I was born and raised in a poor countryside in Vietnam, where educational opportunities are limited. My parents only finished 9th grade and then had to quit to help the family. Life was already difficult, but it became even more challenging when my mother had lung disease and cancer, and my grandparents had both passed away, leaving my family with no other support.
When coming to America, my family's journey was not easy. The first year, only my father went there alone. One year later, after overcoming her illness, my mother was able to reunite with her family. My parents didn't know English, and the whole family had to live in a small basement with relatives, starting from scratch.
However, my parents always worked tirelessly and sacrificed everything so that I could have better educational opportunities. Those difficulties have taught me to be strong, persevere and appreciate every opportunity I have. I am determined to study hard to change the future of myself and my family, as well as become a source of pride for those who have always tried for me.

For me, faith is not a distant concept, but something that has helped me overcome the greatest losses in life. When I was young, I had to face the passing of my grandparents - people who had a huge influence on my childhood and the way I saw the world. At the same time, my mother also faced health problems, making me realize early on that life is not always as stable and easy as I expected.
Those events left me feeling empty and disoriented. There are times when I wonder why difficult things happen to my family. But it was during that time that I began to form my own faith. I no longer look at things in a negative light, but have learned to believe that every challenge has meaning, and every loss has a lesson.
Faith helps me learn to accept the things I cannot change and appreciate what I have. When my grandparents passed away, I not only felt sadness, but also realized the value of family and time. When my mother had health problems, I understood that I needed to be stronger, not only for myself but also for my family. Those experiences made me grow up faster, and gradually become a more responsible person with my life.
My faith also deeply influenced my studies. Instead of feeling pressured or afraid of failure, I learned to persevere and trust the process. I understand that education is not only a path to a good job, but also a way for me to build a more stable future for myself and my family. In particular, when I chose to pursue accounting, I realized more and more that knowledge and discipline would be the foundation to help me achieve my long-term goals.
In addition to my faith, it was my losses and family circumstances that motivated me to pursue higher education. I don't want the difficulties my family has gone through to become barriers, but want to turn them into motivation. I want to create a better future where I can take care of my family, support my mother, and become a strong support for my loved ones.
Pursuing college for me was not just an academic step, but also a way for me to prove to myself that I could overcome adversity. I want to learn, grow and become a person capable of creating stability not only for myself but also for those around me.
This scholarship will help me get closer to that goal. It not only eases the financial burden but is also a recognition of the journey I have been on. I believe that with faith, perseverance and determination, I will continue to grow and build a better future.
Looking back, I realize that my losses did not weaken me, but made me stronger. Faith has helped me get up when I wanted to fall, and keep going even when the path ahead was unclear. And that has shaped me into the person I am today.

One of the biggest challenges I experienced was adjusting to a completely new life and study environment when moving to the United States. It's not just a change in language, but also a difference in culture, learning style and communication style. At first, I felt lost, disoriented and often doubted myself.
The biggest difficulty for me is the language barrier. Even though I had studied English before, when I entered the classroom, I could barely keep up with the lecture. I don't dare to speak out because I'm afraid of making mistakes and being judged. The first tests had unexpected results, making me feel disappointed and pressured. However, instead of giving up, I decided to face the problem seriously.
The first strategy I applied was to improve my English every day. I start with small things like watching videos, listening to podcasts, and jotting down new vocabulary. I actively practice speaking by joining clubs at school and starting conversations with friends. At first, I spoke very slowly and made many mistakes, but I realized that mistakes are part of the learning process. Thanks to perseverance, I gradually became more confident in communication.
Besides, I also changed my studying method. I learned how to manage my time more effectively by planning each week, breaking down my goals to make them easier to achieve. When I don't understand the lesson, I boldly ask the teacher or friends instead of remaining silent like before. I also take advantage of free resources such as libraries and online learning sites to reinforce my knowledge.
Another important skill I developed was the ability to adapt and stay positive. There are times when I feel tired and want to give up, but I always remind myself of why I started. My family sacrificed a lot so that I could have the opportunity to study in a better environment, and I don't want to disappoint them. I learned to see failure as a lesson instead of an obstacle.
After a period of continuous effort, I have achieved proud results. My grades improved significantly, I became more confident when presenting my ideas in front of the class, and I began participating in many extracurricular activities. More importantly, I realized that I am stronger than I ever thought.
This experience not only helped me overcome difficulties but also shaped the person I am today. I have learned perseverance, the spirit of self-study and the ability to adapt in any situation. These skills will continue to accompany me on my future educational and career path.
To me, success is not about not having difficulties, but about daring to face and overcome them. And it was the journey of overcoming that challenge that became the greatest achievement of my life.
Big Picture Scholarship
The movie that has had the biggest impact on my life is The Pursuit of Happyness. This is not only a touching story about father-son love, but also the journey of overcoming adversity full of resilience of the main character - Chris Gardner. The movie left me with profound lessons about perseverance, faith, and the value of never giving up on your dreams.
