Bio

Growing up in a single-parent, low-income family household, I can speak from experience, that life has so many struggles to offer. I come from an endless line of people in my family who have allowed their environments to shape their futures. At an early age, I was able to understand that every hardship placed in your path will help you to grow, especially if you take a positive approach to it. Therefore, my appreciation concerning those challenges has allowed me to mold into an individual who is pushed by strength and perseverance. My life struggles have also brought a sparked light to the passion I have for nursing, as well as serving those in the community around me.I have discovered a deep sense of compassion for individuals who are hurting and are in need. Not only will nursing school give me the chance to better people’s lives by improving their health, but it will also grant me the opportunity to fulfill my aspirations of spreading love & compassion to all those individuals in need. No one is a more equipped recipient of these elements than someone such as myself, who has battled continuous burdens & has lived a life of unexpected uncertainties that accompany realities such as health and wellness complications. I want to be adamant that if I were to be awarded a scholarship towards my attendance at Concordia University of Texas nursing program, I would not only give my best efforts and derive all that I could from my opportunity but I would also create an environment with the knowledge I am given at this university to become the best nurse for the community I serve.

I have a amazing passion for my career as a future nurse. Academically I strive to maintain straight ‘A’s as a student with genuine dedication for nursing. There are a few qualities and characteristics I value mostly about myself and the is that I am always confident. No matter what obstacles I am faced with I always maintains positive conduct during uncertain times at work and in my personal life. Another attribute of my personality is that I am always able to showcase great composure during my interviews when I am face with a opportunity at work. My enthusiasm shows how passionate I am about healthcare and I naturally showcase enthusiasm about the tasks that await for me. My main goal is to be a person who also has the ability to be a team player. I incorporates my analytical skills and encompass the ability to identify and solve problems as well. Last year, I worked while pregnant and carried my son to full term, at the same time I was going to school and working full time hours during the Covid-19 pandemic . I was astonished by how I was able to be a pregnant single mother and still graduate college with two degrees while still maintaining a cumulative GPA level of 3.5 out of 4.0. The following year, I was accepted into nursing school and was notified that I will be starting in January 2022. My progress towards achieving these goals has always been my perseverance to succeed. As long as I have worked I have made sure that I continue to be persistent on becoming a registered nurse. I know that my EMT and healthcare skills are beyond impeccable and my standards are high for myself. I want to succeed and it’s genuinely beautiful to my growth as a student throughout the years. If I was given the opportunity, I feel I would be an amazing recipient of this award. I can not think of anyone less deserving. My passion is to take care of others. I don’t hesitate to always be at the forefront to help people especially my family and also now I am more determined to graduate nursing school in order to give my son, Amirio, a better life. I’ve watched myself climb out of the most debilitating circumstances and through and through I continue to give to the healthcare field, to my staff and also to my family. I believe this is a moment for me to give back to myself.

I grew up seeing my friends & community members die from gun violence, urging my younger brother toward positive role models, to prevent it from happening to him. Hassani Bell, took my advice & enrolled at the Social Justice Academy at San Leandro High School, performed spoken word before landing a scholarship to attend San Francisco State University. At just 18 years old, he joined a 2016 hunger strike to preserve & grow its historic College of Ethnic Studies, gaining national attention. On August 28th, 2021, Hassani was shot 10 times & within those ten times twice in the back of his head, while just getting a haircut and his murder became my life’s mission. Me and Hassani promised we would graduate college together. Since this tragedy has occurred, I have moved to preserve my brother’s social justice legacy by working to establish scholarships at his former schools where his impact is already felt. University officials from SF State & San Leandro High School Annually will give this award. I have held a memorial at SF State & launched a GoFundMe for funeral expenses & scholarship proceeds. My goal every year is to remind people not only who loved him & knew him but the people who took him from me that he lives through my accomplishments. I want to become a nurse & raise awareness about gun violence by providing resources for our youth as a mentor. I want to save people who embody the spirit of my little brother Hassani Bell as well as complete our promise to one another & graduate college as a RN. I will be starting the BSN program Jan. 2022 at Concordia University Texas.
    Bold Patience Matters Scholarship
Being patient is one of the most difficult tasks that anyone can ask of someone. In our technologically advanced world, we are so used to living fast paced lifestyles that we forget to slow down every once in awhile. We see the lack of patience that people have everyday: speeding tickets, texting while driving, etc. Dangerous results occur constantly just because people can’t wait to do their desired task. One example is using a cell phone while driving a car. Some people cannot wait until they finish driving to make a phone call or send a text and by doing this, it increases the risk of harming other people. On the other hand, patience has many positive benefits that people fail to recognize. Every year, the New England Patriots are both criticized and hailed for their strategies in the NFL Draft. They are seen as a patient team by trading down picks into later rounds while other teams are fighting to get their top picks. By staying patient and trading down, the Patriots picked up valuable college players at reasonable prices. Instead of fighting for the first picks, they waited their turn and took players that they would develop over the years into quality players. This is just one example that elucidates the importance of patience but sports teams are catching on to the fact that there are many opportunities out there waiting to happen. Ultimately, patience keeps us relaxed to the point where we are not overwhelmed by the constant rush of everyday society. Self-control and forbearance are important qualities that moral human beings possess and for us to remain happy we need to accept the fact that “patience is a virtue.”

