TLau "Love Fiercely" Scholarship
The most memorable outdoor experience that I could remember is being at summer camp at San Isabel. Enjoying the great outdoors with my friends and taking on different activities that the camp had to offer. I always love waking up early to go on the sunrise hikes or to challenge the polar bear plunge in the lake. In the afternoon, we then headed to our merit bag courses like art, rock climbing, navigation, and so forth. My favorites were taking the classes from the shooting range and climbing the sides of the mountain in the rock-climbing class. Then, we would end it all off with a great bonfire with all the scout troops all together telling stories, singing songs, and performing skits. As an Eagle Scout, this experience has shaped my life to be more outgoing and adventurous along with helping others and working hard to achieve my dreams. There is nothing better than going out and getting hurt from exploring the outdoors! Whether it’s a splinter or scrape on the knee, it marks a great adventure. As a nursing student I like to help take care of and repair people who also have the passion and love for the outdoors so that they can continue to pursue their grand adventures. As much fun as it is being reckless and outgoing, I like to be cautious of people’s safety as I was on a hike with my friends I would carry a first aid kit. Because that is what exploring is having fun with people you know and if anything happens you would be prepared to have their back. Also, as a nurse I understand that I will have patients that I will recommend enjoying the outdoors to help with things like stress, depression, or from recovering from injuries by keeping the body in motion stays in motion. What made me want to be a nurse all started when my troop went on a hike in the mountains, till one of my friends landed down from the rock wrong, ending up spraining there leg. Thankfully I quickly bandaged them up and made simple splint for them till we safely got back down the mountain. In the end they got there leg cast and over time it healed up, and he was able to continue to join us on more hikes. After that I wanted to support other adventures to continue exploring and doing the activities they love to do.
Wicked Fan Scholarship
I am a fan of the Wicked movie for its intricate costumes, graphic effects, and its great story telling. The costumes and make-up are not only safer for the actors from the original movie but also has a modern style compared to the Wizard of OZ film, where they ended up with paint poisoning or having to wear heavy costumes making it hard for them to perform. The use of graphic effects in Wicked made it even more nostalgic, from the talking animals to the practical set itself, making scenes of the movie feel emotional, epic, and beyond defying gravity. I also love how they portrayed the story of the characters from how it all starts as enemies to building a strong friendship. I particularly like the ending with Galinda and Elphaba making their own choices, especially keeping Elphaba alive instead of killing her in the end. The Wicked movie is phenomenal, but there is nothing better than a classic film. Although the silver slippers are the original pair in the book, I prefer the red ruby slippers instead, as it stood out and looks more unique. It is always good to see a musical in this time of age.
Taylor Swift Fan Scholarship
If I had to choose one song out of the twelfth album The Life of A Showgirl, it would have to be The Fate of Ophelia. Not only for its upbeat vibes but also the story she tells from Ophelia that usually ends in tragedy. This song in particular is moving as it highlights the famous Tayler Swift being pulled out of her grave by her partner from all the stress, tension, and pressure. It then shows her true vulnerability that contrasts the showgirl who has to be perfect. This song is motivating for me as I secluded myself in my own tower focusing only on my college work and what I need to do for the future. Till my family pulled me out and reminded me to enjoy what is given now in the present. As much as we could go back in time, we need to cherish what we have now and live in the moment. This song motivates me to prioritize the balance in my own life moving forward. Yes, I need to focus on my school work and prepare for what I need to do but also make time for my self to be with love ones.