In the film, Chris Gardner faces countless difficulties: unemployment, losing his home, and having to raise his children alone in extremely poor circumstances. There were times when he and his son had to sleep in public restrooms, but he still did not give up his goal of becoming a stock broker. What impressed me most was that even though life seemed to push him into a dead end, he still maintained faith in himself and continued to work hard every day. That image made me think a lot about how I face challenges.
I saw myself in the difficulties that Chris went through, especially when I had to adapt to a new life in America. There were times when I felt pressured, lonely and wanted to give up, but the movie reminded me that success does not come from ease, but from whether or not you dare to keep trying when things become difficult. The famous quote from the movie: "Don't ever let somebody tell you you can't do something" has become a great source of motivation for me.
The movie also helped me understand that education and opportunity are important factors that can change a person's life. Chris Gardner jumped at the opportunity for an unpaid internship, knowing the risks were huge. That made me realize that sometimes, to achieve great things, we have to accept sacrifices and step out of our comfort zone. Therefore, I appreciate the opportunity to study and pursue higher education even more.
In the future, I want to apply the spirit that the movie conveys to my journey. I will continue to make efforts in studying, especially in the field of accounting that I am aiming for, to build a solid foundation for my career. At the same time, I also want to use what I learn to help my family and make a positive contribution to the community, just like how Chris Gardner overcame difficulties to create a better life for his son.
For me, The Pursuit of Happyness is not just a movie, but a lasting inspiration. It reminds me that no matter how difficult the situation is, as long as I don't give up and keep trying, I can still achieve my dreams. This is also the spirit that I brought with me when applying for scholarships - always persevere, make efforts and believe in the future ahead.
Scorenavigator Financial Literacy Scholarship
From a young age, I was soon aware of the importance of finances in life, especially when my family had to carefully balance spending to ensure all essential needs. When I came to America to study, I understood more clearly the value of money and the necessity of personal financial management. As an international student, I not only face academic pressure but also have to think more about living costs, tuition fees, and how to use money appropriately.
Initially, I did not have much knowledge about finance. I used to spend emotionally and didn't know how to plan a budget or save long-term. However, over time, I gradually changed my habits. I started learning how to track monthly expenses, dividing money into necessary items such as food, study and savings. I also educate myself about basic financial concepts such as saving, credit, and investing through books, the internet, and real-life lessons.
One of my most important experiences was realizing that finance is not just about making money, but also about managing and using money wisely. I learned that small daily decisions, like saving a small amount of money or avoiding unnecessary spending, can make a big difference in the future. At the same time, I also understand that financial knowledge is an essential skill that anyone needs to achieve stability and independence in life.
In the future, I plan to pursue accounting to gain a deeper understanding of the financial system and how it operates. I want to use the knowledge I have learned to not only manage my personal finances better but also support my family and community. I hope to help those around me, especially young people or those new to the US like me, better understand how to manage money, avoid financial mistakes and build a solid foundation for the future.
In addition, I also hope to contribute to raising awareness about financial education in the community. I believe that many people, especially students and immigrants, do not have adequate access to basic financial knowledge. Therefore, I want to participate in educational activities or organize sharing sessions to help people better understand how to budget, save, and use credit effectively.
The scholarship I am applying for will be an important opportunity to help me continue to pursue my education and personal development. Not only does it help ease the financial burden, but it is also recognition for my efforts. I commit to making the most of this opportunity to study, cultivate knowledge and skills, thereby building a stable and meaningful future.
In short, my personal experiences with finance have helped me become more mature and understand the value of money management. I believe that with a solid educational foundation and determination, I can create a better future for myself, my family and my community.
Hazel & Olive Sweet Horizons Scholarship
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the journey of adapting to a completely new environment when I came to the US to study. When I first arrived, not only did I encounter a language barrier, but I also had to get used to a completely different culture, learning style, and communication style than before. The first days of school, I felt lost and self-conscious because I couldn't express my thoughts fluently. There were times when I wanted to give up, because everything seemed too difficult and unfamiliar.
However, that challenge taught me how to persevere and keep trying. I started to be more proactive in learning English, participating in school activities, and boldly communicating with friends and teachers, even though I still made mistakes sometimes. I realized that mistakes are not failures, but part of the learning process. Gradually, I became more confident, not only in studying but also in daily life. I learned how to adapt, how to overcome fear, and how to believe in myself.
This challenge has shaped me into a strong, flexible and progressive person. I understand the value of effort and appreciate every opportunity I have. I also realized that, when faced with difficulties, the most important thing is not the situation but how you react to it. It is this mindset that helps me keep moving forward, even when I encounter new obstacles.
Pursuing higher education is an important next step in my developmental journey. I look forward to studying in a more specialized environment, where I can expand my knowledge, practice skills, and explore my potential. As a person oriented towards the accounting industry, I understand that education not only helps me have a stable career but also equips me with analytical skills, logical thinking and responsibility at work.
More importantly, I want to use my educational background to create positive value for the community. As someone who has experienced difficulty integrating, I hope to be able to help other young people, especially international students, so that they do not feel lonely on their journey. I believe that everyone can make a change, no matter how small, if they have enough knowledge and determination.
