I will graduate from Goochland High School in May 2024 with a dual enrollment A.S. degree from our local CC. I am very involved in First Robotics, helping to design and build our competition robot. In 2023, our team competed at the FRC World Championships in Houston. My goal is to study Computer Engineering. I would like to participate in research and study abroad. I have grown my interest in engineering by learning CAD, coding languages and 3D printing. Using YouTube, I have built a gaming PC and a handheld gaming system. I am also interested in game design. I am an avid white-water kayaker and have been an adventure camp counselor for the last 4 years. It is hard, long days but I am able to spend them on the river, helping young kids grow their skills and overcome fears. Supporting my community is important to me. For that reason, I volunteer to work on the river, including clean up days, planting and river education. My senior internship is working with a local river paddling company to plan and implement River Safety days, to encourage people to use the river safely. I also serve as a JDRF Youth Ambassador (the national Type 1 diabetes fundraising and advocacy organization). I was diagnosed with T1D when I was six and have successfully lived with the disease for 11 years. I have been active at the JDRF OneWalk for over a decade. Now I participate in the Walk by volunteering to set up and work with new families. I have also been involved with several T1D clinical research trials at the UVA Center for Diabetes Technology. I enjoy being part of the path of progress.
