I am passionate about building a career in the business industry, with dreams of becoming an entrepreneur and founding a Non-Profit Organization. My ultimate goal is to help those in need and make a lasting, positive impact on others' lives.
Currently, I hold a 3.9 GPA and am a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, recognizing the top 10% of students on my campus. I also serve as the Secretary for the African American Student Association (AASA), where I contribute to leadership and community initiatives.
In my free time, I volunteer with The Reading Partners Organization, tutoring children from my former elementary school who are struggling to read. Helping students gain confidence and independence as learners is incredibly rewarding. I also serve as a field advocate for The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, a cause dear to my heart after losing a sibling to suicide. This work allows me to support prevention efforts and offer hope to others facing similar struggles.
Through hard work and determination, I aim to reach my fullest potential and inspire others to pursue their dreams. I believe that with perseverance and a heart for service, anything is possible.

"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." These words by Nelson Mandela resonate deeply with me because education has been the cornerstone of my life’s journey and my vision for the future. My name is Valisha Pearson, and I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Northeastern State University. As someone who has worked as a tutor for eight years and a peer mentor for four years, I have seen firsthand the transformative power of education—not just as a means to acquire knowledge, but as a tool to empower individuals and communities.
Growing up, I was surrounded by people who instilled in me the value of hard work, compassion, and resilience. My experiences as a tutor and curriculum designer have shown me how important it is to create accessible learning opportunities for people from all walks of life. I realized that education can level the playing field, providing individuals with the tools they need to pursue their dreams and contribute meaningfully to their communities. This realization became the driving force behind my long-term goal: to create sustainable and inclusive educational initiatives that help individuals thrive academically, personally, and professionally.
I plan to make a positive impact on the world by leveraging my business acumen and teaching experience to build programs that bridge educational gaps. My vision is to expand Collaborative Learning Connections Inc., the hybrid tutoring and study group business I founded, into a nationwide platform that offers personalized learning support to students of all ages and backgrounds. This initiative will not only help students achieve academic success but also provide them with mentorship and life skills that prepare them for the future.
Beyond my professional aspirations, I am deeply committed to giving back to my community. Volunteering has always been an integral part of my life, whether it’s organizing study sessions for underprivileged students, mentoring peers, or supporting local initiatives that promote literacy and education. These experiences have taught me that even small acts of service can create ripples of change, and I strive to be a catalyst for that change.
As I continue my education, I am eager to learn more about leadership, organizational management, and innovative approaches to problem-solving. These skills will enable me to not only grow my business but also collaborate with educators, policymakers, and community leaders to address systemic challenges in education. My ultimate goal is to ensure that no one is left behind due to a lack of resources or opportunities.
In addition to my academic and professional pursuits, I hope to inspire others through my journey. I want to show people—especially those who face obstacles similar to mine—that with determination and support, they can achieve anything they set their minds to. I believe that when we uplift one person, we uplift an entire community, and that’s a legacy worth striving for.
In summary, I see myself as a lifelong learner, an educator, and a community advocate. Through education, entrepreneurship, and service, I aim to create a world where every individual has the opportunity to succeed. Receiving this scholarship would not only help me achieve my academic goals but also bring me one step closer to making this vision a reality. Thank you for considering my application and for supporting individuals like me who are dedicated to making a positive impact on the world.
TEAM ROX Scholarship
My journey of helping others achieve their best began eight years ago when I started tutoring while pursuing my associate’s degree in Business Administration. Initially, I was drawn to the challenge of simplifying complex topics for students, but I quickly realized tutoring was about much more than academics. It was about instilling confidence, fostering growth, and equipping students with the tools they needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
This passion grew during my four years as a peer mentor. In this role, I worked closely with students to help them overcome academic and personal challenges. I saw firsthand how transformative guidance and support could be, and I learned the importance of active listening, empathy, and providing solutions tailored to individual needs. These experiences solidified my belief that everyone has the potential to excel when given the right support.
To build on my skills, I earned a Certified Tutoring Professional certificate, which equipped me with advanced techniques to better serve diverse learners. This training deepened my understanding of how to create personalized learning strategies and foster a supportive environment where students feel motivated to grow.
My passion for education also led me to curriculum design and development. I discovered the power of creating engaging and accessible learning materials that align with students’ goals and inspire achievement. Whether working with a single student or designing a comprehensive curriculum, I focused on making learning practical and meaningful to encourage long-term success.
