue a career in finance, specifically as a financial advisor. Witnessing firsthand the transformative power of financial knowledge and planning during times of adversity, I became determined to help others navigate similar challenges and achieve financial stability. One area where I am particularly focused is addressing the student debt crisis. Having personally experienced the burden of student loans, I am acutely aware of the challenges that many young people face in pursuing higher education. My goal as a financial advisor is to assist my peers in finding resources, such as scholarships and grants, to finance their education and minimize the need for student loans. Ending the student debt crisis is a monumental task, but I firmly believe that it is achievable through targeted efforts to increase financial literacy and provide access to resources. By empowering students with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions about their finances, we can reduce the burden of student debt and make higher education more accessible to all. In pursuit of this goal, I plan to offer personalized financial consultations, host workshops on financial literacy, and actively seek out scholarship opportunities for students. Through these efforts, I hope to make a meaningful difference in the lives of my peers and help them realize their dreams of attending their dream universities without the crushing weight of student debt holding them back. Beyond addressing the student debt crisis, my broader mission as a financial advisor is to empower individuals to take control of their financial futures. Whether it's creating a budget, investing for retirement, or planning for major life events, I am committed to providing guidance and support every step of the way. In conclusion, my personal experiences have fueled my passion for finance and inspired me to pursue a career as a financial advisor. By focusing on addressing the student debt crisis and empowering individuals to achieve financial stability, I hope to make a positive impact on my community and contribute to a brighter future for all.
    AHS Scholarship
My dream is to teach financial literacy to the children of tomorrow. Next fall, I plan to transfer to Baylor University, where I will major in Finance and hope to further my education at Baylor Law School. I plan to work in the financial service and estate planning industry. Over numerous summers, I recognized my vocational path while working in my mother's financial office, helping to develop a retirement planning process. I feel my generation lacks education or understanding of fiscal responsibility. I have learned to watch market trends and how circumstances throughout the world can impact our economy and the value of today's dollar. I have also seen the impact of a rumor and how it influences the market trend. Nothing excites me more than the Consumer Price Index or Job Data being released. I was fortunate to begin my journey in higher education this past year. I learned to adjust quickly to the college atmosphere and was determined to develop close relationships with my professors. However, my university allowed me to participate in Junior Achievement: More than Money learning program as a volunteer. I resonated with Junior Achievement because of its purpose. The Junior Achievement More than Money program is designed to introduce elementary students to financial literacy and entrepreneurship. I was blessed to teach thirty 5th-grade students at St. Patrick's elementary school in this program. During the class sessions, students learned a practical approach to starting a business and making intelligent decisions about managing money. Students were able to determine how money plays a significant role in life. We would discuss basic money terms, such as interest, stocks, savings, and loans. The students were heavily engaged and enjoyed the game activities. Every class session, I was greeted with the happiest smiles and eagerness to learn financial literacy. My heart melted when it was my last class session, and the students created handmade thank you cards. It was a remarkable experience, and I was fortunate to get to know and cultivate relationships with every student. This program reminds me of my purpose, which is to be able to share financial literacy with the rising generations. The students inspired me to share financial lessons with my community and, most importantly, to serve Christ in everything I do. As I grow with my education and gain experience in my mother's office, I will develop a program or advance my relationship skills to further serve the people in my generation to accumulate assets, plan estates, and secure families' futures. Receiving an excellent education while strengthening my relationship with Christ in faith will allow me the opportunity to pay it forward and someday encourage more young women to excel, especially in corporate America. I aim to teach young women to acquire generational wealth and serve justice for my Hispanic community with the law. However, I hope to make my mother proud of me to thank her for all she has done for me one day. I understand the investment of this scholarship that would be awarded to me, and I would not take it for granted. I would never feel as if I deserved the scholarship, but I would appreciate the opportunity to earn it and demonstrate my determination to earn my bachelor's and law degrees. With higher education, I will be able to continue to further my purpose in sharing financial literacy with the younger generations and aid my Hispanic community in the financial and estate planning industry.

