STLF Memorial Pay It Forward Scholarship
Leadership, to me, is not measured by how many people follow you. It is measured by how many people you inspire to believe in themselves. That belief has guided every volunteer experience I have pursued, from mentoring young students through STEM education to supporting patients and healthcare workers in a hospital.
One of the volunteer initiatives I am most proud of helping organize was the monthly STEM workshops through the Curious Minds program at my local library. As president of my school's Technology Student Association, I wanted to create opportunities for children to experience engineering in the same exciting, hands-on way that first inspired me. Together with other TSA members, I helped plan activities where elementary students could design, build, test, and improve their own projects while learning basic engineering principles through creativity and teamwork.
What made these workshops especially meaningful was the students themselves. Many came from immigrant and underrepresented communities similar to my own. I recognized the uncertainty they sometimes felt when trying something new because I had experienced it after moving from Ecuador to the United States during high school. Watching a child who initially said, "I'm not good at science," become excited after successfully completing a challenge reminded me why representation and encouragement matter. We were not simply teaching STEM concepts—we were helping children discover confidence, curiosity, and friendships through learning together.
Helping organize these events taught me that leadership often happens behind the scenes. It meant planning activities that would engage students of different ages, preparing materials ahead of time, working with teammates, adapting when something didn't go as expected, and making sure every child felt included. My goal was never to create future engineers overnight. It was to show students that STEM is creative, enjoyable, and accessible to everyone.
My commitment to service also extends to healthcare. As a junior volunteer at St. Luke's Hospital, I completed more than 120 volunteer hours assisting nurses in the intensive care unit. I restocked patient rooms, transported supplies, and completed many of the non-medical tasks that allowed healthcare professionals to spend more time caring for patients. While these responsibilities were often simple, I learned that even small acts of service can make difficult days a little easier for patients, families, and staff. Volunteering in the hospital taught me that compassion is often demonstrated through consistency—showing up, paying attention to people's needs, and helping without expecting recognition.
These experiences have shaped my understanding of leadership through service. A leader does not simply direct others; a leader creates opportunities, removes barriers, and encourages people to discover their own potential. Whether I was helping a child build their first engineering project or assisting hospital staff behind the scenes, I learned that meaningful leadership begins with listening, empathy, and a willingness to serve.
As I pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I hope to continue combining leadership with service. I want to expand STEM outreach programs for young students, particularly those from underrepresented communities, while using engineering to solve problems that improve people's lives. I believe the greatest leaders are those who leave others more confident than they found them. Through service, I have learned that creating lasting impact does not require extraordinary moments—it requires consistently choosing to help others grow.
Christian Fitness Association General Scholarship
When I was ten years old, I believed I was going to make the next great scientific discovery. I carried a notebook everywhere, filling it with sketches, theories, and questions about how the world worked. My father, an airplane mechanic, patiently answered every question I asked, never simplifying his explanations just because I was young. Whenever I became frustrated, he would remind me, "Trial and error. Try again until you find the answer. Don't give up so easily."
That philosophy has become the foundation of my life.
Growing up in Ecuador, I found comfort in science because it always made sense. Mathematics followed logic, engineering rewarded creativity, and every question had another answer waiting to be discovered. When my family immigrated to the United States, however, that certainty disappeared. I arrived during high school unable to fully understand English, unfamiliar with the American education system, and uncertain how to continue pursuing the future I had imagined for myself. Simple things that other students already understood—graduation requirements, selecting classes, joining extracurricular activities, and applying to college—were completely new to me.
Instead of allowing those obstacles to define me, I treated them the same way I approached difficult scientific problems: one step at a time.
One of the biggest turning points came when I decided to walk into a meeting for my school's Technology Student Association. I almost convinced myself not to go. I worried that I wasn't prepared enough, that my English wasn't good enough, or that I simply didn't belong. Instead, I chose to take that small leap of faith.
My first engineering competition ended with last place.
Rather than seeing failure as proof that I didn't belong, I viewed it as data. My teammates and I analyzed what went wrong, conducted more research, redesigned our project, and returned the following year. As team captain, I led our engineering design team to earn second place at the New Jersey state conference—the highest placement in my school's history. More importantly, I learned that success rarely comes from talent alone. It comes from resilience, collaboration, and the willingness to keep improving.
Leadership soon became about much more than competitions.