Currently, I am pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Management at Northeastern State University, combining my academic knowledge with real-world applications to expand my impact. My entrepreneurial ambitions inspired me to found Collaborative Learning Connections Inc., a tutoring and study group business that aims to make education accessible and collaborative. This venture allows me to use my skills and experiences to empower students on a larger scale while also teaching me valuable lessons in leadership, strategy, and service.
At the heart of all my efforts is a strong belief in the potential of every individual. Whether tutoring a student, mentoring a peer, or leading a business, my goal remains the same: to inspire confidence, empower growth, and help others achieve their best. Education is not just a field I work in—it is my purpose and passion. I am dedicated to creating opportunities for others to thrive, equipping them with the skills and mindset needed to reach their full potential.
Mental Health Scholarship for Women
Mental health significantly affects both my academic performance and personal life as I pursue my studies at Tulsa Community College. It influences my ability to focus, retain information, and manage stress, which directly impacts my grades and overall well-being. When I struggle with mental health challenges such as anxiety or stress, it becomes difficult to stay focused during lectures or while studying, leading to procrastination and a lack of motivation. This can create a negative cycle, where poor mental health leads to academic setbacks, which in turn, lowers my self-esteem and further strains my emotional state.
In my personal life, stress from school can spill over into relationships with family, friends, and peers. When I feel overwhelmed, I may withdraw from social activities, which can lead to feelings of isolation. This isolation not only affects my mood but also makes it harder to maintain strong connections with others. Additionally, not taking time for self-care can cause burnout, leaving me physically and emotionally drained, further affecting my mental health and my ability to manage schoolwork.
To prioritize my mental health while balancing academic responsibilities, I’ve adopted several strategies. One key approach is maintaining a structured routine. By scheduling regular breaks and time for relaxation, I avoid feeling burnt out. Engaging in activities such as walking or reading helps me recharge and improve my focus. This balance has made it easier for me to juggle my academic and personal responsibilities.
Setting realistic goals is another essential step I’ve taken to manage stress. I focus on doing my best rather than striving for perfection, which has helped alleviate unnecessary pressure. Breaking tasks into smaller, manageable goals also makes large assignments feel less daunting and provides a sense of accomplishment along the way. This has helped improve my motivation and reduced feelings of overwhelm.
Seeking support is also a crucial aspect of maintaining my mental health. I regularly communicate with my professors and peers when I’m feeling overwhelmed. Additionally, I take advantage of campus counseling services to talk openly about my challenges and receive support. These conversations provide me with guidance and strategies for managing stress and improving my emotional well-being.
Mindfulness and meditation are tools I use to stay grounded during stressful times. Practicing mindfulness has taught me to focus on the present moment, which reduces anxiety about upcoming tasks or exams. I also make it a priority to maintain a healthy lifestyle by exercising regularly, eating nutritious foods, and getting enough sleep. These habits positively impact my mental and physical health, enabling me to stay energized and focused.
In conclusion, mental health is essential to my academic success and personal well-being. By prioritizing self-care, setting realistic goals, and seeking support when needed, I am better able to manage stress and stay focused on my academic pursuits. I understand that mental health is an ongoing journey, and I am committed to taking proactive steps to maintain my well-being while striving to achieve my academic goals.

As a passionate advocate for education and personal growth, one of my most significant goals is to build a thriving, inclusive, and supportive educational platform through my business, Collaborative Learning Connections Inc. This hybrid tutoring and study group business aims to provide both individualized academic assistance and a sense of community to students of all backgrounds. By blending personalized tutoring services with collaborative study groups, I envision a dynamic learning environment that fosters academic achievement and personal growth.

My mission is to create a space where students not only improve their grades but also develop confidence in their abilities and a love for learning. By offering flexible and accessible learning opportunities, I aim to address the diverse needs of students, especially those who may struggle with traditional educational structures.
Building this platform is a journey that requires continuous growth and adaptation. My goal is to ensure that Collaborative Learning Connections Inc. is not only a business but a vital part of the community, contributing to a culture of mutual support, resilience, and academic excellence. I plan to build a network of tutors, mentors, and learners who can share their experiences and support one another’s success. The impact of this venture extends beyond the immediate academic benefits. It is my belief that by cultivating a positive and encouraging learning environment, students will be better equipped to face future challenges, both academically and personally. The skills of self-discipline, critical thinking, and collaboration that students develop will serve them well in their careers and in contributing to their communities.