The scholarship I am applying for is not only financial support, but also a great source of motivation to help me continue to pursue my dream. It will help me reduce the burden of expenses and focus entirely on my studies and personal development. I pledge to use this opportunity in a worthy way, constantly striving to become a better version of myself.
Looking back on the past journey, I am proud that I did not give up. The difficulties I have experienced are no longer barriers, but have become the foundation to help me grow. And I believe that, with determination and belief in education, I will continue to progress further on the path I have chosen, building a good future not only for myself but also for those around me.
Ms Ida Mae’s College Bound Scholarship
In life, there are people who are born with many opportunities, but there are also people who have to create their own opportunities. I belong to the second group. My educational journey did not begin with advantages, but with challenges — from my family situation, my mother's health, to adapting to a completely new country. However, it is those things that have shaped who I am today: resilient, grateful and always eager to improve.
I was born and raised in Vietnam in a family that did not have high educational conditions. My parents only studied up to 9th grade, and life mainly revolved around making a living. My mother once suffered from lung disease and cancer, causing my family to fall into an extremely difficult period both mentally and financially. When our grandparents passed away, we had almost no support left. Those experiences made me realize that education is not just an option — it is the only way to change the future.
When I came to America, I started again from almost zero. The first year, I only lived with my father in a small basement, while my mother could not come over due to health problems. My parents didn't know English, so everything — from paperwork, to communication, to adjusting to society — became much more difficult. As a new student, I also faced a language barrier and a feeling of being lost. There were times when I didn't understand the lesson in class, didn't dare talk to my friends, and felt like I was falling behind.
But instead of giving up, I chose to move forward. I started trying to learn English every day, actively participate in school activities, and gradually integrate into the new environment. My first high school in America was not only where I learned knowledge, but also where I learned how to be confident, how to communicate, and how to believe in myself. Those small steps helped me change a lot.
During that process, I realized I was particularly interested in the field of accounting and finance. To many people, these may just be dry numbers, but to me, they represent stability, transparency and opportunity. I've seen my family struggle because of a lack of financial literacy — from managing money to accessing systems in the US. That made me want to pursue accounting, not only to have a stable career, but also to help people like my family.
In the future, I want to use my knowledge to support immigrant communities and low-income families. Many of them work very hard but do not understand taxes, credit or financial management, leaving them vulnerable. I want to be able to help them — whether through providing tax guidance, explaining financial issues, or hosting free knowledge-sharing sessions.
Besides, I also hope to contribute to creating a fairer financial system. I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to access financial information and services in a transparent and easy-to-understand way. When people understand money, they can control their lives better, and thereby create positive change not only for themselves but also for their families and communities.
For me, education is not only a personal path, but also a social responsibility. I not only learn for myself, but also learn so I can help others. The difficulties I went through did not weaken me, but on the contrary, helped me become stronger and have clearer goals.
This scholarship is not only financial support, but also an opportunity for me to continue my journey, a journey not only towards personal success, but also towards equity and development for the community. I believe that, with effort and determination, I can turn my experiences into motivation to create positive changes in society.

One of the biggest challenges in my life was when my family moved to America to start a new life. My family comes from a small village in the countryside and my mother only studied until 9th grade. Previously, their lives were very difficult, they worked 7 days a week and they only had a day or two off when there were big holidays like Tet. Due to overwork, my mother got lung disease and cancer while in Vietnam and that forced her to stay in Vietnam and get treatment. So it was just my father and I who came first and a year later my mother came. When they had the opportunity to go to America, my parents saw it as a great hope to change the future for their children and family.
However, starting over in a new country is not easy. When I first came to America, my parents did not know English and were not used to life here. Simple things like communicating, finding a job, or understanding documents become very difficult. My family had to live with her in a small basement downstairs. The space is very small, living conditions are limited, but that's all my family has.
Seeing my parents struggle to make money every day makes me think a lot. They have to work hard to be able to make ends meet and take care of me to continue going to school. Even though they encountered many difficulties in communication and life, they never complained to me. Their sacrifices and efforts become my greatest source of motivation.
I understand that my parents gave up a lot of things so that I could have a better future. Adapting to a new environment and new language is not easy. There are times when I feel pressured and tired and want to give up everything, but when I think of my parents I feel empowered to move on.
To overcome those difficulties, I tried to focus on some studies, besides I worked part-time to help my parents to some extent with less financial pressure. I understand that my success is not only for myself but also in response to the silent sacrifices of my parents
These experiences have helped me become a lot more mature. I learned perseverance, gratitude, and the will to never give up. Even though I have an unfavorable situation, I believe that with my efforts and determination, I can rebuild a better future for my family.
My family's story is not only a story of hardship but also a story of hope, sacrifice and love of parents for their children. Those are the things that help me get stronger every day. I cannot choose the circumstances and where I was born when I started but I am sure that I can choose where I will go in the future. I hope that in the future I can succeed and make my parents proud to repay their gratitude.