If I tried hard enough, I could most likely will myself to live off of sweet tea; the smooth sensation of the tea was a compliment to countless nights spent alone, captivated by my school work. Every soul is made unique by their own personalized identity; and I have been especially fortunate to have control over my own. And consequently, I have fallen in love with a beverage. Since I became aware, I was always asked “what I wanted to be when I grow up.” The answer always came so quickly; like a predator’s instinct to hunt, I want to and have always and do want to become a nurse. The event most influencing this desire was my meniscus tear. I was sent to Dr. Dhanota for treatment, devastated, and left wondering if I would ever play sports again. Dr. Dhanota is a miracle worker –– my knee was healed in time for ninth grade dance recital — and through this time decided I will forever work to become one of the top nurses in the nation. I have dreamed of becoming that nurse and doing so in my home state of California and knowing since ninth grade that I can do just that through Concordia University Texas - Accelerated BSN program is nothing short of the most amazing possibility I am able to fathom. There is nothing in this world I desire more than to receive this amazing scholarship that seems to specifically compliment my future. My whole self is committed to earning this scholarship by any means necessary; I am fully invested in the program and completing myself by becoming an registered nurse . I am a product of my own parents and their gritty personalities, they are who I look to for guidance by words or actions. I am able to understand Spanish as a side product of hard work in school. I offer multiple hours a week to my church and often participate in community trash pickup. I’ve made myself unique by working hard to overachieve in multiple areas rather than being complacent with my gifts in medicine ; in short, I value my brain and I would far rather continue countering the stereotype of being a girl from Oakland by fulfilling my dream of becoming a nurse. Despite what a person may accomplish in a lifetime they owe everything to their heritage. A person’s diversity, especially cultural, often motivates one to accomplish. Culture is something either inherited or created by a group, it can be personal or representative of a group, like a reputation greatly contributing to identity. The more one can identify with, the more dynamic one’s reputation becomes and more plentiful opportunities become. Such a concept place great importance in involvement in communities and an embracing of heritage. Culture both makes and influences who and what a person becomes. As a nurse, I will work to extend commonalities as a means to bringing people closer. I will leave a great legacy through relations with every person I encounter. Alone we are nothing, but together everyone is everything and able to change anything.