This endeavor will also create opportunities for growth and mentorship, enhancing the professional development of tutors and educators. By providing a platform for individuals to learn and grow together, I hope to create a lasting legacy of empowered individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to society. In building this business, I am not only working toward a personal goal but also contributing to the greater good by fostering a more connected and capable community of learners.
In conclusion, the future I am building is one of education, empowerment, and community. Through Collaborative Learning Connections Inc., I hope to inspire individuals to reach their fullest potential, create stronger ties within the community, and leave a lasting, positive impact.
Raise Me Up to DO GOOD Scholarship
Growing up in a single-parent household has shaped me in profound ways that continue to influence my aspirations and goals. My mother, who raised me on her own, showed me the value of hard work, resilience, and determination. Despite facing financial and emotional challenges, she always emphasized the importance of education, kindness, and helping others. Her example of perseverance, despite adversity, taught me that obstacles are a natural part of life, but they are also opportunities to grow and learn.
Living in a single-parent household meant that I often had to be self-sufficient, developing skills like time management, responsibility, and empathy at a young age. I learned to balance schoolwork, household duties, and personal responsibilities, which helped me become organized and focused. I also developed a strong sense of independence, knowing that my actions could make a direct impact on our family’s well-being.
These experiences have shaped my vision for the future. I want to use my talents to do good and help others, much like my mother did for me. Although I am still exploring which career path to pursue, I am deeply passionate about using my abilities to contribute to the well-being of others. I want to make a positive difference, whether it’s through education, community involvement, or entrepreneurship. My goal is to work in a field where I can blend my business management skills with my desire to support others, creating opportunities for growth and empowerment.
I see myself using my education to create programs or initiatives that support people who face challenges similar to those I grew up with. Whether it’s through mentoring, organizing community resources, or advocating for social change, I hope to be a part of something that uplifts others. My experience growing up in a single-parent household has given me a unique perspective on the importance of support networks and access to resources, and I want to contribute to providing those for others.
In addition to wanting to make a difference in the lives of individuals, I am also motivated to contribute to the broader community. The challenges my family faced taught me that it takes a collective effort to bring about lasting change. I want to be part of that change by using my talents to collaborate with others who share the same passion for helping people. I believe that when people come together with a common goal of doing good, they can accomplish extraordinary things.
Although I don’t yet know exactly where my journey will lead, I am committed to using my education and skills to create opportunities for others, especially those who may not have had the same support I was fortunate enough to receive. I am determined to make the most of every opportunity to learn, grow, and give back to the community that helped shape who I am today. My experiences growing up in a single-parent household have instilled in me a deep sense of purpose, and I am excited to see where this drive will take me as I continue to pursue my goals.
ADHDAdvisor's Mental Health Advocate Scholarship for Health Students
Throughout my life, I have always prioritized helping others, particularly when it comes to mental health. As someone who has worked closely with peers in both academic and personal settings, I have developed a deep understanding of the challenges that can affect mental well-being. I have supported friends and classmates by offering a non-judgmental space where they can express themselves freely, helping them work through stressful situations like exams or personal difficulties. Additionally, I have engaged in peer mentoring, providing advice on managing stress, balancing academic demands, and maintaining positive mental health. I often share coping strategies such as time management techniques, mindfulness practices, and the importance of seeking professional support when necessary.
My passion for supporting others' mental health stems from my own experiences with stress and challenges, which have given me empathy and insight into the struggles many people face. I actively listen, validate others' feelings, and provide encouragement, all while maintaining confidentiality and respecting boundaries. This approach has fostered strong connections with those around me, and I’ve seen firsthand the positive impact that emotional support and understanding can have on someone’s well-being.
As I pursue my studies in Business Management, I am learning valuable skills that I plan to use in the future to further support others' mental health. In particular, I hope to create supportive environments within workplaces and educational settings. By promoting mental health awareness, offering resources for stress management, and encouraging open dialogue, I believe I can help reduce stigma and improve overall well-being in these spaces. Ultimately, my goal is to combine my business acumen with my passion for supporting others' emotional health by becoming a leader who prioritizes mental health initiatives within organizations, helping others thrive both personally and professionally.
