I am a strong and energetic young woman who prioritizes education and will do everything to accomplish my goals despite any difficult situation. I left my home and my family in Nigeria, for the United States in 2016 when I was barely eighteen to get a better life and safety due to my sexual orientation. Living in a foreign country alone has been very challenging, but my vision and aspirations have kept my faith alive. My passion is to be a Registered Nurse and serve my community. One of my long term goals is to establish a Charitable Organization that caters to providing vaccines, medications, well balanced diet, clean water, and mental health education to under developed and developing countries that might have these vital resources in restricted quantities. According to Aid for Africa, a nonprofit Medical service organization, “22 million people [in Sub-Saharan Africa] live with HIV/AIDS, one child in five dies from malaria, one woman in sixteen dies during pregnancy or childbirth, and there are 750 thousand new cases of tuberculosis every year”. As an individual who was born and raised in Nigeria, I have first-hand experience of lack of proper treatments and medical attention. Insufficient basic medical equipment and proper training in healthcare is a major cause of deaths from minor illnesses. The various deaths I witnessed influenced my passion for charity. I am gradually pursuing my dreams by doing personal research on the areas of the world that organisations like the one I intend to establish would benefit. Acquiring a BSN will foster my knowledge and understanding of vaccines and the best measures to decrease the occurrence of certain ailments. Additionally, I will be exposed to other people in similar fields of study who share similar interests and dreams. This way, we can form a team of healthcare professionals to properly carry out projects by joining our experiences together to accomplish our goals. With a nursing degree, I along with members of my team would be able to provide necessary training and education to individuals in health professions in other countries who might not be opportuned enough to get the standard of education that the United States offers. With this, we can get more people involved with the program to carry out the good work. Not just to bring anybody on board, but to empower aspiring individuals who also have dreams of providing healthcare services to their communities for little or no cost at all. In addition to providing training, local hospitals and clinics will be well equipped with standard medical amenities as well as improve the healthcare systems in order to upgrade the quality of services rendered . Also clean water pumps will be established, healthy and balanced meals will be regularly provided and free medical screenings and tests will be offered. I believe that these measures will help decrease deaths due to poor hygiene, unbalanced diet, unhealthy water and lack of medical resources. As a person who has a passion for charity, with hardwork and the right opportunities, getting a bachelor's degree in Nursing will enable me to exercise my potential. It is one thing to dream, and it is another to find the resources that help fulfil these dreams. I strongly believe that acquiring a bachelor's degree will aid me in achieving a huge part of my goal as well as put me on the right track to fulfilling the greater part of my dreams. Just like Colin Powell said, "a dream doesn't become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work" which is exactly my current investments towards my goals.
