As you review candidates for your scholarship offers, please consider this dedicated California student pursuing a degree in Sociology with a minor in Apparel & Textiles. Alongside my academic focus, I am passionate about fashion, having had the privilege of modeling on high-fashion runways and being featured by top industry photographers.
Despite my dedication to my studies, the financial strain of affording school is overwhelming. I have applied for over 100 scholarships in the past year, yet I still face uncertainty about how to cover my educational expenses. With the Fall 2024 semester at LSU Baton Rouge just two weeks away, this stress is particularly acute.
Your scholarship would provide invaluable relief, allowing me to focus on my academic and personal growth without the constant worry of financial constraints. My single mother and I are working hard to make ends meet, and additional support would be transformative.
Driven by my faith and commitment, I am determined to put in the necessary effort to succeed. Every contribution, regardless of size, is deeply appreciated. Thank you for considering my application and for supporting my educational journey.

Special Delivery of Dreams Scholarship
When I think about the things I’ve experienced in the beginning I felt regret and sad but really it’s all helped me to grow and be where I am today . One thing that I faced that helped me to grow was attending Southern University. I went for a semester and as much fun as I had I felt like I wasn’t happy there and so I came back home for the semester to do online . I would cry and feel mad because why couldn’t I get full experience to be on campus like I hoped but then from being at home I grew so much . It opened my eyes to new beginnings. I started to realize that I needed to go there to get that experience and after being at home I had a fresh mindset . I knew what I wanted to be around . I knew that there were spaces to grow and if I would’ve never came home I would’ve never learned and built those connections . All and all everything that happens in my life is apart of developing and I am learning to appreciate the process . I believe a scholarship would enrich my student experience and empower my progress towards my career and post- graduate goals because it not only will help me financially but it is one step towards being able to achieve the goals that I have set for myself. Not only is it my goal to get my degree but in the process, be an inspiration to those around me to push towards their goals and “do it scared”. In the last two years, my journey to have a successful education has been so unique and I have used my journey in college to motivate young people to go after their dreams and not give up on themselves . Scholarships have helped me learn myself and grow as a person while being in school . I also believe a scholarship opens a door to not focus on the financial burdens but truly focus on my studies while also getting more involved in school activities and continuing to learn and grow and build the future that I have always envisioned. Although I am still in college working to achieve my goals, I want to be continue to be an inspiration and help people achieve theirs as well. I would encourage young people to pursue this hobby by using my platform to inspire and influence those who might not know about it or want to learn more.
Larry Darnell Green Scholarship
My mom is a single mom. Everyday I’m extremely grateful for her because she tries her hardest in everything she does and gives me her all. With that being said, I have faced back to back challenging circumstances that have affected my achievements in school and has resulted in me not being in school for the semester. Although I had been applying for scholarship after scholarship , I had not received any and it left me with a huge balance. Due to financial issues beyond my control , I was forced to end before the semester was over and return home. I was extremely disappointed but I know there is a purpose in it and that purpose will push me through my destiny if I stand strong through the storm. Even after such a disappointing experience, my mom was rushed to the hospital and to top it all off, we were not able to afford to stay in our rental home and had to leave from our home as well . Our financial circumstances have been a challenge and have affected my ability to be in school. This scholarship would mean so much to get me back in school and fulfill the many goals that I have set for myself. I plan giving back to the community in the future by saving up money to hopefully offer scholarships to those who need it because I know what they are going through. I also want to use my talents to help people in need. I have taught myself how to do my hair. I would love to offer free hairstyles to those who maybe can’t afford it because getting your hair done can truly make your day. It makes you feel so much more confident in yourself and everyone needs self care. Although my mom has faced many challenges being a single mom. I thank God for her every single day and I have peace knowing that she is trying her hardest to make things happen not only for her children but for her self. She is the reason for me wanting to go to school and although we are financially challenged , I am going to walk that stage and smile knowing my mom was a huge help in the process. It is also my goal to give back to single mothers and be an inspiration to any child with a single parent.

