My life goal is to continue and improve my practice in nursing to help better serve the community that I am in, and to improve myself so I can be a better role model for my family and others around me. I am most passionate about working in underserved communities that don't have the resources available because I empathize with those in the community because I was once in that position. I am very involved in school organizations, such as being on the E-board for Student Nurses Association and Nursing Honor Society and a previous E-board member of International Student Association. I am also involved with athletics, being on the Men's Tennis Team for MSOE and being captain for the 2023 fall season. I believe that I am a great candidate for your scholarship because I am committed to compassionate patient-centered care, lifelong learning, and have a passion for nursing and healthcare in general. I am working two jobs to support myself and help support my parents whenever I can while going to school full-time, on top of college athletics.

The nursing industry interests me as a career choice because it really reminds me of how human we all are. In nursing, you interact with a lot of people who are at the lowest point in their lives physically and mentally, and it is your job to help them overcome this point in their lives. You learn a lot about people and their stories, the good and the bad, and everything in between. Another aspect of nursing that I hold very important and dear to me is that you learn something new every day, and it is a lifelong experience of learning. I believe I have found my calling in this career path, and my passion and enthusiasm for my work and studies have been answered through pursuing nursing.
My goals for a successful career include putting my patients and their families first, advancing my knowledge and skills throughout my life, and giving back to my community. My accomplishments that have helped my pursuit of my goals include being very involved in my college’s nursing organizations, such as Student Nurse’s Association and Nursing Honor Society as an E-board member. As an E-board member for both organizations, I have been involved in organizing events that advance both my knowledge and skills, while also supporting my community. I have been involved in organizing career panels and educational events that reinforce my knowledge and teach me new things, while also organizing events that raise support for donations to those in need. These events include fundraising for eating disorders and blanket-making events to donate to those in need. One of my biggest accomplishments to date is being nominated for a DAISY Award as a student, which serves as a reminder to me why I chose this path, and how this career allows me to have a positive impact on others.
In high school, I volunteered at a food pantry in my local community. While volunteering there, I was mentored a lot by healthcare personnel who also volunteered there, and learned a lot about healthcare and where my passion resided. During the COVID pandemic, I volunteered there constantly and found peace in interacting with people and helping those in need. Then, I did dual enrollment classes at a community college for my Certified Nursing Assistant training, and I loved interacting with residents in a nursing home. In my junior year of nursing school, I went through nursing clinicals in hospital settings in different specialties. There, I learned so much and was able to interact even more with patients while also incorporating my knowledge and skills in a hospital setting. I was also given a job offer and hired at one of the clinical sites as a nurse extern, where I currently work. As of right now, I work at two hospitals both located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a nurse extern/intern in two different specialties. I work at Aurora St. Luke’s Hospital as a nurse extern in a surgical ICU stepdown unit, and at Ascension St. Joseph’s Hospital in the emergency department as a nurse intern. As a senior, my work experience prepares me for my future career goals as a nurse, along with the expertise and skills to provide competent patient-centered care. At Ascension St. Joseph’s Hospital, we advocate and provide care for an underserved community, where without our hospital it would be a healthcare desert. This allows me to continue to give back to my community, along with the excitement and enrichment of nursing.