Throughout my elementary and junior high academic years, I attended a private school by the grace of a scholarship to further my spiritual and educational growth. I felt a strong spiritual presence and knew that continuing my education would help promote my future and, more importantly, guide me to continue serving God. Next fall, I plan to transfer to Baylor University, where I will major in Finance and hope to further my education at Baylor Law School. However, I hope to make my mother proud of me to thank her for all she has done for me one day. Five years ago, my parents were divorced. Now a single mother of five daughters, my mother struggled to provide for four children at home and one in college. At the time, the financial hardship created an enormous amount of stress. Since then, my father has made it clear that he desires to be absent from my sister's and my life. Throughout this ordeal, I realized it was more important to further my education and pay it forward one day with prayer and faith. I want to be an example to my younger sisters to continue the legacy of having a household of five sisters who are all educated. I understand the investment of this scholarship that would be awarded to me, and I would not take it for granted. I would never feel as if I deserved the scholarship, but I would appreciate the opportunity to earn it and demonstrate my determination to earn my bachelor's and law degrees. With higher education, I will aid my Hispanic community in the financial and estate planning industry and encourage more Latina women to strive for higher education and excel in corporate America.

I knew I wanted to further my education when I witnessed my older sister receive an undergraduate and master’s degree. My older sister is a first-generation Hispanic and I desire to earn the same accomplishment so that I can serve my Hispanic community. This past semester, I took Business Law. I found it to be revolutionary and became fascinated with understanding the law. I was able to read many court cases that grew my desire to join the legal field. With my faith in Christ, I earned all A's in my first semester of college. This accomplishment reminds me of my motivation. Throughout my elementary and junior high academic years, I attended a private school by the grace of a scholarship to further my spiritual and educational growth. I believe that corporate men overlook Hispanics as potential prospects. Stating this, Hispanics are not given the equal opportunity to learn to secure their retirement funds, receive justice in the courtroom, and I desire a change. I want to be the change so that I can inspire my culture. I wish to see Hispanic women in the corporate atmosphere, learning knowledge, excelling in the work environment, and changing societal statistics. Receiving an excellent education while strengthening my relationship with Christ in faith will allow me the opportunity to pay it forward and someday encourage more young women to excel, especially in corporate America. I aim to teach young women to acquire generational wealth and serve justice for my Hispanic community with the law. However, I thank Christ for blessing me with an incredible role model, my mother. I would not have had the drive or determination if it was not for my mother. She has taught me that a woman of color can do anything she puts her mind to. At the end of my life, I hope I have made God and my mother proud. I understand the investment of this scholarship that would be awarded to me, and I would not take it for granted. My motivation to earn a higher education is due to my older sister attending Baylor University. My sister, Victoria Peña, was the first generation Hispanic female in my family to earn a bachelor's and master's degree as a Baylor bear. I visited Baylor when I was young and felt a strong spiritual presence. I knew that continuing my education at Baylor would help further my future and, more importantly, guide me to continue serving God. I shall begin my education at Texas A&M Corpus Christi - University this fall and then transfer to Baylor University in the fall of 2023. I am a twin, and my sister and I will attend Baylor University next fall. I feel Baylor has the resources for me to achieve success. What I love most about Baylor is the fact I will be able to build close relationships with my professors and elders. I want my educators to get to know and believe in me. Thirty minutes left until the market closes, my eyes reflect the red loss I have in my portfolio. With my account being down ten percent, I pondered whether or not I should sell and take my profits. I am losing over a hundred dollars. I can hear the rapid beating of my own heart. Tempted to hit the sell button, I remember what my mom told me. “Hold,” she would say. Invest everything and hold the stocks for years. In this new year for the market, I expect to see a seven to nine percent increase in the S&P 500. However, the worst-case scenario I fear is a decline of six percent, but I am not worried. I am only eighteen years of age, and I have thirty-plus years until I can call it quits on the stock market. The most significant lesson is to invest as early as possible, then hold the stocks for years. When you are young, take financial risks. However, when an individual is close to the age of retirement, I advise you to be conservative and do not fall into the temptations of greed. I have always been fascinated with asset accumulation. I realized my vocational path while working in my mother’s financial office. I learned valuable lessons from my mother, such as investing in a Roth IRA, making monthly contributions to the account, and obtaining a diverse stock portfolio. After receiving my Finance degree, I hope to become an investment advisor. The past month, the market has been correcting, and I am not selling. Instead, I am buying more. I am taking advantage of the discounts and contributing more to my future.