Throughout my college and career journey, my biggest goal was to continue to “Do it scared”. I don’t want to overthink the process or scare myself out of backing out. I just want to put my best foot forward. It is easy to allow fear to creep up on you and stop you from achieving greatness. In college, I definitely want to be successful with my grades but not give up when things get hard. I definitely want to focus on the education while also being active on campus during my years. In my career , it is my biggest dream to be a traveling runway model. I have been doing runway modeling for 4 years but of course I want to be doing higher end shows. I see myself having the ability to bring change amongst my peers and in my modeling career. I learned to maintain and find balance between personal, educational and my modeling career goals as well as self-care. I believe having this scholarship will help me to achieve my goals to succeed in my education and further help me to achieve black excellence in my future endeavors. In full transparency another goal I have is genuinely just navigating through life as well. Taking life one day at a time and still pouring into myself. Not forgetting to believe in me , to be proud of me , to forgive me. I also plan to impact the world and live my life with a purpose by continuing to be a good person and be a light in a world full of so much darkness.

Healing within myself and with family as well and I know my journey is helpful to someone else so I continue to be transparent about it and keep praying in the midst.

I am building a beautiful future because as a Christian I’ve learned to keep my faith and put God first in everything I do. Through the challenges I’ve embraced them as opportunities for learning and staying committed to my vision .Being an asset to my community and my family and I am confident a beautiful future will come from that. Everyday I’m still learning and trying to figure it out but still reaching towards the goals I’ve set is the most important to me.My journey to have a successful future has been so unique and has opened a door for me to be an inspiration to so many people around me. Through the ups and down, I have continued to keep strong faith and pushed through to achieve my goals while also being a help to someone else in the process. Prosper with a purpose is one the attributes listed that I think is my greatest area. Throughout my college and career journey, my biggest goal was to continue to “Do it scared”. No matter what challenge comes my way, I have learned to keep my faith and know that purpose will push me through my destiny if I stand strong through the storm. I also believe I will be a continual leader.isplayed good leadership many times. One of the examples that truly comes to mind is me deciding to move away for college. Many of my friends in highschool either didn't decide to go to a 4 year college due to fear of moving, which is extremely understandable or didn’t go to college at all. I had a big vision for myself and I set a goal. I took a leap of faith to not only transfer to a new school but move from California to Louisiana to fulfill my goals and further my education. In the process, I’ve made many tough decisions , built relationships , and inspired so many around me. I think furthering my education will empower me to achieve black excellence because I will gain more knowledge and wisdom to take what I’ve learned and pour into the next generation to help them be strong in their convictions as a black male or female. It helps to be proud about who I am as an African American. . Because what we have been through gives me an extra push to push in my education and succeed . It is a major goal to be a leader to young black children and truly to anyone around me who has goals to succeed in life. It helps to know that many people use my experience as a reason to take that leap.
Arthur and Elana Panos Scholarship
When I think about times that I relied on my faith to overcome a certain obstacle or challenge , the first thing that comes to mind is my journey transferring into a new college last year. In 2022, I attended Southern University A&M for my freshman year and although I had made amazing memories and made so many lifelong friends, God had other plans and I went back home after being there for only one semester. Coming back home after one semester and finishing my next semester online was truly a transition and a sacrifice but I can say it opened so many doors .Although I didn’t understand what God was doing I knew that he had other plans. In September of 2023, I was still at home and I faced a lot of challenges from my nana being in the hospital to my little sister needing to get a major surgery and the idea of returning back on campus truly just didn’t seem realistic at the time. In October ,I slowly started becoming more interested in being back on campus and I knew the chapter at Southern University ended and I was going to need to begin looking into transferring. For some reason the journey into transferring was extremely difficult to where I had no idea where I was going to go. One day, I reflected about my relationship with God my freshman year . I started to think about how I really just didn’t pray or didn’t work towards any of my goals and this year I made a promise that no matter where I went , I was going to keep God in the process and push everyday for my goals and aspirations. I can definitely say I kept that promise. Around the beginning of November, I still had no idea where I was going to be transferring. I did college tours and so much research day and night to figure out not only which college was going to offer me the most resources but which college would suit me the best. I had every reason to give up but for some reason I just was not letting go of my goals. I knew that even though school started back in January and it was November and I still had no idea where I was going , that by January I would be back on campus in the best school that God thought was best for me. My faith was so high even though it was getting tested every single day. In the middle of November, it finally came down to deciding and I still didn’t know because I wanted God to provide the answers but at the end of November I was accepted into Louisiana State University and by January , I was headed to Louisiana to move into my on campus apartment. When I look back at those times last year , I can say with everything in me that if it wasn’t for my faith in myself and in God , I wouldn’t have been where I am today. I had huge faith that everything would be okay and it was. I had a beautiful spring semester at Louisiana State and I’m so grateful for all the doors that have opened and that are still going to open for me in the future .

