Bio

Uju is the Health Equity and Justice Manager at The Public Health Alliance of Southern California, where they focus on equitable workforce development within local public health departments. With over ten years of experience as an educator and facilitator, Uju’s work spans community engagement, health disparities research, HIV prevention, health education, training and development, and policy advocacy. Before joining the Alliance, Uju was Co-Executive Director of the Oregon Health Equity Alliance (OHEA), a regional coalition dedicated to advancing health equity policies rooted in racial justice. Here, they led community engagement efforts, including a health equity fellowship program for emerging leaders. Much of Uju's work is inspired by their personal and community's experiences navigating systemic barriers to health and wellness in and outside of the clinic room. They envision a world where everyone can live full and healthy lives bolstered by love, creativity, collective care, and self-determination. Uju is invested in uplifting and actualizing community-defined and driven solutions towards creating this world. In their off time, you can find Uju watching suspenseful thrillers, creating art outdoors, and sitting near the ocean in deep contemplation.