As president of TSA, I wanted younger students to experience the same excitement that engineering had given me. I helped organize monthly STEM workshops through the Curious Minds program at our local library, where we introduced elementary school students to engineering through hands-on activities and design challenges. Many of the children came from underrepresented and immigrant families like mine. I saw myself in their curiosity and sometimes in their hesitation. Watching them realize they were capable of solving difficult problems reminded me why representation matters. STEM should never feel like a field reserved for only certain people. Every child deserves the opportunity to discover that they belong there.
Those experiences changed my own vision for the future. Engineering is no longer simply the career I want—it has become the way I hope to create opportunities for others.

As immigrants, my parents have worked tirelessly to build a better future for our family, but paying for college remains an enormous burden. Unlike many of my classmates, I do not qualify for most forms of federal financial aid available to U.S. citizens, which significantly limits the financial resources available to me. While my parents have always encouraged my education, they simply are not in a financial position to pay for the full cost of college. Because of these circumstances, scholarships are not simply helpful—they are essential to making my education possible.
This fall, I plan to attend Rowan University to study Mechanical Engineering with the goal of specializing in aerospace engineering. I hope to contribute to research that advances aircraft and spacecraft technology while developing innovative engineering solutions that improve people's lives. At the same time, I want to continue mentoring younger students, particularly those from immigrant and underrepresented communities, helping them discover the same passion for STEM that transformed my own life.
When I look back at the little girl carrying a notebook full of impossible ideas, I realize she was never dreaming about becoming successful only for herself. She wanted to understand the world well enough to improve it.
Today, that dream has only grown stronger.
This scholarship would not simply invest in my education. It would invest in someone who believes knowledge becomes most valuable when it is shared, who has already dedicated herself to helping others discover their potential, and who intends to spend her career using engineering to solve meaningful problems while opening doors for the next generation of innovators.
My father taught me that every difficult problem can be solved through trial and error. My journey has shown me something even more important: when determination is combined with opportunity, impossible goals become achievable realities.

If I had to describe myself in one word, it would be curious. Ever since I was young, I have constantly asked questions about how things work, why problems exist, and how they can be solved. I became fascinated by how engineers solve problems that affect millions of people, from designing safer transportation systems to developing new technologies that improve everyday life. STEM became more than a collection of school subjects; it became a way of understanding the world and imagining how it could be improved.
Moving from Ecuador to the United States during high school strengthened my passion for STEM even further. Arriving in a new country brought many challenges. I had to adjust to a different educational system, overcome language barriers, and learn how to navigate unfamiliar opportunities. At times, these obstacles made me question whether I belonged in advanced STEM courses or engineering programs. However, science and mathematics became subjects that transcended language. Equations, physics concepts, and engineering principles provided a sense of stability and confidence during a difficult transition.
My experiences in the Technology Student Association transformed my passion into action. As a member and later president, I helped lead engineering design teams that achieved historic success for our school. Throughout my life, I have learned that making a positive impact does not always begin with a grand invention or a major achievement. Sometimes, it begins with a simple conversation, a helping hand, or the willingness to share your knowledge with someone else. As I prepare to pursue a degree in engineering, my goal is not only to design solutions to technical problems but also to use education, mentorship, and service to improve the lives of others.
As an immigrant student who moved from Ecuador to the United States during high school, I experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to adapt to unfamiliar environments. Language barriers, adjusting to a new educational system, and finding a sense of belonging were all challenges that I had to overcome. Because of these experiences, I understand the importance of community support and the difference that one person can make in helping someone feel welcomed and capable.
One of the most meaningful ways I have made an impact is through my involvement in the Technology Student Association (TSA). As president, I helped lead engineering teams, mentor younger students, and organize STEM outreach programs within our community. In addition to my STEM outreach, I have volunteered at St. Luke’s Hospital, where I assisted staff members and helped support patients and their families. These experiences taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and compassion. Whether helping a patient find comfort or assisting a child during a library workshop, I have learned that service often begins by simply listening and understanding another person's needs.
In the future, I hope to become an engineer who develops technologies that improve people's lives while continuing to mentor students and expand access to STEM education. I want to create programs that introduce engineering to underserved communities and provide opportunities for students who may not otherwise see themselves pursuing STEM careers.

When people think about creating solutions, they often imagine a new machine, a groundbreaking invention, or a complicated piece of technology. While I hope to design innovative technologies as an engineer one day, one of the most meaningful things I have created is a program called Curious Minds.