I was walking door to door on a hot summer day. I made my way to a local jewelry store. My eyes caught the attention of the owner. Shyly approaching him, I said, "Hello, my name is Vanessa." I shared the theater program's accomplishments and goals for the future. He seemed intrigued. Lastly, it came down to me asking my final question…." " Would you be interested in sponsoring our program?" I felt a long pause at that moment, waiting for his answer. My ears were focused on the beating of my rapid heart. He responded with the answer to my prayer…." " Yes." Being a part of the theater program is meaningful because it has been rewarding in times of downfall, making these past four years exceptional. Due to Covid restrictions, our theater program could not host any musical productions. The worst part of all, there was no way for the students to absorb the center stage spotlight. These complications lit a fire in me to strive for better. My mission was to meet with local businesses and seek sponsors for our program. I enjoyed the process because of my conversations with these business owners. We received over ten sponsorships. The fundraising brings more opportunities for the incoming students that get to endure the passions of Dramacats. Accomplishing a goal such as raising money for the theater program taught me that anything can be achieved as long as the individual strives to impact others. I will carry this experience when furthering my education and pursuing my career. By being graced with a scholarship, I will be able to receive an education which will further the opportunity to share my purpose of educating the younger generations of financial responsibility and inspire more women to work in corporate America.

I was walking door to door on a hot summer day in Calallen. We were not even allowed to gather and see musicals or plays. The worst part of all, there was no way for the students to absorb the center stage spotlight. These complications lit a fire in me to strive for better. Over the summer, my mission was to go out into the community to meet with numerous local businesses to discuss the theater program's purpose and seek sponsors for our program. I enjoyed the process because of my conversations with these business owners. I got out of my comfort zone, and it was impactful. Our program broke a record; we received over ten sponsorships. This new source of fundraising brings light, hope, and opportunities for the incoming students that get to endure the passions of Dramacats. For an eighteen-year-old, accomplishing a goal such as raising money for the theater program has taught me that anything can be achieved as long as the individual strives to impact others most positively. I will carry this experience when furthering my education and pursuing my career. I understand the investment of this scholarship that would be awarded to me, and for that, I would not take it for granted. I would never feel as if I deserved the scholarship but would appreciate the opportunity to earn it and demonstrate my determination to earn my bachelor's degree. By being graced with a scholarship, I will be able to receive an education which will further the opportunity to share my purpose of educating the younger generations of financial responsibility and inspire more women to work in corporate America.

My motivation is due to my older sister attending Baylor University. My sister, Victoria Peña, was the first generation Hispanic female in my family to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree as a Baylor bear. Throughout my elementary and junior high academic years, I attended a private school by the grace of a scholarship to further my spiritual and educational growth. My first visit to Baylor was during a Baylor welcoming ceremony in Waco hall. I felt a strong spiritual presence and knew this university would help further my future and, more importantly, guide me to continue in my servitude to God. However, I feared for my future due to horrid circumstances. Four years ago, my parents were divorced. Now a single mother of five daughters, my mother struggled to provide for four children at home and one in college. At the time, the financial hardship created an enormous amount of stress. There were times when we could not afford to pay the light or water bill. My father abandoned me. Since then, I have had to move forward and be strong for my family. We still struggle financially, but we realized it was more important to further our education and pay it forward one day with prayer and faith. I want to be an example to my two younger sisters to continue the legacy of having a household of five sisters who are all Baylor bears. I understand the investment of this scholarship that would be awarded and I would not take it for granted. I would never feel as if I deserved the scholarship but would appreciate the opportunity to earn it and demonstrate my determination to earn my bachelor’s degree as a Baylor bear.

