In society right now there aren’t as many doctors and nurses who are people of color. Some people of color have so many health disparities that don’t get treated correctly because of their skin color. This means that if a person of color is at the hospital the quality of healthcare that they receive might be very different than a nonperson of color. In addition, a doctor or nurse might not even believe the person of color and just dismiss their problems and hand them off to someone else. Also, they would end up getting worse treatment than a white person that is in the same hospital. This is something that definitely needs to change in society. Any human being should receive the best treatment for their injury no matter the color of their skin. However, the world isn’t fair or even equal but we have to do something to fight against this form of discrimination and disrespect. I believe that by pursuing nursing I will be able to be a part of this change so desperately needed. I can build a place where everyone is welcomed and no one is treated differently based on their background or the color of their skin. Even if I am working for someone I can help others become more inclusive and see that everyone is just a human being at the end of the day with the same basic right to be provided with quality care. This is also my way of helping people and making sure that they are taken care of no matter the circumstance. I want to be a part of the change that I believe is necessary for our society. When a classmate is lost or needs help with something and I know how to do it I would try and help them arrive at the answer. If a teacher needs an errand to be ran then I would be the first one to raise my hand and offer to run the errand for the teacher. This desire to help others has led me to an interest in the field of nursing. In society right now there aren’t as many doctors and nurses who are people of color.