As president of my school's Technology Student Association (TSA), I noticed that many younger students in my community had little exposure to engineering or STEM careers. Many children believed science and engineering were too difficult, while others simply had never been introduced to them. I remembered my own experiences as an immigrant student entering a new school system and how intimidating unfamiliar opportunities could feel. I wanted to create something that made STEM approachable, exciting, and welcoming.
Together with other TSA members, I helped create Curious Minds, a community outreach program held at our local library. We designed hands-on engineering activities for elementary and middle school students, including bridge-building challenges, design competitions, and problem-solving activities. Rather than teaching through lectures, we encouraged students to experiment, fail, redesign, and work together.
The problem we were solving was not a lack of intelligence but a lack of exposure. Many students simply needed someone to show them that engineering could be creative, fun, and accessible. Through these activities, students not only learned about STEM concepts but also built friendships and confidence. Watching children become excited about solving problems reminded me that creativity itself can be a solution.
If I had unlimited resources, I would expand this idea into a mobile STEM innovation center that serves underserved communities. Many students, especially those from low-income families or immigrant backgrounds, do not have access to maker spaces, engineering equipment, or STEM programs.
My plan would include a fleet of traveling STEM laboratories equipped with 3D printers, robotics kits, computers, electronics equipment, and engineering materials. These mobile labs would visit schools, libraries, and community centers in underserved areas. Students could participate in hands-on projects, receive mentorship from engineers and college students, and explore different STEM careers.
The program would also include workshops for parents, helping families understand educational opportunities, financial aid, and STEM career pathways. Many immigrant families, including my own, often lack access to these resources.
I believe one of society's greatest problems is not a lack of talent but a lack of opportunity. There are countless curious students whose ideas may never develop simply because they were never given the tools, encouragement, or resources to explore them.
Richard Neumann believed that creative thinking is a form of art. My name is Valentina, and I am an immigrant from Ecuador, a first-generation college student, and an aspiring Mechanical Engineer. Moving to the United States at a young age shaped many of the values I carry today, including resilience, adaptability, and gratitude. Leaving behind a familiar culture and support system was difficult, but it taught me how to embrace change and persevere through uncertainty.
My passion for engineering began with my father, who works as an airplane mechanic. Watching him troubleshoot complex problems sparked my curiosity about how things work and inspired me to pursue STEM. Beyond academics, I am passionate about leadership, community service, and helping others discover opportunities they may not know exist. Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
Living with severe anxiety has shaped the way I see myself, my relationships, and the world around me. For much of my life, anxiety made new challenges feel overwhelming. Even simple situations, such as meeting new people, speaking in front of groups, or trying something unfamiliar, often felt much bigger in my mind than they were in reality. I worried about failure, judgment, and making mistakes, which sometimes prevented me from taking opportunities that could help me grow.
One of the most important lessons I have learned is that courage does not mean being fearless. Courage means taking a step forward even when you are afraid.
I would not have learned that lesson without the support of my parents. Throughout my life, they encouraged me to take small leaps of faith instead of letting anxiety make decisions for me. They reminded me that growth often happens outside of our comfort zones and that making mistakes is a normal part of learning. Because of their support, I gradually began challenging myself to try new things, even when I felt uncertain.
One of the biggest examples was joining the Technology Student Association (TSA). At first, the idea of participating in competitions, working with new people, and taking on leadership roles seemed intimidating. My anxiety constantly told me that I was not capable enough or that I would embarrass myself. However, I decided to take a chance. What started as a small step eventually became one of the most important experiences of my life. Through TSA, I discovered my passion for engineering, developed confidence in my abilities, built meaningful friendships, and eventually became president of my chapter.

Sometimes having a passion, a supportive community, or a goal to focus on can help make difficult feelings feel a little less overwhelming. While hobbies and interests are not a replacement for mental health support, they can provide purpose, connection, and a sense of belonging.
In the future, I hope to continue helping others through mentorship, education, and engineering. My experience with anxiety has taught me resilience, compassion, and the importance of supporting those around us. Most importantly, it has taught me that struggles do not define a person. Sometimes the challenges we face become the very things that help us understand, encourage, and uplift others.
Today, I still experience anxiety, but it no longer controls my future. Instead, it reminds me how far I have come and inspires me to help others believe that they, too, are capable of more than they think.

I want to help create pathways for future generations, especially those from underrepresented communities, to pursue careers in STEM with confidence.
