My name is Tyler Jordan, and I am deeply involved in my school community through the National Honor Society, Student Council, and the role of Senior Class Secretary. I am also a four-time regional qualifier in Cross Country and Track & Field, as well as MVP for Cross County for four years. 1st Team All District Football Utility Player, as well as Honorable Mention Linebacker. Despite recent challenges, including the passing of my mother five months ago, my brother and I continue to support each other.
I aspire to become an athletic trainer and coach, inspired by the impact my head coach has had on my life. He became a father figure, offering guidance and encouragement when I needed it the most. His dedication not only shaped my understanding of the game, but also instilled in me the desire to be a source of inspiration and support for young athletes. I am passionate about creating an environment where they feel valued and motivated, and I aim to guide others towards a deeper relationship with Christ.
To achieve my career goals, I plan to attend East Texas Baptist University, focusing on a major in athletic training/coaching/secondary education with an emphasis in special education over the next four years. Additionally, I will be running cross country and track, 800m, while at ETBU. I anticipate working a part-time job to help cover any additional expenses. This plan will not only allow me to immerse myself fully in my studies but also prepare me for a successful career in athletic training/coaching/teaching.

Life is an unpredictable journey, often marked by challenges that test our resilience and strength. My own journey has been a series of trials and tribulations, shaped by the loss of my mother, the absence of my father, and the necessity of bouncing from one place to another with my brother. Yet, through these experiences, I discovered an invaluable lesson that has become the cornerstone of my existence: E + R = O, or Events plus Response equals Outcome. This equation, introduced to me by my head football coach, has been my guiding principle, shaping the way I navigate through life’s difficulties.
My childhood was anything but stable. My father left when I was only two, a loss that left an indelible mark on my early years. Despite this absence, my mother, although battling her own demons with alcoholism, did her best to provide for my brother and me. She was a complex figure in my life – a woman who loved fiercely but struggled deeply. I remember the nights when she would be at her lowest, and yet, there were moments when she would gather us close, sharing stories that ignited our imaginations. It was a paradox, loving someone so deeply while grappling with the pain of their struggles. I lost her on September 14, 2024, a day that forever changed my life. The grief of losing my rock was overwhelming, but it also became a catalyst for my growth.
On September 14, 2024, the day started out as any other day, and it was a Saturday, so I left home to go and referee youth football all day. While I was referring football, my mother suddenly passed away, leaving my brother and I without any parent. This has been a devasting experience and it also occurred during my senior year in high school. With that being said, I now had to step up and assume responsibility for myself, as well as my younger brother, who was a sophomore in high school. I am proud to say that I did step up and take responsibility and I graduated with honors from high school and achieving my mother's dream for me to pursue track and field in college.
After my mother passed away and even when she was still with us, our grandmother and our aunt took us in and still do to this day helping us shape into the men that my mom knows we could be. In the midst of this chaos, my head football coach became a pivotal figure in my life. He recognized my struggles and took me under his wing, offering guidance and support. It was during one of our many conversations that he introduced me to the equation E + R = O. He explained that while we cannot control the events that happen to us, we hold the power to choose our responses. This idea resonated deeply with me. I realized that my circumstances did not define my future; rather, my reactions to those circumstances would shape my path forward.

I have volunteered the past four years with Alto Youth Football and Alto Youth Basketball with being a coach for a young team and attending games with them, as well as practices. I have also assisted with teaching skills camps in each sport. I enjoy the younger children coming up to me in the community and saying, "hey coach." As stated above, I did not have a father figure in my life and my mother struggled with mental illness, as well as alcoholism and narcotic abuse. I want to make a difference in a young child's life when they have no one else.

To achieve my career goals, I plan to attend East Texas Baptist University, focusing on a major in athletic training over the next four years. I intend to finance my education through local scholarships, opportunities provided by the university, and financial aid from FAFSA. Additionally, I anticipate working a part-time job to help cover any additional expenses. This plan will not only allow me to immerse myself fully in my studies but also prepare me for a successful career in athletic training.

I have been enrolled in a 504 plan since grade school. I have a lot of anxiety when taking tests and speaking in front of people. I have learned to cope with this better as I have gotten older, but still have anxiety.