I love clothes and being creative with my outfits which is something I’ve learned to do after learning myself a little more. My current career goal is to be a successful runway model and take it as far as Paris fashion week and New York fashion week. My name is Tyra Moore. I am 20 years old from Sacramento,California. I am a sophomore at Louisiana State University. Everyone who knows me knows I have a huge passion for fashion . I love clothes and being creative with my outfits which is something I’ve learned to do after learning myself a little more. My current career goal is to be a successful runway model and take it as far as Paris fashion week and New York fashion week. All I can ever imagine for my life is greatness and I know that my story is inspirational which is why I don’t give up even when times are hard. When I was younger, I used to get bullied for my height. I used to be so insecure about it that I never wore heels or in pictures would scrunch down to be the same height as everyone else. I always used to feel like an odd one out because there weren't many girls like me that were tall. Years later, I started modeling and it truly boosted my confidence. It was always so exciting to be complimented for being tall and appreciated. It felt good to even see many girls the same height as me or even taller. I noticed that as I was living my dream, I was making a huge impact on young girls around me. Even a huge impact on my little sister. As I got older, I learned to walk with my back straight and my head held high because my height is beautiful. When I see how much I have inspired people it keeps me going. The amount of people now who compliment my height is so crazy. The younger me never thought the bullying would end and for sure never pictured the same thing I was getting bullied for to be my greatest appreciation and the reason for my career. I’ve gotten many comments asking for modeling advice or even tips on how to start and it warms my heart ! In the last year I have also used my experience to be a huge help to young ladies working their way to go to college so I hosted an event with Sacramento Sister Circle that offered scholarships and gave advice for girls who recently graduated highschool and has decided to go to college. I was extremely grateful to be apart because I was one of those girls my senior year in highschool. I live my life keeping faith and Trusting that God has great things in store for me and I continue to just learn and grow and be a help to people achieving their goals while trying to achieve mine.
Learner Math Lover Scholarship
Ever since I was little, I always said my favorite subject was math. I used to say math because it was the easiest thing to say but as I got older, I actually began truly loving math. Math is so fun for me even though sometimes it can be very challenging. I enjoy those moments where it looks extremely difficult and you tell yourself that you have no idea how to solve it but when you focus or with help you realize it is not as hard as you thought and you finally solve it and excitement grows. I honestly enjoy the challenge as well. I believe that some math problems can open a door for growth as well. I believe it helps me to not give up on myself so fast and use that same strategy in life as well. Learning to be patient and being open to ask for help also. Getting a tutor has been the biggest help when it comes to math but each time I'm excited to learn the problem and figure out how to solve it. Overall , I truly love math and I hope to get better at it so I can eventually be a tutor in the future.
Walking In Authority International Ministry Scholarship
My journey has been shaped by many unique experiences, each of which has fueled my desire to uplift and inspire others. In the last few years, I faced challenges that pushed me to discover my passions and strengths. Along the way, I've been fortunate to encounter people and communities who have recognized my potential and poured a great amount of love and support, and resources into my future and I couldn’t be more appreciative and grateful. My journey and support motivates me to give back into the community because they poured into me.