Ultimately, I believe being a positive force in society means using your experiences to help others succeed. Whether I am teaching a child through Curious Minds, mentoring a new TSA member, or volunteering in my community, my goal remains the same: to create opportunities, encourage lifelong learning, and help others realize that their potential is greater than they may believe.
“I Matter” Scholarship
One of the most meaningful ways I have helped others was by introducing students to STEM and showing them that science and engineering can be exciting, creative, and accessible to everyone. Rather than focusing on right or wrong answers, we teach students that mistakes are part of learning and that every challenge is an opportunity to improve.
Many of the students who attend have never participated in engineering activities before. At the beginning of workshops, some are shy or hesitant to contribute. However, as they work together to build structures, solve problems, and test ideas, they become more confident. Watching students who initially doubt themselves become excited about engineering is incredibly rewarding. Many return month after month eager for new challenges and eager to share what they have learned.
My efforts to help others discover STEM extend beyond younger students. Within my high school, I have worked to create an environment where students feel welcomed and supported regardless of their experience level. When new members join TSA, many feel intimidated because they believe STEM is only for students who are naturally gifted in math or science. I make it a priority to mentor these students, answer questions, and encourage them to participate in projects and competitions.
One of my favorite parts of leadership is watching students form friendships through shared interests. Students who may never have met otherwise work together on engineering projects, solve problems as a team, and support one another during competitions. Through STEM, they gain not only technical skills but also confidence, teamwork, and a sense of community.
Helping others discover their passions has taught me that leadership is not about personal achievements. It is about creating opportunities for others to grow. Whether I am teaching a child at Curious Minds or mentoring a new TSA member, my goal is the same: to show students that STEM can open doors, build confidence, and help them find a place where they belong.
As I pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering, I hope to continue inspiring young people to explore STEM and discover their own passions. Knowing that I have helped students gain confidence, make friends, and become excited about learning is one of the accomplishments I am most proud of.

When I moved from Ecuador to the United States, I felt as if I had been dropped into a world where everyone knew the rules except me. I had to adapt to a new culture, a new educational system, and a new language while trying to find where I belonged. As a first-generation college student, I was also navigating opportunities that no one in my family had experienced before. At times, the challenges felt overwhelming, and I questioned whether I would ever achieve the goals I had set for myself.
Since I was young, I have been fascinated by science and engineering. My father, an airplane mechanic, encouraged my curiosity by teaching me how machines work and reminding me that every problem can be solved through patience and persistence. After moving to the United States, however, pursuing those interests became more difficult. I was focused on adapting to my new environment and building confidence in myself. Even though I loved STEM, I often doubted whether I could compete alongside students who seemed more experienced and prepared.
Everything changed when I joined the Technology Student Association (TSA). During my first Engineering Design competition, my team finished near the bottom. I was disappointed and embarrassed. After putting so much effort into the project, I felt as though I had failed.
Instead of giving up, I decided to treat failure as a lesson. I analyzed what had gone wrong, researched stronger engineering design practices, and sought advice from teachers and teammates. I learned that improvement begins with honest self-reflection. Rather than focusing on the result, I focused on developing the skills that would make me a better engineer.
Over the next two years, I dedicated myself to learning. I spent extra hours refining designs, studying engineering concepts, and collaborating with teammates. I developed stronger problem-solving skills by breaking large challenges into smaller, manageable tasks. I also learned how to communicate ideas effectively and work through setbacks without losing motivation.
Those efforts led to one of my proudest achievements. As captain of our Engineering Design team and President of TSA, I helped lead our project to a second-place finish at the state level. Standing on that stage, I realized that the award represented much more than a successful project. It represented years of perseverance, adaptation, and determination to overcome challenges that once seemed impossible.
The experience also inspired me to help others. Through TSA, I organize STEM outreach activities for elementary and middle school students through our Curious Minds program at the local library. Looking back, immigrating to a new country was one of the greatest hardships I have faced. When I first arrived in the United States, one of the biggest challenges I faced was the language barrier. I went from feeling confident in my academic abilities to struggling to understand lessons, complete assignments, and express my thoughts clearly. Even simple conversations felt overwhelming. I had to relearn how to be a student in a completely new language while also adjusting to a different education system. One issue I have taken the initiative to address in my community is the lack of access and exposure to STEM opportunities for younger students. I noticed that many elementary and middle school students, especially those from backgrounds similar to mine, did not always see science and engineering as something they could pursue. This reminded me of my own experience when I first came to the United States, feeling unsure of where I belonged and how to access opportunities.