I deserve a scholarship because I do not want to pay for my education. My mother makes enough money to pay for my education. However, she had to have a colossal amount go kids so I probably can not be educated. Therefore, I deserve a scholarship because I have not worked hard at all within my high school years. I did not work hard to maintain all A's or get into a prestigious school. I mostly cheated my way in high school. My goal is go to college and obtain a useless degree. My main priority during my years in college is to find a rich man. I am going to make him fall in love with me just so I can become a housewife. A housewife is the ideal career and I am going to make my husband pay for my student loan debt. I am going to tend to my children, workout for five hours, and use my husband's money to pay for my botox. Men provide for us and therefore we should be their slaves of pleasure. My dad is in prison. That is my obstacle. I have to aid my siblings and mother because my father decided to commit crimes.

I counted the minutes until the end of my shift. Then suddenly, an older White man (respectively) opened the entry doors to Whataburger. He approached the counter where I was waiting to take his order. I greeted him with a smile, ready to serve him. The time came when I had to ask him the simple words, “For here or to go?” I could never forget the dramatic change in his face, filled with disgust. He stated, “That is a stupid question. If you tell me here, it means you will eat my food. You are not using proper grammar. Where did you go to school?” "I went to a private institution most of my life." His following words saddened me. “Well…that was a waste of money.” At that moment, feeling embarrassed, I replied, “Sorry sir, for dine, your total is $10.19”. When his food arrived, a white (respectively) fellow team member delivered the food to his table. The white customer smiled. I never experienced an insult or judgment because of my ethnicity. I have always been proud of my Hispanic upbringing. Over the next few months, I served this man on many occasions. I was respectful and decided to be the bigger person. With this experience, racial equality can only occur if individuals or institutions prioritize conquering this problem. To have racial equality means that people must approach all individuals regardless of race to provide equal opportunities or promotions to all individuals, regardless of race. Setting this standard teaches the future generations respect of distinct races and carries racial equality for future generations. Establishing this standard will hopefully dilute the individuals who do not know racial equality. Thus, leaving individuals like me, a Mexican American student, to not fear these inconveniences and live in a peaceful and equal environment.

Our program was hopeless due to the reductions in our funding. I then discovered our district does not give us the proper funding compared to other schools in the area. I was outraged. These complications lit a fire in me to strive for better. Over the summer, my mission was to go out into the community to meet with numerous local businesses to discuss the theater program's purpose and seek sponsors for our program. I met with local real estate brokers, insurance agents, restaurant owners, and many other extraordinary people. I enjoyed the process because of my conversations with these business owners. I got out of my comfort zone, and it was impactful. Our program broke a record; we received over ten sponsorships. I was grateful and proud to tell my theater director that our program had received over four-thousand dollars in support. With this money, our program can now purchase new stage lights, afford supplies for our set crews, play rights, etc. Over the past four years, I have enjoyed gathering and organizing events because I feel my purpose is to share kindness and serve God in everything I do. As I further my education, I firmly believe that most individuals desire to be valued and heard in current society. While pursuing my degree, I will use those skills to get involved and carry out my mission. For example, I want to encourage more women of my generation to join the business workforce. It is time for a change, and I hope to inspire women to work in the male-dominated industry. Women have such vast minds, talents and are more than just loving hearts. I hope to inspire women on their journey to generational wealth. I want to share investment strategies with individuals over the whole state of Texas. As a Finance major, I hope to become an investment advisor and help the incoming generations the importance of managing finances and investments. I hope to dilute the fear of financial debt and responsibilities. After university, I see myself working at a successful investment firm in the Dallas area or taking over my mother's financial firm in years to come. It is my dream. I look forward to what God has in store for me. I intend to listen to and respect all colleagues I may meet along my journey. I want to lead by example, for my single mother has shown me that a woman can rise and achieve greatness.

