Women in STEM and Community Service Scholarship
Throughout my career, I have been passionate about leveraging technology to solve real-world problems and improve people’s lives. My journey in UX research and project management has allowed me to bridge the gap between technology and human needs, ensuring that digital solutions are accessible, user-friendly, and impactful. I strongly believe that technology should serve communities, not just businesses, and I have dedicated my work to making that vision a reality.
One of my proudest achievements was creating the first UX research training program in Azerbaijan, where I introduced beginners to essential research methodologies such as surveys, focus groups, and usability testing. By empowering individuals with UX research skills, I contributed to a growing awareness of user-centered design in my home country. Now, in Houston, I continue to share knowledge by actively supporting my classmates in Agile principles and preparing to speak at an upcoming PMI Houston Chapter event on project management. My experience in project management, Agile methodologies, and UX research has positioned me as a mentor and advocate for inclusive technology solutions. At the PMI Houston Chapter event, I will share my insights on project management, Agile methodologies, and their real-world applications in tech-driven environments. This opportunity allows me to contribute to the professional community, exchange ideas with industry experts, and empower others with practical knowledge. By engaging in such events, I continue to build a network of like-minded professionals while reinforcing my commitment to education and mentorship.
Beyond my professional work, I am deeply committed to addressing broader social challenges. As a first-generation immigrant, I understand the struggles of adapting to a new culture while balancing academic and financial responsibilities. Relocating to the U.S. was both an exciting and challenging transition, I had to navigate an unfamiliar education system, manage my tuition and living expenses, and adjust to being far from family support. Without a car, mobility in Houston is difficult, and I have often relied on others or expensive taxi services. However, I have prioritized my education over personal convenience, dedicating my savings to tuition and rent.
My experiences have strengthened my resilience and deepened my passion for using technology to create meaningful change. I believe that UX research, combined with Agile project management, can drive innovation in healthcare, education, and social impact initiatives. My goal is to continue developing solutions that prioritize user needs, accessibility, and inclusivity while mentoring and uplifting other women in STEM.
Receiving this scholarship would allow me to focus on my studies, advance my work in UX research and project management, and continue empowering underrepresented communities through education and technology. With this opportunity, I will keep pushing boundaries and ensuring that technology serves everyone, not just a privileged few.
STEAM Generator Scholarship
Dear scholarship commitee,
Pursuing higher education is often seen as a gateway to success, yet for first-generation immigrants like me, the path is filled with unique challenges. As the first in my family to earn a Master’s in Technology Project Management, I have had to navigate not only the demands of academia but also the complexities of immigration, cultural adaptation, and financial constraints.
Leaving behind my home country to chase my dreams was both exhilarating and daunting. Adjusting to a new culture, education system, and lifestyle was overwhelming, and I quickly realized that being away from family meant facing life’s ups and downs alone. One of the hardest moments was falling sick with no one around to take care of me, something I had never experienced before. Moments like these remind me that while I am pursuing an education, I am also learning resilience and independence in ways I never anticipated.
Financially, the struggle is constant. Houston’s mobility challenges add an additional burden, as public transportation is not a safe or viable option. Without a car, I rely on taxis or the kindness of others for transportation, which is neither sustainable nor practical. However, despite needing a car to ease my daily life, I have prioritized saving for tuition and rent, knowing that education is my ultimate investment. Still, the financial strain remains significant, and scholarship support would be life-changing, helping me cover essential expenses and focus more on my academic and career goals.
Despite these obstacles, I remain driven. My goal is to use my expertise in technology project management to create impactful solutions in the digital space, ensuring technology is accessible, efficient, and user-centered. I want to inspire other first-generation students to break barriers, just as I am striving to do. This scholarship would not only ease my financial burden but also serve as a reminder that my struggles are recognized and that my journey, though difficult, is worth it.
Higher education is more than just a degree; for me, it is a symbol of transformation, perseverance, and hope. It is proof that, despite the hurdles, I am forging a path for myself and future generations, ensuring that those who come after me will have an easier road to success.
Receiving this scholarship would not only provide financial relief but also reaffirm that my hard work and perseverance are paying off. It would allow me to focus more on excelling in my studies and contributing to the field of technology project management without the constant stress of financial constraints. More importantly, it would serve as a stepping stone toward achieving my dreams, helping me build a stable and independent life while proving that first-generation immigrants can overcome barriers and thrive. With this support, I will continue pushing forward, not just for myself, but for those who look up to me as proof that anything is possible with determination and resilience.
Elevate Women in Technology Scholarship
The Power of UX Research: Human-Centered Technology for a Better World
Technology has the potential to bridge gaps, improve lives, and drive social change. One of the most inspiring aspects of technology is its ability to shape user experiences, ensuring that innovations are not just functional but also meaningful and accessible. For me, User Experience (UX) Research is one of the most transformative aspects in technology, as it places human needs at the core of design and development.
During my time as a UX researcher at a bank, I witnessed how customer-driven digital solutions could enhance financial accessibility. I worked on developing a banking application that was not just about transactions but about creating a seamless, intuitive experience for users of all backgrounds, ages and genders. By conducting research and analyzing user behavior, we identified pain points such as complicated navigation, unclear language, and security concerns. Our insights led to a redesign that made banking more accessible- simplifying account management, improving security features, and introducing financial literacy tools. This experience reinforced my belief that technology should be built around real human needs, not just business goals.
Beyond banking, my work extended to shaping other digital products, ensuring that platforms across industries, from e-commerce to healthcare, prioritize usability, accessibility, and efficiency. By listening to users and integrating their feedback, I saw firsthand how thoughtful technology could remove barriers, save time, and ultimately make people’s lives easier.
As a UX researcher and advocate for innovation, I strive to ensure that technology benefits diverse communities. Through this scholarship, I aim to continue advancing inclusive design, ensuring that technology is not only innovative but also ethical, accessible, and empowering for all.
By championing UX research and human-centered design, I believe we can create a future where technology enhances lives and fosters meaningful connections, one digital experience at a time.
