My life goal is to work in wildlife and ecosystem conservation and/or restoration. Whether this means being a professor, researcher, or working at an NGO, I know that conserving and restoring what we have left of the natural world is extremely important. I grew up around animals, from riding horses to fostering kittens, which has fostered my love for protecting endangered animals. I have also had the privilege of traveling across the United States, and even the world, and have been continuously inspired to protect the vast biodiversity I have seen.
I am also personally invested in making the ecology field more accessible to disabled students. I am a part-time wheelchair user who has multiple life-long illnesses that have caused me to be disabled for over a decade. I always knew that ecology and conservation was something I wanted to pursue, but for a long time I felt that I would be unable to do so as someone with physical disabilities. I have now realized that I should not let these obstacles stop me, and I have creative ideas on how to accommodate much of my degree.