Elevate Black Entrepreneurs Scholarship
I have always been passionate about education and helping others succeed, which naturally led me to the field of tutoring and academic support. Over the past eight years, I have worked as a tutor, developing a strong understanding of the challenges students face and the satisfaction that comes with helping them achieve their goals. Through this experience, I recognized a gap in the market for personalized, hybrid tutoring and study group services that combine the flexibility of online learning with the effectiveness of in-person interaction. This realization led me to create Collaborative Learning Connections Inc., a business aimed at providing tailored educational support to students in a dynamic and supportive environment.
My journey into entrepreneurship began during my time at Tulsa Community College (TCC), where I earned my associate's degree in Business Administration. As I worked towards my degree, I realized that my passion for tutoring and teaching could be expanded into a business venture that would allow me to make a broader impact. The coursework in business administration helped me gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to run a successful business—everything from market analysis to financial planning—and I knew I wanted to combine my love for education with the skills I was developing in business.
The idea for Collaborative Learning Connections Inc. emerged from my personal experiences as a tutor. I often encountered students who were struggling not just with academic content, but with time management, study strategies, and staying motivated. I realized that many students would benefit from a holistic approach to learning—one that addressed both their academic needs and the skills necessary for success in school and beyond. In response, my business aims to offer a comprehensive tutoring service that goes beyond traditional tutoring. By incorporating study groups, one-on-one tutoring, and workshops focused on skills such as time management and effective studying, I believe I can help students develop the skills they need to succeed both academically and in life.
Inspiration for this business came from the countless students I’ve worked with over the years. I’ve seen firsthand how personalized attention and tailored learning strategies can make all the difference in a student's educational journey. I’ve also observed the power of collaboration in the learning process. Study groups, where students can discuss ideas and solve problems together, not only reinforce understanding but also foster a sense of community and motivation. Collaborative Learning Connections Inc. is built on the idea that learning is a social process and that students can benefit immensely from both individualized attention and the support of their peers.
My goal is to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to take control of their academic success. Through Collaborative Learning Connections Inc., I want to offer students the tools, strategies, and confidence they need to achieve their goals. My vision is for this business to grow into a well-known, trusted resource for students in my community, eventually expanding to offer services at a national level. In the long term, I hope to be able to offer scholarships and grants to students who may otherwise lack access to quality tutoring, making education more accessible to a wider range of learners.
After graduating from TCC, I am excited to continue my education at Northeastern State University, where I am currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Business Management. I believe that my time at NSU will provide me with the knowledge and resources I need to refine and grow my business. The programs and faculty at NSU will help me hone my leadership, marketing, and management skills, all of which are crucial for running a successful business. Additionally, NSU’s focus on community engagement and support for entrepreneurs will provide invaluable networking opportunities and access to resources that can help me further develop Collaborative Learning Connections Inc.
I am particularly drawn to NSU because of its commitment to helping students succeed, both academically and professionally. As I work towards my business goals, I hope to gain the skills necessary to make informed decisions, manage a growing business, and expand my impact on students’ lives. I am confident that the education I receive at NSU will be instrumental in helping me achieve my entrepreneurial dreams.
Ultimately, my goal is not just to build a successful business, but to create a lasting, positive impact on the education system. By providing students with the tools and support they need to succeed, I hope to empower them to reach their full potential and inspire them to pursue their own dreams. As I continue to develop Collaborative Learning Connections Inc., I am driven by the desire to make education more accessible, personalized, and empowering for all students.
Harry & Mary Sheaffer Scholarship
Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have cultivated a range of skills and experiences that allow me to contribute to a more empathetic and understanding global community. I firmly believe that fostering empathy is essential in today’s interconnected world, where cultural, social, and economic differences can often create division rather than unity. With my background in education, management, and mentoring, I am committed to using my talents to bridge gaps, foster inclusivity, and create environments where mutual understanding and respect can flourish.
One of the most significant ways I can contribute to a global community is through education. I have spent the past several years working as a tutor, which has provided me with a deep understanding of the diverse ways people learn, the challenges they face, and the strengths they bring to the table. I have worked with individuals from various backgrounds, each with unique learning needs and perspectives. This experience has not only enhanced my ability to communicate effectively but has also shaped my belief in the importance of tailored, personalized approaches that recognize and respect the individual. By applying these principles, I aim to create educational spaces where every learner feels heard, valued, and supported. Education, in my view, is a powerful tool for breaking down barriers and cultivating empathy by helping individuals appreciate the complexities of different experiences.
