My name is Urmi! I love art, music, and science. I’m currently a senior in high school, and I’m interested in using machine learning and optimization to work on some of our most pressing concerns after I graduate from college. I've used CS to give back to my community by building a cataloging system for a local library. My goal is to use my computer science skills to make our greatest discoveries accessible to everyone – regardless of income, race, gender, or religion. The universe tends towards chaos, but over the years as I watched it unfold around me, I’ve wondered if there was a way to solve our most dizzying problems with simple, elegant solutions – and the core principle behind computer science is just that. I know that I want to use my strengths to make the world a better place. Whether it’s by using mathematical models to help fight climate change, working on software that addresses unemployment, or even regulating big tech – the problem-solving skills I’ll be able to develop in college will shape me into the kind of person who can actually solve the problems that plague our world today. Winning a scholarship here would give me the chance to pursue my major at a top-tier research institute, where I could continue my fight for accessibility by working on projects at a national level.
