I want to prove that I can pursue in STEM as an artist. My goal is to be a medical illustrator and earn a PhD in Neuroscience. I understand that it’s a huge ambition coming from an Army Reserve vet. Although, I like to believe that it’s perfect timing for my child to witness how hard i work each semester despite the challenges.

    Animation is an extraordinary skill for story telling and in this case, it can amplify the curiosity of scientific documentation. Sometimes, the subject can be difficult to understand by the printed work to other individuals, and what better way to explain it with our strengths in art. We’re driven to illustrate and then animate the science with passion. For almost a century, there are films that have been able to validate emotions through storytelling along with music, writing, and visual expression. To me, it is possible to do the same with the scientific inspiration and fact. The softwares such as Autodesk Maya or NetApp are examples as they manage the massive amounts of data that needed to make animation come to life. Of course, it takes a team of highly skilled people to act as translators from scientific backgrounds to work together, record, create concepts, and have a hypothesis to conduct a project to further education. I’m driven to study Alzheimer’s and the people who are suffering from it. It’s a horrible disease that impacts more on the patient, yet their loved ones are often clueless on what they’re seeing or experiencing. With sympathy and growing knowledge of neurology, I’d like to document several consented cases and create a better understanding of Alzheimer’s. It is a complicated factor. But with a skilled team, we can use the animation program(s) to translate the struggles of Alzheimer’s and other neurological diseases to further education. Art and science play important roles in my life and I hope to be a positive encouragement for future doctors and science lovers.