One of the most impactful aspects of my journey has been the support from my community. Many members from my church , family friends, professors , and even strangers have consistently encouraged me, given me many resources and guidance and poured into my goals . Each piece of encouragement has contributed to my resilience and belief in my abilities, giving me the strength to overcome obstacles. This community support has instilled in me a deep gratitude, and it’s a constant reminder of the impact we have on one another. This network of support has been a powerful force in my life, and it inspires me to be that same source of strength for others.
In pursuing my passion for beauty and fashion, I discovered a unique way to connect with others. These fields allow me to express creativity and encourage people to see their beauty and potential. By helping others embrace their own style, I empower them to feel confident and true to themselves. This is more than just about appearance; it’s about helping people express their identities and feel valued. Each person I help, each person who walks away feeling uplifted, reminds me of the importance of community and connection.
My vision for the future involves giving back to the community that has supported me. I am committed to using my skills to inspire younger generations, showing them that no matter their circumstances, they too have the power to shape their futures. The investments others have made in me make me feel a responsibility to extend that same generosity and belief to others. By giving back, I honor the legacy of those who have contributed to my success, creating opportunities for others to thrive.
Ultimately, my journey has been one of growth, connection, and shared strength. Inspired by the support I’ve received, I am driven to help others discover their own potential, pay forward the kindness I’ve been shown, and contribute to a cycle of empowerment in my community.
Kalia D. Davis Memorial Scholarship
My name is Tyra Moore. I am 20 years old from Sacramento California. I have a huge passion for fashion and my goal is to inspire people all around to continue to push for their dreams and not give up even when things get difficult. I have been doing runway modeling for 4 years and with that I try to be a role model for young tall girls who might not feel secure in their height. I am a sociology major as well. I attended Southern University A&M my freshman year of college and transferred to Louisiana State University my sophomore year of college. In July of 2024 , I hosted a luncheon for young girls who just recently graduated from highschool and are transitioning into college. The luncheon offered scholarships and resources for the girls and I was very proud to say I was apart of it and pour into my community. This scholarship would truly just be a huge help to me and my family as I’m currently experiencing some financial challenges. The expenses to attend Louisiana state are not cheap at all . Because I am from California, I am left with out of state tuition and traveling to Louisiana itself is very expensive as well. My mom is a single mom so there is only so much she can do on her own. She is currently dealing with her own financial battles at this time which leave me left to figure things out on my own and use my resources to pay for school . My goal is to continue to stay consistent in applying for scholarships and continue to save the money I make on my own because it can help me to be able to attend the school that I want while also avoiding school loans and also take some weight off my moms back. Unfortunately I don’t get help financially from my dad so it is on me and my mom to do everything possible to make sure that my school is taken care of. Scholarships have previously helped me so much during my freshman year and gave me the opportunity to continue my academic journey and now that I have transferred I have to put in the same drive so it can help for the remainder of my college years. Any scholarship I have received has made me more than grateful and appreciative because this journey is not easy all by yourself.

LeBron James Fan Scholarship
Why not is not an option when discussing “King James.” So, clearly I am not only a fan, but a huge fan of the one and only LeBron James. Aside from the fact that LeBron is n amazing basketball player and overall athlete, he is so much more.
LeBron is a leader on and off the court and in his family as a dad and husband. I watched a documentary about LeBron that made me have so much more respect for him as a mentor but he is not afraid to acknowledge those who paved the way for him just like he is to so many others. I was amazed when I learned about the I Promise School he created in his home town for at-risk kids. Also there is something to be said about someone who was a high school basketball player and now the best basketball player in the world who still has his same friends since childhood. He didnt get so rich and famous that he forgot about his friendships. He reminds me of Kobe Bryant because he is so strong and continues to work on his talents regularly.