In the world today, most youths believe that becoming successful is about how much money one makes at a certain point. Still, it is contrary, and that to become successful is about the number of lives you have impacted and the differences you have brought to their lives. Yearning to make a difference to leave a mark is the best option for society and the best way I can impact my community. Alongside fame, impacting other people's lives opens the gate for positive impacts on our own lives as well, such as making us happy, improving our self-esteem, and instilling a greater sense of purpose in our lives today. We may be making mistakes thinking that we are bringing an impact on society, and therefore this paper will explain what I have done to make my community a better place. I have helped make my community a better place by helping the less fortunate students achieve their dreams. Though I have no enough funds to so, I have used my leadership skills to source out funds from the national and county governments to achieve these goals. Besides, I have sourced out some of the Non-Governmental organizations to assist me in the same. All these I have done are to benefit the less-fortunate students who at one point will grow up and uplift the economy of the community and assist their fellows who will not be able at that time. In my community, therefore, in line with helping the less fortunate, I have organized charitable events to support the less-fortunate children. These events are different themes and ideas; some bring to an end gender based violence, sexual harassment, early pregnancies, girl child, and boy child education. All these are challenges facing our youths as they grow up. Besides, these activities help improve their skills when they interact with different intellectuals and personnel. My main aim of doing this is to help them go against the storms in their lives that may make them lead a miserable life in the future. I did this following the several school dropouts in our community only because the children had no one to support their studies. Besides, the number of ladies who had early pregnancies and early marriages increased every day, and the root cause of all this was poverty. In most cases, these children cannot reach self- actualization, and reaching self-actualization is the growth and development of society.
    3Wishes Women’s Empowerment Scholarship
Women are considered to make important contributions to the economy through business, entrepreneurial jobs, or unpaid labour. Although women in some areas of developing countries hold positions of decision-making and authority, gender inequality remains a crippling societal problem in many parts of the world, and subaltern women are often and alarmingly impacted by hunger, discrimination, and other types of marginalized exploitation .Sustainable economic development is impossible without women's equality, and gender equity policies are the motivating force behind social change and economic growth. Working women make significant contributions to education, fitness, and wellness; thus, achieving gender equity is critical to holistic growth. As both corporate and political leaders, senior women constantly contradict traditional wisdom in their approach to leadership. According to research, the most strong and appealing symbolism of women leaders is the hope that they will bring positive change. People begin to expect that other more practical and less ceremonial shifts are often inevitable as a woman is selected as the first woman to become the most senior official - the chancellor, prime minister, or CEO. Micro and small business enterprises (MSEs) have empowered women in developing countries by improving their decision-making in the household and community. Evidence suggests that MSEs have strengthened women's bargaining power in decision-making on family resource access to use and control, income allocation, and expenditure of household resources. Teach women business skills According to research conducted by the collaboration Vietnam Women's Union and Peace Trees, business training will boost inspiration, success, confidence, and expectations of women entrepreneurs. Teaching women business skills has the potential for long-term benefits in maintaining a business and creating new ones .Encourage more women to work as apprentices. According to a recent survey, there is a need to inspire more young women to pursue apprenticeship opportunities, especially in male-dominated industries. According to the poll, much should be done to encourage women to pursue apprenticeships, and in order to accomplish those reforms, support systems for women and girls could include mentors, networks, and female-friendly workplaces. Improve the climate for job advancement. According to the results of the research, there is a need for more career growth advice and resources for women. Women take more responsibility or ownership for their own job advancement will help them advance to senior executive and board positions. Unpaid labour by women remains one of the most serious questions regarding gender discrimination. Many vulnerable people, including rural women and domestic workers, are often denied economic freedom, and their efforts often go ignored by society. With empowerment initiatives aimed at increasing women's wages, capital can be handled effectively to eliminate the issue. Unpaid labour is a growing problem in many developed countries, especially among rural and low-skilled workers. Women may be motivated to discover and utilize their abilities by influencing the underlying forces and shielding them from aggression and social assault. Woman empowerment programs to focus heavily in women's health and empowerment, empowering women to break free from conventional positions and eliminate gender stereotypes. To keep up with emerging world developments and achieve sustainable development targets, it is time to break down barriers and investigate alternative programs fostering fair opportunity for women and financial inclusion. Legal empowerment tactics may play a role in reforming and questioning patriarchal gender relations justified by tradition. Legal mobilization tactics, rather than leaving changes to the whims of state and neighborhood decision-makers, will pay long-term dividends by encouraging women to assert power from those who rule in their name. Legal advocacy techniques should be used effectively in both formal and informal processes to increase women's access to justice.

For many people of color who grow up in a black community, there is a consistent issue concerning the need to reduce violence, exploit racism and dismantle prejudice foundations. Our communities lack social unity and political resources needed to change oppression that so many of us face, daily . In a gradual way, there is also a psychological pressure that surrounds the fear of many of our children growing up in these environments, and this fear has also caused a mental fear for parents. Children of color tend to be casualties in these types of environments and many parents pray daily that their children will not be harmed. So many of our social problems that have affected various African American communities, have also affected our mental health globally and in turn we are desensitized to those disadvantages. My utopian vision for optimal mental health for the Black community would be a belief that allows a way for these problems to be solved. My first hope is that as a community, we can see improvements in mental health from people of color, in total. My second hope is that we as a community are able to successfully establish an extermination of racism and dismantle prejudice foundations in American society. I say this with conviction in my soul because issues of prejudice and racism are one of the main sources that have contributed to our black communities oppression to successfully improve and change. By removing these sources, as a community we are also able to improve the negative effects that have diminished our mental health. Thus, the true notion is to also have an American society, within that umbrella, a black society, in which we are truly socially free. My utopian vision consists of black children to be born with all of their rights guaranteed and for the existence where they step foot into this world, to be treated equally. My utopian vision is a world, a place where we love the color of our skin and we understand that we can walk out of our homes without being judged by our skin color. In order for that to truly be accomplished, I understand that the distance and the time spent on this issue is tremendous. The truth is that racism is a deeply rooted plant that has sown many seeds in our modern day society. Regardless, we have to stand up, we have to be heard, and we must fight everyday, in order to truly seek and implement change.

One of the biggest anime's that impact me and still has a impact on my life is Naruto Shippuden. In this Anime, Naruto is an outcast in his village, He doesn't have parents, He feels alone but he develops bonds with people in his village (community). Decides to let the pain he endures in his childhood as a pillar to push him to be the greatest ninja from the land of fire. Naruto reminded me of myself. I grew up in a abusive household, where my parents weren't involved in my life. I was an outcast in my family. Yet, I didn't allow my pain to stop me from being the best person I could be. I made sure I used the "will of fire" and my pain to push me to be successful in life. I am the Naruto of my village but in real life.