Motivated by this, I worked through the Technology Student Association to help create monthly outreach sessions for younger students. As president and team captain, I helped organize hands-on activities that introduced basic engineering and technology concepts in a fun and engaging way. We focused on making STEM feel approachable rather than intimidating, encouraging students to ask questions, experiment, and learn through trial and error. One of the movies that has had the greatest impact on my life is Interstellar. While many people are drawn to it because of its visuals and story, what stayed with me the most was its connection between science and human relationships. It reminded me of my own experiences growing up and the bond I share with my father, who first introduced me to the world of science.
As a child, I was always curious about how things worked. I would ask endless questions, and my dad, an airplane mechanic, would patiently explain everything, no matter how complicated it was. I have always liked science, even if it is complicated and messy. That is what I love about it: you have the opportunity to create, experiment, and invent. Since I was young, I have been curious about how things work and why they work the way they do. That curiosity has continued to grow and has shaped my interests and goals.
When I started school in the United States, I felt completely lost, as if I had entered a new world that I could not understand. The language barrier, a different education system, and the challenge of adjusting to a new environment made everything feel overwhelming. I struggled not only academically but also socially, as it was difficult to communicate and connect with others. However, little by little, I began to adapt. With the support of a community that uplifted me, including teachers and advisors, I gained the confidence to take risks and pursue opportunities that once felt out of reach.
One of those opportunities was joining the Technology Student Association. At first, I was unsure of myself, but I decided to try. I participated in my first engineering competition and placed last. When I was younger, I lived in Ecuador. I remember that in the few unfortunate times I needed the help of law enforcement or the police, I felt abandoned, as they responded hours later, after my family had already been in danger. They were easily corrupted and bribed, and I felt that there was no one to protect me.
When I moved to the United States, I experienced something different. I first learned about racism, people making fun of my accent, and my struggles. I learned that some law enforcement officers can make judgments based on appearance, being too quick to judge and act. This was very different from the indifference I experienced with law enforcement in my home country. However, not all law enforcement is like this. Some officers are truly helpful and want to make a difference. Still, these almost universal experiences make people cautious, and they also lead us to judge officers, expecting them to be difficult, unhelpful, or even violent. Because of this, law enforcement must make themselves trustworthy to the African American community and other minorities so that we, in turn, can trust them.
The most important principle in any relationship is trust. Trust is not built by presenting themselves as heroes or figures who come to save everyone, but by connecting with people on a human level. This starts with understanding why different communities distrust law enforcement. In many cases, this distrust comes from repeated negative experiences with certain groups of officers or from the tactics used during arrests or questioning. Even if these issues are addressed, law enforcement must actively show communities that change has taken place. There needs to be more examples where people can see how law enforcement has improved, helping to rebuild the trust that was once broken.
As trust begins to grow, the next step is to bring both sides together. Law enforcement should work not only for communities but also with them. Encouraging members of the community to join law enforcement can further demonstrate that change is possible and that these institutions can represent and serve everyone. Through collaboration, communities will feel more comfortable sharing their concerns and challenges. No one understands a community’s problems better than the people who live there, and they want to feel safe. With trust, they can speak openly without fear of being harmed or judged.
The path to repairing years and generations of mistrust is not easy. Both sides must be willing to commit to change and work toward a better future. It requires breaking the cycle of fear, judgment, and misunderstanding. Only through mutual effort can communities and law enforcement move forward and create a safer and more united society.

When I was ten, I was sure I was going to make the biggest new scientific discovery in history. As I explored the theories of science, notebook in hand and mind bursting with imagination and ideas, I felt like the renowned scientists I watched in science documentaries. No matter how often I watched those documentaries, I never tired of their endless possibilities. Astronomy! Physics! Engineering! I asked my dad, an airplane mechanic, endless questions: How does that work? Why? Why not another way? And why again? Fortunately, he was always happy to tell me, since I would just keep asking until I was satisfied. He never tried to simplify it for me, even if I didn’t understand at first. “Trial and error,” he would say. “Try again until you find the answer; do not give up so easily.”
During middle school, I had no reason to give up; studying was the opposite of difficult. What I was learning in math and science classes showed up in the documentaries I watched, and whenever I saw something I had just studied on screen, I was thrilled at the sensation of understanding and familiarity. I filled my notebook with theories, but of course, as a middle schooler, sometimes I just couldn’t understand. The formulas were too complex, and the language was too difficult. But, “trial and error”: start with what you know, learn from your mistakes, and keep going forward.