Watching LeBron be a leader, team player, peer and more during the recent Olympics was just another opportunity to watch LeBron shine right along with Steph Curry and Kevin Durant .
Team USA Fan Scholarship
LeBron James is my favorite athlete whether on Team USA or simply in Los Angeles, California. The next simple answer is that one of my favorite athletes to cheer on during the 2024 Olympics in Paris is Simone Biles. As a young black woman, I am proud of Simone for her athleticism and her dedication to her passion. However, I love that she took time away from gymnastics to address her mental health. I have watched her be great for several years, but this year Simone is stronger and better than ever.
In addition to LeBron James and Simone Biles, I've enjoyed watching swimming to see the skill, power and strength of Katie Ledecky. I was amazed to learn she competed in her first Olympics at the age of 15 and now at age 27, Katie doesn't seem to be slowing up any time soon. While I cannot say Noah Lyles is a favorite on the Men's 100m, I have enjoyed watching the race itself, I have enjoyed watching him underestimate his strong competition. Max Whitlock, Sha’Carri Richardson and Suni Le are a joy to watch. It's something about hearing their backstories, that capture my attention about these stellar athletes who have committed to greatness and have the opportunity to compete as the best in the world.
Way to go, Team USA!
Henry Bynum, Jr. Memorial Scholarship
As a child of divorced parents raised by a single mom, I have navigated the challenges of a complex custody situation and financial hardship. Throughout my life, I have been fortunate to receive mentorship from individuals who have overcome similar obstacles, including divorce, financial insecurities, trauma, and lack of access to resources. These mentors have inspired me with their resilience and determination, and I aspire to mirror their strength and support to the youth in my community.
With this scholarship, I aim to provide mentorship and resources to other Black children raised in single-parent households, showing them that there is nothing they cannot accomplish. Despite facing significant difficulties in securing the necessary scholarships for my higher education, I remain steadfast in my commitment to pursue my studies and make a positive impact on my community.
I also have an 8-year-old little sister who looks up to our mom as a superwoman, though she is too young to fully understand the sacrifices our mom has made. I want to be a personal hero for her, just as our mom is for us. As a tall Black young woman, I have been a fashion model for five years, a varsity high school cheerleader for three years, and participated in competitive cheer during my senior year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I became a self-taught braider and am now recognized as a seasoned braider. Younger girls often ask me for advice on modeling, competitive cheer, or braiding, and I am committed to sharing my experiences and encouraging them to pursue their dreams with confidence and resilience.
With a heart full of optimism and a spirit that perseveres, I share my experiences as a child of divorced parents, raised by a single mom, with young girls seeking guidance on modeling, competitive cheer, or braiding, encouraging them to chase their dreams with confidence, determination, and a never-give-up attitude.
I aspire to pursue my dream of closely engaging with the student community in the future. After graduating, I aim to establish strong connections with local nonprofits that prioritize girls' self-esteem initiatives. Consistent with my values, interests, and future aspirations, I plan to utilize this scholarship for a study abroad experience that broadens my perspective.
As a child of divorced parents, I overcame the challenges of a complex custody situation and financial hardship, thanks to mentorship from individuals who had similar experiences.
Anything is possible for those who have God and amazing mentors.