In addition to my work in education, my background in management and business has equipped me with the skills to lead and collaborate with diverse teams. Effective leadership, I believe, is grounded in emotional intelligence—understanding and managing one's own emotions, while also recognizing and empathizing with others. Throughout my career, I have prioritized fostering environments where open dialogue and collaboration are encouraged. By leading with empathy, I can guide teams toward solutions that consider the needs and perspectives of all stakeholders. Whether it is in a business setting or within community initiatives, I recognize that understanding the challenges and perspectives of others is essential in creating fair and effective outcomes.
Moreover, my experiences as a peer mentor and in curriculum development have taught me the value of patience, active listening, and compassion. Peer mentorship allows for genuine connection and creates opportunities for individuals to share their struggles and triumphs in a safe space. By actively listening and offering support without judgment, I have seen firsthand how empathy can empower individuals and inspire positive change. These experiences have reinforced my belief that empathy is not only about understanding others but also about taking action to help improve their situations.
Building a more empathetic and understanding global community requires a commitment to continuous learning and growth. In addition to my professional experiences, I am committed to embracing diversity through personal experiences—whether by engaging with individuals from different cultures, volunteering in underserved communities, or traveling to gain new perspectives. These experiences deepen my understanding of the challenges faced by people around the world and help me refine my approach to fostering empathy.
In conclusion, I am driven to use my talents in education, leadership, and mentorship to create environments that promote empathy, understanding, and respect. Through these efforts, I hope to contribute to a global community where differences are celebrated, and individuals feel empowered to work together toward a more compassionate and just world. By continuing to build on my skills and experiences, I am confident that I can play a role in advancing these values, both in my local community and on a global scale.
Black Excellence Scholarship
Question 1: Attribute You Embody Most - Thrive with an Indomitable Will
Life is full of challenges, but I’ve always believed that adversity is the ultimate catalyst for growth. Among the eight attributes of Black Excellence, “Thrive with an indomitable will” resonates deeply with me because it captures the relentless determination and resilience that define my journey.
From a young age, I learned the importance of perseverance through personal and professional hurdles. For example, as a first-generation college student, balancing work, family responsibilities, and my studies required steadfast commitment. Despite moments of exhaustion and self-doubt, I refused to let circumstances dictate my future. My ability to thrive comes from recognizing obstacles not as barriers but as opportunities to demonstrate resolve and ingenuity.
In my eight years as a tutor and my time as a peer mentor, I frequently encountered students who struggled with confidence and felt overwhelmed by academic challenges. Rather than focusing solely on teaching content, I used my own story to show them the power of persistence. My message was simple: success is not a straight path, but a series of choices to keep moving forward despite setbacks. Seeing those students gradually overcome their doubts and achieve their goals reinforced my belief in the value of unwavering willpower.
I’ve also embodied this trait in my educational pursuits. While earning my associate's degrees in Business Administration and Management, I faced financial and time constraints that could have derailed my progress. However, I broke down my long-term goals into actionable steps, embraced strategic planning, and maintained focus on my vision. Now, as I pursue my bachelor's degree in Business Management at Northeastern State University, I remain committed to exemplifying this principle, knowing that persistence will carry me through any challenges I may face.
Thrive with an indomitable will is more than a philosophy to me—it’s a practice. It has shaped how I approach setbacks, inspire others, and pursue personal and professional growth. My resilience has not only fueled my success but has also allowed me to help others find their strength. It’s this unyielding mindset that I carry into every endeavor, confident that there is no obstacle I cannot overcome with effort and determination.
---
Question 2: Attribute for Improvement - Prioritize and Manage Time
While I take pride in my resilience and ability to thrive, one area where I continue to grow is prioritizing and managing time. As someone who juggles multiple responsibilities—work, school, and family—I have often found myself stretched thin. Although I strive to give my best to every commitment, I sometimes struggle to strike a balance that allows me to maximize productivity without feeling overwhelmed.
To address this, I’ve begun creating a structured plan to improve my time management skills. My first step is to adopt the Pareto Principle, or the 80/20 rule, to identify and focus on high-impact tasks. By honing in on activities that yield the greatest results, I can allocate my energy effectively and reduce the tendency to get bogged down by less critical items.
Additionally, I am utilizing digital tools to organize my schedule. Apps like Google Calendar and Trello have become essential in breaking my day into manageable segments and setting realistic deadlines for tasks. By visualizing my responsibilities, I can better track my progress and identify areas where adjustments are needed.
