Bold Joy Scholarship
To me, joy is a feeling of happiness that couples with a feeling of contentment. Joy is a stronger emotion than happiness that is harder to find for most people. I believe that joy becomes easier to find/enjoy as we grow older and become wiser. As we learn what is truly important in life, we learn to focus on the positive things, the important moments that bring a smile to our faces- that is joy. When we feel joy, we are also able to feel greater sense of peace. Feeling joy means that I am living in the moment, feeling as if the world stops, or at least becomes insignificant enough so that I may focus only on what matters to me.
I have learned to find joy in the little things in life. I love to be outdoors taking walks. Many people do the same, admire the scenery and keep walking. I, on the other hand, will stop constantly so to relish in my surroundings. I will sit and watch a waterfall flowing for several minutes, smiling all the while. My husband will stand behind me and smile watching me because he knows that I'm bringing joy into my life, which in turn, also brings joy into his. To find joy is to know that we must slow down and savor our current experiences.
