Personally, I want to attend Lincoln University because of how HBCUs make me feel and how important they are now and will continue to be in the future. See, for me, HBCUS make me feel like I'm a part of something bigger, they make me feel like we as a group can accomplish anything as long as we are together, and even more than that, HBCUS motivate me to continue to try to be an example of black excellence every day. Lincoln really caught my eye because of its history as the nation's first degree-granting HBCU, as well as because it was near home. additionally the history of Lincoln being the first degree-granting HBCU makes me really want to continue that legacy on into the future and become not only an outstanding student of Lincoln University but eventually an outstanding alumnus as well. Additionally, one of my biggest dreams in life is to become an engineer. This is because ever since I was a kid i've always loved building and designing things as well as completing problems with unique solutions. Civil engineering always stood out to me because of a game I used to play that allowed me to make my own city and build my own roads, bridges, and tunnels. This was really when I realized that something I loved doing for fun could be used in the real world and could be turned into a legitimate job. Furthermore, at Lincoln, I can pursue a degree in cehmistry which would allow me to become a Chemical Engineer, while also minoring in an Engineering Science Degree, which would allow me to learn and have experience with other Engineering fields like Electrical and Computer Engineering or Civil and Environmental Engineering. This type of curriculum is especially interesting to me because it not only allows me to chase the dream of mine that is becoming a Civil engineer, but it also allows me to be versatile in the engineering field I decide to work in, which affords me more options and opportunities in the future. In addition to that, I have a vision of the man I want to be when I grow up and personally I know that Lincoln and HBCUS in general are one of the only places in the world I can go as a black man that will not only encourage me to become that confident, self assured, and powerful man I want to be but additionally, I know that they will actually make a concerted and targeted effort to mold me into that man so that I can be the best version of myself that I can be.