I remember my first family debate as to if it was yesterday. My younger sister, around five years old, would constantly ask for chocolate ice cream, and my mother would say no. My poor mother would get exhausted from the tantrums. At seven years old, I dared to confront my mother and make valid arguments about why she should get her chocolate ice cream. "Valyssa got a hundred on her spelling test, she ate all of her food, she has not had that much sugar, if you give her ice cream, she will stop backtalking," I said. There was an ulterior motive; I wanted ice cream as well. However, I convinced my mother, and my sister and I had our scoop of ice cream. I knew I could easily converse and strive to aid others at that moment. As I grew older, I found interest in government history. I am impressed every day when I learn more about our law. Specifically, I recently learned that Gitlow V. New York of 1925 set a precedent with the use of Selective Incorporation. Without this precedent, many Supreme Court Cases known today, such as Mapp V. Ohio, Miranda V. Arizona, Texas V. Johnson, Roe V. Wade, and many more, would not have been made possible without Selective Incorporation. Applying the Bill of Rights to the states under the due process clause of the 14th amendment is a significant advancement in our government. How fascinating? These elements of how our government functions have established a desire and dream to pursue a career in law. I am not particularly eager to give up. As an attorney, I will work above and beyond for my clients because I care. I want to listen to these individuals' stories, support them, and fight for justice.

That was the answer I needed to become determined and continue my fundraising journey for the theater program. We live in these uncertain times, and I realized that I want to leave this Earth by hopefully impacting my family or other individuals I may cross paths with on this journey. I stayed home as a virtual student for my junior year of high school. While being on a monitor screen was difficult enough to be involved in any extracurriculars, I found the courage and hope I needed to still engage with my fellow actors in my theater program. Due to Covid restrictions, our theater program could not host any musical productions. We were not even allowed to gather and see musicals or plays. The worst part of all, there was no way for the students to absorb the center stage spotlight. Our program was hopeless due to the reductions in our funding. I then discovered our district does not give us the proper funding compared to other schools in the area. I was outraged and repulsed. These complications lit a fire in me to strive for better. As president, I wanted to devise a plan to ensure a safe and joyous new year within our program. I wanted our members to get excited for the new academic year. We created karaoke and poetry reading events, a Friendsgiving, Christmas party, and much more while implementing COVID-19 safety protocols. I wanted to establish a healthy environment where no members would feel left out. Over the summer, my next mission was to go out into the community to meet with numerous local businesses to discuss the theater program's purpose and seek sponsors for our program. I met with local real estate brokers, insurance agents, restaurant owners, and many other extraordinary people. I enjoyed the process because of my conversations with these business owners. I thought of a lawn chair movie night because it would be enjoyable while still practicing social distance protocols. Our student body and faculty will experience a romantic night and enjoy a classic film with the movie night. Currently, we are rehearsing for a One-Act play. Our production is Blithe Spirit, and our program is optimistic we advance in our competition.

"Hold," she would say. I love to trade and analyze the stock market. I found interest when I started working in the beginning of 2020. I wake up every morning reading the news, discovering the decisions of the federal reserve. I then read the stock futures and make guesses on how well or bad the market will do that day. I like the idea of creating generational wealth and having my money work for me. My talent has become my passion and I hope to become a financial advisor. I want to aid the youth and share my ideals with them.