Another part of my plan is practicing the art of saying "no" when necessary. As someone who enjoys helping others, I sometimes overcommit to projects or volunteer roles, which inadvertently detracts from my ability to focus on personal goals. Learning to set boundaries ensures that I can remain fully present for the responsibilities that matter most while also leaving room for self-care and reflection.
Finally, I’m prioritizing regular self-assessment to monitor my progress. Each week, I take time to review my achievements, identify missed opportunities, and recalibrate my goals for the following week. This reflective practice allows me to remain accountable while reinforcing positive habits.
By addressing my time management challenges, I am not only strengthening my ability to meet my goals but also setting an example for others who face similar struggles. Learning to prioritize is an ongoing process, but I am confident that with intentional practice, I can master this skill and elevate my productivity, resilience, and success. Time is one of our most valuable resources, and I am committed to using it wisely to unlock my full potential.
Boyd J. Cameron Memorial Scholarship
As a child, I often marveled at how a single idea could grow into something transformative, whether it was a family business providing for an entire neighborhood or a teacher sparking confidence in a struggling student. These early observations instilled in me a belief that leadership and innovation have the power to create meaningful change. Today, this belief drives me to pursue a business degree—not just to achieve personal success, but to use my skills to uplift others and make a lasting impact on my community.
My journey toward a business degree began with eight years of tutoring and mentoring. Working with students of diverse backgrounds opened my eyes to the challenges many face in accessing quality education and support. As a peer mentor during my college years, I witnessed how collaboration and guidance could inspire individuals to achieve their goals. These experiences not only strengthened my leadership abilities but also sparked a passion for entrepreneurship as a tool for addressing community needs.
Earning a degree in business will enhance my ability to lead effectively and strategically. I aim to deepen my knowledge in key areas such as management, finance, and strategic planning. With these skills, I will be better equipped to develop sustainable solutions that address educational disparities in my community. For example, I envision creating programs that offer accessible academic support, mentorship opportunities, and resources for underserved populations, ensuring that everyone has a chance to succeed regardless of their circumstances.
Beyond my local efforts, I also plan to mentor future leaders and entrepreneurs. Education alone cannot solve systemic challenges, but by empowering others to take initiative and lead, I believe we can multiply our impact. Through partnerships with community organizations and initiatives that foster collaboration, I hope to create a network of changemakers working toward shared goals.
A business degree will not only provide the technical expertise I need to expand my vision but also strengthen my ability to adapt to evolving challenges. The lessons I learn in areas like organizational behavior and ethical decision-making will help me navigate the complexities of leading projects that serve diverse populations.
Ultimately, my goal is to combine practical business knowledge with a heartfelt commitment to education and service. I want to build a legacy that reflects the values of compassion, innovation, and perseverance—values that have guided me thus far. This scholarship would bring me closer to that goal by supporting my journey toward a business degree and empowering me to make a lasting difference.
Autumn Davis Memorial Scholarship
Mental illness has affected my life drastically. Unfortunately, many people in my family suffer from a variety of mental health conditions-including myself. In 2003 my younger brother committed suicide at the age of 12 years old. He was in and out of mental facilities for years due to his diagnosis of severe depression and bipolar disorder, with the possibility of having had other undiagnosed illnesses as well. Shortly after my brother's death, I began to experience my own struggles with mental health as I was diagnosed with PTSD, major depression, and anxiety with panic attacks. I admit that my mental health disorders caused many disruptions to my daily life and activities, but I continued to push through and refused to allow my conditions to prevent me from giving back to my community or helping others around me. These major life events that have happened in the past are some of the biggest reasons that I chose business administration as my course of study in college. Now, I can finally put my entrepreneurial skills to the test and learn so many more tools that I need to thrive in my profession. I am willing to work hard and put forth a strong effort to achieve my goals, which is why I am currently in the top 10% of students on my campus. When I receive my associate degree in business administration, I hope to make a positive impact by opening a non-profit organization that is geared towards helping low-income families that struggle with mental health conditions in my community. I would like to help these families with resources such as food, clothing, utility assistance, mental health resources, substance abuse resources, and so much more. Helping others has always been my passion. I want to use my career and education for a good cause and give back to those who are less fortunate or may be seeking professional guidance. A little help can go a long way so I am extremely dedicated to this wonderful journey, and I know that I will succeed in achieving all of my goals. Bold Study Strategies Scholarship
As a freshman in college maintaining a 3.83 GPA, I have learned a few amazing study techniques that have been significant to my success as a student. The first important thing I have learned is that reading the course syllabus to get an overview of my classes and finding out what my deadlines for assignments are has been essential to helping me gain an understanding of all assignment expectations ahead of time. When completing assignments I make sure to take plenty of notes, writing down the most important facts using different colors or highlighters to separate main points and examples when appropriate. Additionally, I work ahead on most assignments, allowing myself plenty of time to reach out for help from an instructor or a tutor if necessary. Lastly, I study in quiet work environments that is study friendly for students and allow myself to take appropriate study breaks so that I don't get burnt out from working so hard, being sure to reward myself when I complete study tasks to keep my study sessions fun and interesting. I would like to acknowledge that every one has different learning styles so it is important to learn your specific study habits and find out what works best for you. All in all, I hope that I can inspire another student to use one of my great study strategies to succeed in their academic studies and become more successful as a student and individual.

