I came to the United States in 2013. Ever since I was in middle school I've been passionate about research in the Astrophysics field. After working every summer at the Green Bank observatory for the last four years, I was able to secure a mentorship position at SUNY Farmingdale State College with one of the professors in the Physics Department, Dr. Bryan Field. He introduced me to the applications of computer science in Astronomy. My exchange year in Germany allowed me to broaden my cultural understanding, German language skills, and Diplomacy adeptness. Serving as a youth U.S. ambassador really enriched my sense of independence, empowerment, and global citizenry. Both of these experiences have shown me the importance of learning through cross-cultural immersion and approaching the unknown as a learning opportunity; be that a foreign language or a Physics theorem. In the fall of 2020, I will become the first person in my family to college in my family. I was recently awarded finalist status for the Recent Immigrant Scholarship.