Tempted to hit the sell button, I remember what my mom told me. "Hold," she would say. Over numerous summers, I recognized my vocational path while working in my mother's financial office, helping to develop a retirement planning process. I found significant interest in how the stock market can make money work for the individual. I have learned to watch market trends and how circumstances throughout the world can impact our economy and the value of today's dollar, such as inflation. I have also seen the impact of a rumor and how it influences the market trend. Nothing excites me more when the Consumer Price Index or Job Data is released. When getting a job, my prime goal was to pay for my education. However, once I learned of the power of compound interest, I realized how to achieve my future. I enjoy investing because I feel I have control of my future. As an eighteen-year-old, I will already start planning for my mother's retirement and mine as well. I wish I had learned about investing in school. I feel my generation lacks education or understanding of fiscal responsibility, so I plan to pursue a Finance degree to aid my colleagues one day as a financial advisor. As I grow with my education and gain experience in my mother's office, I will develop a program or advance my relationship skills to serve my generation's people further to accumulate assets and plan for their future. For me, receiving an excellent education while strengthening my relationship with Christ in faith will allow me the opportunity to pay it forward and someday encourage more young women to excel, especially in corporate America. My purpose is to teach young women to acquire generational wealth. However, I hope to make my mother proud of me to thank her for all she has done for me one day.

Standing at the top of the Eiffel Tower, absorbing the French atmosphere, and imagining I can hear the violin playing "La Vie En Rose" is my ultimate dream. I hope during my education, I can travel to Europe. As "La Vie En Rose" means to look at the world with rose-colored glasses, and that is what I intend to do as I walk this fine earth. My current bucket list is short due to my family situation. However, one of the items on my bucket list is that I hope to attend college in the fall. I recently got accepted into my dream school. I only pray to God that He will answer my prayers. In addition, another item on my list was to make an impact within my Drama Cats Theater program. I recently discovered that my theater program does not receive enough funding from the district. This complication lit a fire within me to strive for better. As president of the Drama Cats, I made it my mission to go out into the community and seek sponsors for the program. I met with numerous local businesses, and I enjoyed our conversations. I was so pleased to tell my theater director that we received over four thousand dollars in scholarships. We can now use this aid for our One-Act Play competition with this accomplishment. In the years to come, I hope that I can grow my bucket list and accomplish each item as I further my journey in Christ and on this beloved earth.

Tempted to hit the sell button, I remember what my mom told me. “Hold” she would say. I have learned to watch market trends and how circumstances throughout the world can impact our economy and the value of today's dollar. I have also seen the impact of a rumor and how it influences the market trend. Nothing excites me more when the Consumer Price Index or Job Data is released. As I grow with my education and gain experience in my mother's office, I hope to make my impact by inspiring others and taking charge of their journey to financial freedom. I want to aid people of my generation to accumulate assets and plan for their future.

Opening the email, I felt a rush of anxiety. I had prayed for this moment to be in my favor. Was all my trials and hard work for nothing? I slowly touched the computer keys and entered in my log-in. My eyes grew heavy with tears. Then suddenly, with one click, I got in. I am a twin, and my sister and I will attend Baylor University. My sister and I will be the second and third Hispanic females in our family to earn a bachelor's degree at Baylor University. Four years ago, my parents were divorced. Now a single mother of five daughters, my mother struggled to provide for four children at home and one in college. At the time, the financial hardship created an enormous amount of stress. We still struggle financially, but we realized it was more important to further our education and pay it forward one day with prayer and faith. I want to be an example to my two younger sisters to continue having a household of five sisters who are all Baylor bears. This scholarship will help my family and me. I understand the investment of this scholarship that would be awarded to me, and for that, I would not take it for granted. I would never feel as if I deserved the scholarship but would appreciate the opportunity to earn it and demonstrate my determination to earn my bachelor's degree as a Baylor bear. I look forward to sharing the Baylor pride. I plan to work in the financial service industry. I intend to major in Finance at Baylor University because I am fascinated with asset accumulation. Over numerous summers, I recognized my vocational path while working in my mother's financial office, helping to develop a retirement planning process. I have also seen the impact of a rumor and how it influences the market trend. Nothing excites me more when the Consumer Price Index or Job Data is released. As I further my education, I firmly believe that most individuals desire to be valued and heard in current society. While attending Baylor University, I will use those skills to get involved and carry out my mission. As I start the next chapter of my life, furthering my education will allow me to grow into a young woman, and I will have the ability to give back and continue to serve God every step of my future. It is time for a change, and I hope to inspire women to work in the male-dominated industry. Women have such vast minds and are more than just loving hearts. I hope to inspire women on their journey to generational wealth. I want to share investment strategies with individuals over the whole state of Texas. As I was waiting patiently for the next customer, I counted the minutes until the end of my shift. Then suddenly, an older White man (respectively) opened the entry doors to Whataburger. He approached the counter where I was waiting to take his order. I greeted him with a smile, ready to serve him. The time came when I had to ask him the simple words, “For here or to go?” I could never forget the dramatic change in his face, filled with disgust and anger. He stated, “That is a stupid question. If you tell me here, it means you will eat my food. You are not using proper grammar. Where did you go to school?” Keeping an appropriate attitude and pride for my education, I went to a private institution most of my life. His following words saddened me. “Well…that was a waste of money.” It was racial prejudice.