My reality has helped me to discover the deep sense of compassion that I have for those individuals who are hurting and in need. This is because at some point the reflection of that pain about their care was me. I currently work as a Pathology Laboratory Assistant at Kaiser Oakland Medical Center, which I find to be an incredibly humbling and rewarding experience. Not only has it allowed me the opportunity to help others who are in need but I can continue to be a source of light in their lives. My position has also proven to me that the field of healthcare is undoubtedly the area in which I want to further my career and my soul’s calling. The love I feel when I can help other people and in turn, my devotion to uplift others makes the field of nursing an ideal profession for someone such as myself. Not only will nursing school give me the chance to better people’s lives by improving their health, but it will also grant me the opportunity to fulfill my aspirations of spreading love and compassion to all those individuals in need. No one is a more equipped recipient of these elements than someone such as myself, who has battled continuous burdens and has lived a life of unexpected uncertainties that accompany realities such as health and wellness complications. Whenever I come to work and I can be at a hospital, I feel like it’s a place where individuals need encouragement and inspiration. Wholeheartedly, for staff members like myself, our patients can uplift and bring out a lighthearted side to many of our personalities. This is especially during a work shift in which we can save someone or improve a patient's declining health. I know that obtaining these essential qualities and having a genuine concern for another person's wellbeing can not only be a positive contribution but can also be a major asset to the profession of nursing. For my entire life, I have made health care a priority and I work hard to provide essential care for others. One quote that I live by is from Joyce Meyer, “ No matter what has happened to you in the past or what is going on in your life right now, it has no power to keep you from having an amazingly good future if you will walk by faith in God. God loves you! He wants you to live with victory over sin so you can possess His promises for your life today!”. I truly believe that someone who chooses to go to nursing school & chooses nursing as a healthcare career field should have the knowledge and understanding that anything you do for a patient takes time and make sure whenever you devote time to care for another person make sure you do it to the your abilities. I want to be adamant that if I were to be awarded a scholarship towards my attendance at Concordia University of Texas nursing program, I would not only give my best efforts & derive all that I could from my opportunity but I would also create an environment with the knowledge I am given at this university to become the best nurse for the community I serve.
    Pelipost Overcoming Adversity Scholarship
As a little girl I yearned for a relationship with my father. When I was about seven years old my father was sent to federal prison for ten years for being a drug dealer and selling narcotics within my Oakland community. My father’s incarceration impacted my life, my education and my future goals because I spent a lot of my youth focusing on being loved by strangers instead of focusing on school or my education during that period in my life. Every weekend, I would wait for his calls, looking forward to hearing his voice and as a young women of color, I needed my father to be physically present in order to teach me the necessities of life’s rule of survival. I needed my father to help my mother because she spent a lot of time expressing her frustration toward me and my now deceased brother, Hassani because she lacked those resources that my father would have provided if he was not sent to prison. I needed my fathers protection, I remember a time where I was raped by a young man who live on my street, I was naive then, and didn’t understand the true meaning of how a young woman should conduct herself and also protect herself from people who mean harm. My fathers incarceration was also mentally debilitating for me. I never understand why he was willing to lose his freedom knowing he had children and a wife to take care of. When I missed his letters and didn’t have the resources to simply write a letter back. I started blaming myself for my Dads choices of why he may have gone to prison. I didn’t fully comprehend the magnitude to overcome my adversity through this experience until I was older. It was then that I finally realized that I had to be a better parent to my kids one day. It was then that I set the foundation to be a better provider for the ones I live by taking the righteous route in order to secure financial literacy in a legal manner. My fathers incarceration inspired me to be a better person because I recognize at an early age that the people who are impacted by your absence are the same people who love and believe in you. If you can’t do it for yourself to have a better life, At least live a life that is crime free for the ones who love you the most.

On a daily basis my pain stimulating from the loss of my brother’s murder motivates me to be the best version of myself. Losing my little brother Hassani, triggers the will of fire inside of me. My pain from all my downfalls, from the people I love who are no longer here, from the community damaged I was born into shifts into positive affirmations for me to achieve everything I set in stone. My brother was the type of person in my life that set the path ablaze regarding inspiration. We grew up in a endless cycle, were the exposures to the environments we live in, told us we couldn’t be anything in life but a statistic. Yet the very thing meant to be my pivot point of destruction is my souls derivative to thrive. I am motivated to wake up. Everyday I am reminded that life is a gift, to not only live in the present but be heard, be loud and make every moment in the works count. I have a son and as a single mother, I am also motivated to succeed because I want to change the narrative of poverty in my family. I want to give my son a platform to build from, a foundation he can grow in. I am also motivated but the person I see in the mirror. My strength and resolve regardless of what the world faces me with, regardless of the pain I have endured in my life. My light to be heard, to make a difference overshadows all of the variables that would count me out as a mother, as a student and as a young woman from the Bay Area. I’m motivated lastly, by my lessons to learn from my mistakes and to live another day to grow.
