or most of my adult life, I worked in sales. It was a stable career, and it allowed me to provide for my wife and our three children. From the outside, it looked like success. But inside, I felt unfulfilled. I wasn’t making a meaningful difference in people’s lives, and over time, I began to realize that stability alone was not enough. I wanted my work to have purpose. I wanted to help people in a way that truly mattered. The turning point came when I realized that I was also setting an example for my children. I wanted them to see what it means to live with purpose, to have the courage to pursue something meaningful, and to understand that it is never too late to change direction. At 41 years old, I made the difficult decision to leave my career in sales and pursue my dream of becoming a nurse. It was both terrifying and empowering. I was stepping into the unknown, but for the first time in my professional life, I felt aligned with my purpose. My experiences working as an EMT confirmed that I was on the right path. I cared for people in their most vulnerable moments—many of whom were homeless, alone, or struggling with addiction and illness. I remember speaking with patients who had lost hope, who felt invisible and forgotten. In those moments, I realized that sometimes the most important thing you can offer someone is compassion, dignity, and reassurance. I saw firsthand how much it mattered to have someone who cared. Today, as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the cardiac care unit at Primary Children's Hospital, I continue to witness both the fragility and resilience of life. Caring for children with serious heart conditions and supporting their families during times of fear and uncertainty has profoundly shaped me. I have seen strength in young patients and courage in their parents that has inspired me in ways I never expected. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to serving others and reinforced my desire to continue my education so I can do more. Returning to school while supporting a family has required sacrifice, long hours, and unwavering determination. There have been moments of exhaustion and doubt, but my purpose has never been clearer. I am doing this not only to build a meaningful career, but to show my children that growth, courage, and perseverance do not have an expiration date. I want them to know that it is never too late to pursue your dreams and become the person you are meant to be. My goal is to use my nursing education to serve my community with compassion and skill. I want to be the person who brings comfort during fear, hope during uncertainty, and care during vulnerability. This scholarship will help ease the financial burden of returning to school while raising a family, allowing me to focus on completing my education and continuing this path of service. This journey has changed my life. It has taught me that true fulfillment comes not from what you achieve for yourself, but from what you give to others. I am committed to becoming a nurse not just as a career, but as a calling.

I am a husband and father of three, and my family is the foundation of everything I do. Pursuing a career in healthcare is not only a personal goal, but also an opportunity to show my children that it is never too late to pursue your dreams and build a life centered on purpose and service. My work experience as an EMT and now as a Certified Nursing Assistant has profoundly shaped my education by giving it meaning, direction, and real-world relevance. My first experience in healthcare was working as an EMT on an ambulance. In that role, I responded to emergencies and cared for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. Many of the patients I encountered were homeless or struggling with addiction, mental illness, and chronic medical conditions. I often met individuals who had lost hope and felt invisible to the world around them. These experiences taught me that healthcare is about more than treating physical symptoms—it is about recognizing the humanity in every person and providing care with dignity and compassion. I learned how to remain calm under pressure, think critically in urgent situations, and connect with patients from all walks of life. This experience strengthened my emotional resilience and gave me a deeper understanding of the challenges many people face beyond their medical conditions. I currently work as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the cardiac care unit at a children’s hospital, where I help care for children with serious and often life-threatening heart conditions. This experience has had a profound impact on both my personal and professional growth. Caring for pediatric patients requires not only technical skill and attention to detail, but also patience, empathy, and emotional strength. I have learned the importance of being attentive to small changes in a patient’s condition and communicating effectively with the healthcare team. Supporting families during difficult and uncertain times has also taught me the importance of compassion and emotional presence in patient care. My work experience has greatly enhanced my education by giving context to the knowledge I am gaining in the classroom. I am able to connect what I learn academically to real patient situations, which strengthens my understanding and motivates me to excel. I approach my education with a sense of purpose because I know that the skills and knowledge I gain will directly impact the lives of the patients I serve. Balancing work, school, and family has required discipline, perseverance, and strong time management, all of which have helped me grow both personally and professionally. These experiences have confirmed my desire to continue my education and become a nurse. I want to take on greater responsibility in patient care and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. My journey has taught me the value of compassion, resilience, and lifelong learning. I am committed to using my education and experience to provide high-quality care, support my family, and serve my community with dedication and purpose.