In high school, keeping up that forward momentum was not so easy. In many ways, it was the opposite of my middle school experience. Moving from my country, Ecuador, I didn’t know how anything worked. Instead of that sense of familiarity, I felt like a little kid trying to understand gravity. Losing my safe place, my “home” of science, for a while, was as hard as losing my childhood home to the move.
But little by little, I learned, and on a perfectly ordinary day, I decided to ask the advisor of the Technology Student Association if I could join the club. I was scared: what if she said no? What if I needed to take harder classes? What if I wasn’t good enough?
“We have a meeting tomorrow; you can come in and decide what event you want to participate in,” she said.
I felt like I was going to burst with excitement! When I went to the meeting, they mentioned an opportunity to enter a real competition, an engineering competition. This was an opportunity I had never had before, and I jumped at it. Of course, I failed: last place. But it felt like I was a kid again. I failed, but I knew why I failed. I knew what went wrong, so I could try again, and this time, make it go right.
Next time, I did more research, and I partnered with another student. When we entered the competition, I was anxious but hopeful, and proud of the things I had done and was about to do as team captain. The responsibility felt weighty, but this time, we got second place in the state in engineering design. I was so happy, I wanted to scream, to go into the hall of the school yelling that I won, to tell the world I did it. I imagined that little girl, notebook in hand, looking at me with proud eyes, knowing that I had finally accomplished her dream.
My next goal was college. During my time researching different career paths, I realized that engineering was always what I wanted to pursue. At first, there was no doubt that I wanted to be an engineer, but I wasn’t sure what kind. When I discovered fields that followed the same process I used in my competition projects; designing, testing, and improving. I knew I had found the right path: mechanical engineering.
Unfortunately, college is not only about meeting academic standards but also about being able to afford it. As an immigrant, it has been difficult to explain my situation and even more difficult to obtain financial aid. I felt frustrated; my dreams felt so close, yet money was the one thing standing in my way. Still, I have not given up. After being accepted into my dream college, the only thing left is tuition, and I am determined to reach my goal. This scholarship would not only help me financially but would also be a defining factor in my future.
I have always been fascinated by innovation and the future. I want to be part of the progress that leaves a positive mark on the world, to create things that help people, not just through technology but also by strengthening communities. I have seen how small problems can grow into larger challenges, especially in communities that must rely on themselves. At the same time, I believe humanity as a whole is one large community, and we can create solutions together.
I want to become a great engineer. I want to make meaningful change and bring to life the ideas I once imagined as a child, as well as the dreams I continue to develop today.

At the beginning, I thought the American Dream was simply a place where everything was possible, a place where everybody had a fair chance of succeeding in their dreams, regardless of their background. However, after immigrating to the United States and starting to try to build a life to reach my goals, I discovered that the American Dream goes beyond the location; it is a process in which one reinvents oneself. This realization wasn’t immediate, but rather came through my experiences and hardship over the last three years.
At the start, every day felt like a brand new challenge: learning and understanding a new language, navigating through the complexities of the United States education system, and the simple act of connecting and interacting with others. All of this seemed impossible, and I didn’t think it was possible to achieve after leaving the country I was from. I felt lost, but during my lowest moments, I discovered something about the American Dream that was unknown to me: the sense of community, people who can see past my hardships and struggles, and see a person willing to lend me a hand in a time of difficulties.
Slowly, all these experiences started to shape me. I learned to adapt to this new environment with the help of my community and eventually started to thrive. The path was never easy; it was a constant cycle of trial and error, marked by failed attempts and successes and a great learning curve. However, each time I failed, I learned to motivate myself to push myself further, and all this impulsed me to reinvent myself into who I am today: an engineer, a dreamer with the power to invent and learn everything that I had never had any idea to dream of, and finally being able to dream and reach for a bigger goal.
Today, my dream is to attend college to find my community again, uplift each other, and reinvent myself as a student able to accomplish my biggest dreams. But yet again, I find myself in another impending obstacle: money, something I firmly believe should not be the determining factor for someone's ability to pursue an education and reach their full potential.
For me, the American Dream has now evolved into an opportunity to reinvent myself, to start fresh with a mindset to reach my dreams and goals. That seemed impossible, but they are now so close that they seem like a future reality rather than the imagining of a dreamer. Now, I think I could finally reach my dreams in this land of opportunity.
