Tom LoCasale Developing Character Through Golf Scholarship
The biggest life lesson I have learned through golf is the importance of patience, discipline, and mental control when things are not going the way I planned. Golf is a game where even a small mistake can cost you a stroke or change the outcome of a round, and it forces you to accept that perfection is not realistic. Early on, I used to get frustrated after a bad shot or a rough hole, but over time I learned that carrying that frustration into the next shot only makes things worse. Instead, golf has taught me how to reset mentally, stay focused on the present shot, and understand that one mistake does not determine the entire round. Another important lesson I have learned is that improvement takes time and consistency. In golf, there are no shortcuts to becoming better. You cannot rush skill development, whether it is your swing, short game, or putting. It takes repeated practice, adjustment, and learning from failure. This has helped me realize that progress in anything worthwhile in life is usually slow and steady rather than instant. I have learned to appreciate small improvements instead of expecting immediate success, and that mindset has helped me become more patient with myself. Golf has also taught me accountability. There is no one else to blame when you hit a bad shot or miss an easy putt. It is just you, your decisions, and your execution. This has helped me become more honest with myself about my strengths and weaknesses. Instead of making excuses, I have learned to analyze what went wrong and think about how I can improve next time. That kind of responsibility is something I will carry into other areas of my life. In the future, I plan to use these lessons in many different ways. In school, I want to stay focused on long-term progress instead of getting discouraged by individual grades or assignments. If I struggle in a subject, I will treat it like a bad hole in golf, something to learn from, not something that defines my ability. In my career and personal life, I also want to apply the same mindset by staying calm under pressure and not allowing setbacks to control my attitude or decisions. Overall, golf has taught me that success is not about avoiding mistakes, but about how you respond to them. The ability to stay patient, think clearly, and keep moving forward after failure is something I will continue to use throughout my life.

My name is Trevor Kral, and I am currently a senior at Silver Lake High School. Growing up on a farm has played a big role in shaping who I am today and has influenced the direction I want to take in my future. Being around agriculture my whole life has taught me the value of hard work, responsibility, and dedication. I plan to attend Southeast Community College to study Ag Production and Management, additionally I will minor in Precision Technology, because I want to continue building on the experiences I’ve already gained and turn my passion into a career. Growing up on a farm, I was always around equipment, and technology. Whether it was helping with fieldwork, fixing equipment, or handling responsibilities around the farm, I learned early on that hard work and consistency are important. I also learned that farming isn’t just about working hard, it’s about working smart. Over time, I became more interested in how technology is changing agriculture and making it more efficient. Precision agriculture stood out to me because it allows farmers to use GPS systems, data, prescriptions, yield mapping, and advance equipment to make better decisions and improve their operations. Currently I have been working at Titan Machinery and had the opportunity to follow a precision specialist. This experience gave me hands-on exposure to installing, calibrating, and troubleshooting precision equipment, while also showing me how technology is used in real-world agriculture. I learned how important it is to be accurate and detail-oriented, and I saw how data is used to help farmers make better decisions. Working alongside an experienced specialist helped me build confidence, improve my skills, and gain a better understanding of the industry I want to be part of. I know that to be successful in this field, I will need to stay focused, ask questions, and continue learning. Agriculture and precision technology are always changing, so being willing to adapt and learn new things is important. My background of growing up on a farm has already given me a strong work ethic and taught me how to take responsibility. I am someone who doesn’t mind long days, and I understand that getting the job done right matters more than anything. I also pay attention to detail, which is very important when working with precision equipment. Another important trait I have is my willingness to learn from others. I know that I don’t know everything, and I am always open to advice and guidance from people who have more experience. Whether it’s in the classroom or on the job, I am willing to put in the effort to improve and grow. I take pride in my work, and I want to be known as someone who is dependable and can be counted on to get the job done. Overall, growing up on a farm has helped prepare me for the future I want in agriculture. With my education at Southeast Community College, hands-on experience at Titan Machinery, and the values I have learned throughout my life, I am confident that I can build a successful career in precision agriculture. I am excited to continue learning, working hard, and building a future in an industry that has always been a part of my life. Thank you for taking the time to read about my goals, experiences and for considering my future plans. Sincerely Trevor Kral
