Growing up in Mississippi as a single mother and survivor of domestic violence, I’ve seen firsthand how broken systems and lack of access can leave entire families feeling hopeless. But I’ve also seen how one helping hand—a nurse who listens, a neighbor who cares, a resource that meets a need—can make all the difference. That is why I am deeply passionate about helping my community. I don’t just want to provide care; I want to be a beacon of hope, a bridge to healing, and a living example of what resilience looks like in action.
My journey has not been easy. I’ve faced sleepless nights wondering how to feed my children, fought to keep a roof over our heads, and battled the emotional scars of trauma. But through it all, one thing remained constant: my desire to rise—not only for myself, but for others like me. I know what it’s like to feel unseen, unheard, and unsupported. That’s why I’ve chosen a path where I can stand in those gaps for others. Nursing is more than a profession to me; it’s my calling.
In my career, I plan to use my experiences to serve vulnerable and underserved populations—particularly single parents, low-income families, and survivors of abuse. I intend to start as a Registered Nurse with a focus on community health and maternal care. Eventually, I hope to open a mobile clinic that brings medical support, education, and emotional care directly to those who need it most. I also want to create a nonprofit that offers resources such as school supplies, bill assistance, and support groups for single parents and survivors. This isn’t just a dream—it’s a necessity in communities like mine, where access to quality care is often limited by income, location, or circumstance.
Beyond the clinical work, I want to use my voice to advocate for systemic change. I believe that education, healing, and empowerment should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their past or zip code. I want to work alongside local organizations, schools, and churches to promote health literacy, preventative care, and mental wellness. I plan to mentor other young women and single mothers, reminding them that they are never too broken, too late, or too far gone to start over.
Receiving this scholarship would not only ease the financial burden of my education, it would be an investment in a future that touches countless lives. With your support, I can become the nurse who doesn’t just heal wounds but helps rebuild lives.
This is more than a career path. It’s a promise—a promise to my children, to my community, and to every person who’s ever felt forgotten. I am determined to turn my pain into purpose and create a legacy of care, compassion, and change that lasts far beyond me.