Winner My greatest achievement to date is receiving my high school diploma. I am 32 years old and it took me 13 years to go back to school and continue my education. I was inspired by my cousin to enroll in a program that allows you to get your high school diploma at your own pace. I was surprised at how easily I was able to adjust to the school environment and I really enjoyed being back in the classroom. I excelled in my classes rather quickly by being self-disciplined and practicing good time management skills. I learned so much about myself during this time. I was much more patient than I thought I was. I was able to balance my life as a single parent, work a part-time job, and go to school all at the same time and I was so proud of myself. It was a major accomplishment for me to complete these goals because of all the tragedies and health issues that I have faced while trying to accomplish them. All my hard work and grit was really starting to pay off for me. I remained focused on my goals so that I could ultimately enroll in college like I always dreamed of doing.

My favorite role model, hands down, would have to be my mom. There is no one in this world that I look up to more than her. She is the strongest person that I know and has taught me the true meaning of hard work. I have watched her struggle time and time again and no matter what obstacles she has faced she always overcomes them. She found herself pregnant with me at the tender age of 15 years old. Two years later she had my brother and later a sister. My mom went through 11 years of domestic violence at the hands of my father. She was stabbed and beaten by him and I witnessed most of this as a child. To make matters worse my little brother, who was 12 years old at the time, committed suicide. I can't imagine how numb and hurt she must have felt after such a tragedy. This was extremely devastating to our family. To see my mother experience such a heartache was painful to watch. She was sad and depressed for a very long time. She tried to stay strong for her remaining children. My mother ended up going to grief counseling and instead of letting life get her down she decided to take stay focused. She went to college to receive her Child Development Associates Degree and graduated, After graduation my mother opened her own successful home childcare. Setback after setback my mother continues to be a positive role model. She is like a mother to everyone's children and she gives the best advice. She is strong, resilient, and beautiful. My mother would take care of her sick father, watch my child for me while I worked, and held down a full-time job owning her own business all at the same time. Sometime I wouldn't know she did it. My mother never complains and she always keeps a positive attitude. I admire her strength and dedication. Sometime I fill like I have some pretty big shoes to fill because she is such a hard worker and I want to be just like her. My son adores his grandmother and she does her role with ease. She has been through even more grief recently after losing her father to lung cancer. Though she is going through so much she is still overcoming obstacles because she is restarting her business in another state and accomplishing goals that she has set for herself. My mother teaches me the importance of never giving up and making sure you accomplish your dreams no matter what. No one has taught me the valuable lessons that I need to know for my future like she has. I go through many struggles in my life but I always remember the things that she has told me or the things that I have seen her go through and that helps to keep me motivated. My mother is a wonderful and spectacular woman who is someone who I love and look up to.
Inspired by my mother's dedication I am now a college student and I am very excited to make all of my dreams come true. I am a freshman majoring in Business Administration and I have aspirations to own a Non-Profit Organization someday. I plan to help low-income families and communities who are affected disproportionately because of their race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, and other disparities. I really want to make a positive impact on the lives of others because I personally know what it is like to struggle. I would really love to have the opportunity to help those less fortunate. Today, I volunteer with The Reading Partners Organization by tutoring elementary students who are reading below grade level and I also advocate for The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Getting involved in my community and addressing important issues is a characteristic that I have learned from my courageous mother. She is my true role model and I am so thankful for every lesson she has taught me.
