I come from a first generation family, the first to pursue a higher education in college. I have been in AVID for 4 years and the class has helped me with so much stuff especially the process in applying for college. As a first generation student I wasn’t sure how to do things and Mrs.Henchy was a huge part of helping me through the process. I have applied to Palomar college and got accepted. I'm hoping to pursue a career in nursing, attend for 2 years for my associates and transfer to a CSU for my bachelors. I’ve always had a passion for nursing because I know it’s one of many ways to help and care for those who need it. Specifically I would like to work in the labor and delivery unit because I would like to experience the emotion that mother’s feel when they bring a new life into the world and help them through the process as well as making the mother’s feel comfortable. By pursuing this career in nursing, this will positively impact others by providing them with the care they need, care that they may not be getting, as well as offering support to those who really need it and who might not have the support system. Being a nurse has always been a dream of mine. As of now I’m in a volunteer program for my local hospital volunteering in the Mother and Infant Unit hoping to complete 75 hours of volunteering. I hope to get some experience out of such as being a good translator for patients, and acknowledging them as they ask for help. I hope to provide all the support needed to any patients I have now during my volunteer program and then after when I get my future job as a labor and delivery nurse. I really do hope to make a difference not only in people’s life but also for the entire community. As a person who grew up speaking Spanish for my first language I know how hard it is to talk to nurses, or doctors who don’t speak Spanish, it would make my day every day when a patient knows that I speak Spanish which will make them feel happy and comfortable around me. When I become a nurse in the future I hope to make a positive impact to those who surround me in my workplace and make them feel comfortable and respected.