I was walking door to door on a hot summer day in Calallen. He responded with the answer to my prayer…." " Yes." That was the answer I needed to become determined and continue my fundraising journey for the theater program. Due to Covid restrictions, our theater program could not host any musical productions. The worst part of all, there was no way for the students to absorb the center stage spotlight. Our program was hopeless due to the reductions in our funding. Our program broke a record; we received over ten sponsorships. I was grateful and proud to tell my theater director that our program had received over four-thousand dollars in support. With this money, our program can now purchase new stage lights, afford supplies for our set crews, play rights, etc. An accomplishment I did not think I could achieve has led out program to triumph.

A thousand deliveries later, I handed the food basket to the woman. The smile on her face made my heart glow. She had children with her, and my heart fell for her. I could never put myself in someone shoes until I met her. I wanted to thank her. She had shown me what it is like in the real world, facing real hardship. I never saw the impact a food basket could have on a person until then. In that moment, I knew I needed to make it my mission to help others. Volunteering at my local food bank has had a significant impact on my life. To this day, I make sure I share kindness and serve God in everything I do. For his blessings and guidance encourage me to strive to help others in my community. With the world we live in, I hope others grow and learn from their trials and rise up to serve those in need. I treat others with empathy by having no judgement or disrespect. Instead, I pray and aid for people in need. As always, treat others the way you want to be treated.

The goal for any parent is to do whatever it takes to create a better life for their children. During the years of my mother being a single parent, she had a revelation. She realized that the best opportunity she could give her children was to make a financial sacrifice and enroll her children in private school. The philosophy of "It takes a village to raise a child" was the encouragement a single parent needed to ensure the best opportunity for her children. I am mostly attracted to romance novels because they tend to portray a better perspective of a relationship than I have observed. By reading such novels, they have set expectations that do not make me want to settle. Over the years of high school, I have witnessed unnecessary heartbreak and the impact these relationships tend to have on young women. My view is simple, because of the novels, I will gladly wait for the love of my life. By having expectations, I have been focused on my education and maybe one day I will meet my soulmate who shares the same values and morals. However, as of now, I am only ready to start the next part of my academic journey. As I start the next chapter of my life, furthering my education will allow me to grow into a young woman, and I will have the ability to give back and continue to serve God every step of my future. For me, receiving an excellent education while strengthening my relationship with Christ in faith will allow me the opportunity to pay it forward and someday encourage more young women to excel, especially in corporate America. As a Finance major, I hope to become a financial advisor and help the incoming generations the importance of managing finances and investments. All Americans can learn that you do not have to live paycheck to paycheck. I intend to listen and answer all questions to colleagues I may meet along my journey. My only purpose is to help other individuals prosper in this gracious life. I look forward to the success and blessings that God has in store for me, for He is my savior.
