My name is Valentina Clemente, and I’m a broadcast journalism major at the University of Miami. I grew up in New Jersey and graduated from Voorhees High School in 2024; now, I call Coral Gables home. Ever since high school, I’ve been drawn to storytelling; not just writing for fun, but using my voice to connect with and inform others. I started out managing my school’s sports page on social media, creating posts for our teams, but over time, I realized it wasn’t just about sharing scores or highlights. I had a platform, and with it came the responsibility, and the privilege, of being heard.
Beyond journalism, I’ve always been passionate about ensuring that voices often overlooked are heard more loudly. In high school, I spent my years involved in Unified Club, building connections between students with and without learning disabilities. Those experiences taught me the importance of listening, patience, and teamwork, and they shaped the way I view community. In college, I continue that work through the Best Buddies Club, where I advocate for inclusion, mentorship, and creating spaces where everyone feels valued. Both experiences showed me that making social impact isn’t always about grand gestures; it’s about showing up, humanity, and giving others the space to be heard.
I bring that same philosophy to journalism. I am involved in my school TV production, UMTV Pulse, where I work as a package reporter, learning how to research, produce, and present stories that engage viewers. I’m also in the process of launching my own podcast! Through these platforms, I hope to highlight stories that matter, whether it’s breaking down complex content for the public or giving a voice to communities that aren’t always represented in the media.
Above school and work, my prized possessions are my relationships with friends and family. I value authenticity and loyalty, and I surround myself with people who challenge me to grow and see the world differently. The people I love are not just a part of my life; they help shape how I see the world through experiences and stories. When I’m not reporting, I love going to the beach, attending fitness classes, and creating ceramic pieces as gifts for my loved ones.
I hope to build a career in journalism that combines storytelling, social impact, and community engagement. By sharing meaningful stories and amplifying different voices, I want to inspire change, encourage understanding, and remind people that they matter.
