The field of mental and behavioral health, nursing, and addiction medicine presents a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of individuals and communities. This essay will outline my personal motivations for pursuing a career in this field and highlight the contributions I aspire to make. Drawing upon my experiences, passion, and commitment, I believe that my journey in mental and behavioral health will help revolutionize the way we approach and address these critical areas of healthcare.
Growing up, I witnessed the profound impact mental health issues can have on individuals, families, and communities. Close encounters with loved ones struggling with addiction, anxiety, and depression further fueled my desire to engage in mental and behavioral health-related studies. I witness the cycle of addiction with most of my parents siblings and the effects it causes on the offspring. Which could eventually create a stigma for the child’s success. However, my resolution is to become an advocate for change in this field. I don’t want to witness another family go through the horrors of mental illness.
At the age of twenty-two my anxiety levels spiked at an all times high. It started from being overwhelmed with all the new changes. But as I continue to keep doing research there are
millions of individuals worldwide being affected by anxiety. I would say it is a mixture of feeling worry, fear, and unease that can be debilitating and impact daily life. Anxiety can manifest in different ways, such as panic attacks, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and social anxiety.
My decision to pursue mental and behavioral health studies stems from an unwavering desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who are suffering and mainly myself. By studying these disciplines, I aim to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to provide empathetic, evidence-based care to people in need.
My ultimate goal is to help foster a society that prioritizes mental well- being and acknowledges that mental health is an integral part of overall health. In the future, I aspire to contribute to the field in the following ways: I aim to increase awareness about mental health, addiction, and behavioral issues within local communities and healthcare systems. By dispelling stigma, misinformation, and misconceptions.
I believe that people will feel more comfortable seeking help and support. I am passionate about integrative approaches that encompass physical, social, and psychological well-being.
By adopting a holistic perspective, I intend to address the complex nature of mental and behavioral health issues while considering the interplay of various factors such as genetics, environment, and lifestyle.
I will also strive to serve as a voice for those struggling with mental health conditions and addiction, ensuring their needs are heard and understood. By actively advocating for evidence-based practices and the allocation of resources. I aim to influence a policy that changes and contribute to the improvement of the healthcare system.
In conclusion, mental health is the building blocks of maintaining an healthy homeostasis environment. It is an essential component of overall well-being and allows individuals to navigate through life's challenges. If your brain is healthy, the world is your oyster!
