Bio

Hello, I am Tanisha! I am a freshman in high school. I use the pronouns she and her. I am a first-generation student in my family to grow up and study in the USA. I am a determined and hardworking student helping others in my community. I am a four-time national roller skating champion. I enjoy working with other people. I am currently partnering with other students in another country to help improve their figure skating skills. I am an open-minded person. I like to hear other people’s thoughts and ideas. In school projects, I always take charge and ask other people to share their ideas before we make a decision. I am a hardworking person. I tend to find biology challenge. But, I study every day and am able to maintain an A average. I always get great grades and I plan to keep that up. My life goal is to try and help make the world a better place and to help anyone in need. Today, I am working on making a nonprofit charity to benefit people globally. I am a great candidate because of all the time I put into helping others. I am dedicated to education and roller skating. I would like to one day be a lawyer and soon become a senator.

"Don't be afraid. Be focused. Be determined. Be hopeful. Be empowered." Former First Lady Michelle Obama said this quote. I admire Michelle Obama because of her self-confidence and strong character. She is an honest, compassionate, and strong woman and, that is why I admire her. Michelle Obama took office in 2009 when I just turned three. Obama had a guidance counselor who told her that she wouldn't get into Princeton University. Obama stayed true to herself in believing that she would get in. Michelle Obama got into Princeton in the year 1981, proving her guidance counselor wrong. I admire Michelle Obama because of the role model she sets for children and young adults. Obama has taught children of color that it is alright to be different than anyone by sharing her experience of being different. She has also shown young Americans that not everyone is as good as you might think. There are bad people and good people in this country. Former First Lady Michelle Obama has impacted who I am today in many ways. Being a girl and person of color, I used to get bullied by other students. I always cried, thinking no one liked me due to my skin color and my personality. Then, I learned about Michelle Obama. I read multiple stories of her and her childhood stories. Many people teased Obama, including her teacher, who called her a "monkey face." When I heard her story of being bullied, I knew that I had to be true to myself. Listening to the former first lady's story taught me never to doubt myself. People have called me a loser, annoying, and stupid. But, whenever someone says this to me, I think about how Obama stood up to them. Obama has also inspired me to figure out what works out for me. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, she said, “But I needed to figure out how to build my life in a way that works for me.” This dedicates me not to follow what others are doing but to follow what I believe is correct and would be the best for me. For example, I had a group of friends who did essence. They had convinced me to do it but, I knew that it would be best for them, not me. So, I denied their request. In school, when everyone was picking their freshman year classes, my friends did honors biology. I knew that I would fail so, I took an honors class none of my friends took. This quote by Michelle Obama makes me think to myself after every decision, do I make my friends happy or; make myself happy. Michelle Obama has always been my inspiration, and she always will be.