Maggie's Way- International Woman’s Scholarship
I can relate to Malgoratzata’s challenges. I can relate because in 2022 it was my first year of college and I was going to an hbcu. Other than my mom and my friends I didn’t have a lot of support but it was still my goal to move away for college. I had to take a leap of faith and just do it. I couldn’t worry about what other people were saying or what other people thought I should do but I did what I thought would be great for me. Although I’m looking to transfer , moving was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Meeting new people and building new bonds made me so happy . I had my mind set and nothing was going to get in the way of my goal and what was important to me. I did scholarships and I made it happen. I continued to do modeling which a lot of people thought I wouldn’t continue because I was so far out but I still did it. I didn’t let my location get in the way. I am grateful for every experience I faced and I am proud of myself but just going to do it. Sometimes not having support can be hurtful because of course you want people to feel the excitement you felt but in that moment I knew that I wasn’t letting having no support make me change my mind. It is okay to just push for what you want to do and it is also okay to change your mind. Everything happens for a reason. Everything you do will push you further in life and you have to just be appreciative of the process and appreciative of your journey. No matter if you have no support or have all the support in the world . You have to do what you love. You have to go after it. Thoughts and fears get in the way all the time and you don’t want to just carry big regret. The journey might be scary but it will always teach you something. Going to an Hbcu definitely taught me a lot and I can’t wait to visit the people who I have met who have became my best friends and have a blast with them and I can’t wait to continue these bonds for a long time. All in all I relate because we both had to just not overthink our situation and do it. Taking that leap of faith and becoming fearless and supporting your own goals and dreams.

When I think of what I want my line to look like I want everything in my line to not only define me but I want it to be clothing that everyone would want to wear. It’s always been a goal to start my own clothes. To see people rocking what started off as a tiny idea to a beautiful vision that came to life would make me whole. I have done runway modeling for 4 years and with that I’ve seen the happiness that designers feel when their vision comes to life. When you see the modelings killing it in your clothes , when you have something that represents you, when you have a passion that you can also share with others. I want my line to be very cute and fun and bright and something you wear going out while also some outfits that you wear when your chilling and want to be cute but not too bold. With that being said that chill fits is going to include a lot of denim sets. Something I would wear but customize it to make it fun. I will throw in some patchwork clothing. Because I did model for so long I picture outfits you can everyday that still represent you well and outfits you can wear going to a fashion show or an event . I want my line to scream versatile. When I think of versatile I think of Zendaya or Beyoncé. People who will wear all types of styles. Being I do model I have became versatile. Sometimes I want an everyday outfit and sometimes I want to pop out and show off. It’s all about how you feel when you put your outfit on. I want people who wear my line to feel confident in how it fits their body and feel beautiful. I want my king and queens to feel on top of the world . You can have that one part of your outfit that is a statement piece and it can make everything so much better. I love fashion and I love the art of it and I want to study it more and be able to create something that not only I love but so many other people love and enjoy the pieces I bring out. I know that one day that will happen I just have to stay consistent in order to get there.

My name is Tyra Moore. I am 19 years old from Sacramento California . I currently attend Southern University A&M in Louisiana. I do hair ( braids to be specific) as well as runway modeling and dance. I’ve cheered as well for 6 years and was doing modeling at the same time. I have done New York fashion week and LA fashion week as a freelance model which means I am not signed. I am an older sister to a beautiful 7 year old or how she says it “ 7 and a half”. I am truly a family woman. I am all about fashion. I want to eventually have my own hair salon as well as be a stylist and for the last year it has been my biggest goal to graduate from college. In the beginning it was my biggest goal to attend an hbcu and now that I have gotten that experience I am very satisfied and I have now created a new goal to attend a school in Los Angeles. My freshman year I was very reliant on scholarships and funding to help me throughout college. My mom is a single mom and although I have my father it wasn’t help added in the process of going to college and payments and there was a lot of pressure put on my mom to truly make it happen. The funding saved me and allowed me to continue my freshman year on campus and I’m more than grateful. Because I don’t want to see my mom continue to struggle and feel worried about how she is going to pay for my college and make it happen again, it’s up to me to be consistent in doing my scholarships and continuing to save so that I can fulfill my goal and keep the plan that I had set which was to graduate from college. Seeing myself walk down the stage and say I have a degree will be the best day of my life. I will feel so accomplished and proud that I didn’t give up on myself like I thought I would or I didn’t allow my fears to take over me. I know that just by me taking a leap of faith and going to college truly inspired so many around me and it will continue even more when I graduate from college. I am so grateful for the good and bad in college because it has matured me and prepares me for adulthood. Overall , I will use the money to put into my schooling and continue to take the weight off of my mom’s shoulder.
