Bio

My name is Treazure Williams I am a 2024 high school graduate student of Ursuline Academy New Orleans. I will be attending Spelman College in Fall 2024 majoring in Political Science with the plans of entering Law School in 2028. I am most passionate about being a part of a system that restores order to the Criminal Justice System. I believe that there's a lot of disparities and inequities but there is also a system that want better, fair, and equal for the people. I am a great candidate foe this scholarship because it will me accomplish my goals of becoming an Attorney while helping and giving back to my community. I will be an extraordinary student but also one who exhibits the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in my career.

Adversity began for me very early on in my life. My story begins with being the youngest of three, born prematurely to a teen mother and incarcerated father. One may believe that due to those circumstances it would have been usual for a grandparent to step in from either side of my parents, but even that part of my story is unusual. By the age of one I'd lost both my paternal grandparents. My grandfather through senseless violence was murdered and my grandmother had been incarcerated for her own acts of violence. As a school age kid with so many odds stacked against me, I flourished in the urban public school system. I attended Kipp Ernest Morial Middle School, where I reigned as the Inaugural Homecoming Queen, Founded Black Girl Magic Organization, was the President of The Future Business Leaders Association, and Alpha Honor Roll. I've still managed to maintain stellar academic achievements. I am a 2024 high school graduate of the historical Ursuline Academy of New Orleans, where I have been recognized as an esteem leader throughout the school and my community. I received recognition for Beta Honor Roll, Mu Alpha Theta, National Honor Society, National High School Scholar Society, Principal’s Award, Sister Damian Aycock Award, and the St. Angela Award (the highest award achieved by a student at Ursuline). Additionally, I served as an officer of the school’s Executive Board Cabinet, Retreat Facilitator, School’s Ambassador, Community Outreach Coordinator, and the Basketball and, Track and Field Team Manager. I was accepted into the Congress of Future Medical Leaders and after completion of the program was inducted into the Society of Torch and Laurel. I am a member of the City of New Orleans Children and Youth Planning Youth Advisory Board under the leadership of the first African American female Mayor Latoya Cantrell I am a youth mentor for Healing the Princess Within non-profit organization. I was accepted and completed Tulane University’s pre-college program, where I received a certificate of completion in Mysteries of Medicine. I am a 2023 Forever a Lady Debutant for the Potter’s House of Dallas, Texas under the leadership of Bishop T.D Jakes and First Lady Serita Jakes. I was recognized by Divine Foundation non-profit organization for exemplifying power within the youth in the City of New Orleans. This organization featured my accomplishments on billboards throughout the City of New Orleans. My recent and most proud accomplishment is being consecrated as a Licensed Minister at The Abundant Life Tabernacle Full Gospel Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Tyrone G. Jefferson Jr. This achievement has made me the first female youth minister of this community led church that has been in existence for 29 years. My life's challenges taught me resilience. I am the epitome of you are not your circumstances. Statistics would say that I probably would not graduate high school. I have not only graduate high school, but I have been accepted into my dream college, Spelman College. I will be attending Spelman for the next 4 years and then enroll in law school. I believe that there's a lot of inequities and disparities and I want to be a part of the change. In the future, through my organization that I am the Founder of, "TreazureYou LLC," which mission is to create joy and justice. I will offer my law services to those who need representation and are not fortunate enough to afford.

Even though my life circumstances were not the best, I did not let it define me as an individual. Statistics would say I would not have even graduated high school. I defied the odds. I actually superseded the odds. Adversity has shaped in such way that I developed a self-efficacy mentality. There is no stopping me. I take on challenges with the knowing that I am capable, and all things are possible. I would say to anyone who face adversity to never give up. Instead of letting the challenge beat you, you take control, and allow it to build you. Adversity builds character and can help you become more resilient. Remember everyone faces challenges but it's not how you come in it's how you come out. Strive to come out stronger and better.

While in Jr. High school I founded Black Girl Magic. It was a space for the students to not only learn and explore who they are, but also be a space for the struggles they may have been dealing with or witness due to "being black". Being black to means embodying a multitude of colors, experiences, struggles, unique culture, and a joy of just existing. On the other hand, I chose an HBCU because I recognize the highly active alumni networks and strong welcoming campus culture. Overall, adding to the success rate of such university is what I will strive to do to pave the way for those black girls following me. I chose Spelman because in 1881 it was founded as the first female Baptist Seminary School in Atlanta.
