I was born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa and graduated from Richardsbay High School with a 3.0 GPA. Ever since I was little I’ve always loved kids, I was the designated babysitter for my parents friends and neighbors. I love looking after them as well as working with them. I always kind off knew I wanted to do something related to kids but I was never sure exactly what, that was until I came to the United States as an Aupair in 2023. I fell in love with teaching and the rest was history. With my AuPair experience coming to an end, I’m so excited to start this new chapter in my life.

As a kid my favorite game to play was teacher teacher, I would spend hours teaching my “class” and handing out papers on our staircase to them and then collect it all again to mark. I would hand it out again the next day for them to see their marks and then teach my class something new and that would keep my busy for days in a row. My dad later on bought me my own board with chalk and even files to put my “class’s” tests in. Eventually I grew up like everyone does and decided to become an AuPair. I started with volunteering at a school to get enough experience, followed by working with a extracurricular activities company that worked with different schools and then I tested the waters by becoming a temporary AuPair for a family in my home town before I left to go AuPair far away from my family in Washington DC. I ended up staying there for two years working for this lovely family. It was during this time that I realized I wanted to be a teacher. My host kid started going to school two days a week and I homeschooled her the other three days. Once a month I had to go in with her for ‘duty days’ where I spent the day as the teacher’s helper. I fell in love with teaching all over again. I felt like that little girl playing teacher teacher on the steps. I soon found myself taking on other parents duty days and even started subbing for teachers that was sick. I loved every second of it. I knew without a doubt this was the career for me, this was what I was meant to be doing for the rest of my life. My mind then started thinking back to the teachers I had in High School. The teachers that loved teaching so much it made me love my subjects and even made me start to love school. I want to be a teacher like that, someone that causes students to love school and their classes, someone who teaches with so much love and pride for their job that it changes kids lives and someone who who can put a smile to the kids faces no matter the day they had before walking into my class. That’s the type of teacher I want to be.
I wasted no time in applying to Universities and soon got accepted. I am now doing my bachelors in elementary education and I can’t wait to see what the future haas in store for me.
Dr. Connie M. Reece Future Teacher Scholarship
I had this amazing teacher a couple years back in high school, she loved her job so much and made her class so much fun that most of us didn’t even realize we were learning through all the fun we had. She changed my whole perspective on school completely and made me start to actually like it, which was not something I saw ever happening. I always found myself looking forward to her classes and she made me realize that when you really love your job, you can inspire others to love it too. It wasn’t until four years after I graduated high school and started working as an AuPair that I realized I wanted to be a teacher, but the moment I figured it out I knew she was my role model, she was the type of teacher I wanted to be to my future students. I love working with kids, I always have and now I know how I want to work with them and also what I want to spend the rest of my life doing. I want to be the best teacher I possibly can, I want to make learning fun and change the lives of my students, give them the same experience I had. I know I will give my all and I fully believe that I chose the right career and I can’t wait to finish my studies and start my future.
I have quite a lot of experience with working with kids, I volunteered at a school for a couple of months, followed by working for a company that helps with kids development through building blocks which I did for about a year. I then became a temporary AuPair for a family in my home town in South Africa followed by becoming an AuPair in Washington DC for a family for two years. I loved each job I had and enjoyed it so much, kids bring such a joy to the world and I can’t imagine myself in a different career path. Even the hard days couldn’t scare me off. Working with kids is definitely not always the easiest job in the world, but man is it rewarding seeing these little kids grow up to be such sweet big kids. I will forever hold the kids I worked with up until this point close in my heart. I am extremely thankful for the opportunities I’ve been lucky to have up until this point in my life.
I was born and raised in South Africa, and I came to the US unsure about what I was going to do for the rest of my life, and I left the US with a clear plan in mind. I am currently an online student at an American university. I am also currently in South Africa while I await my visa to fly back to the US. I am so excited for my future and the chance to change lives through my teaching and look forward to being the best teacher I can.

I was raised in South Africa in small town with divorced parents who heavily dislike each other. My dad’s side of the family had always been problematic and constantly make my mom’s life harder just because she walked out on my dad. My dad’s side of the family are all alcoholic’s who believe they are the good guys and never do anything wrong, they are to be praised and talked good about by everyone and the moment my mom did the opposite they tried to destroy her.
My mom took us out of that house and fought for custody and won. She gave me and my sister a better life, and if you ask her how she did it she would say God helped her. My mom is the strongest person I know, she is my hero.
The moment I grew up and started noticing my dad’s side of the family was the bad guys they turned on me, and disowned me and tried to make me the bad guy for not choosing to support their wrong and hateful actions. And if you ask me how i dealt with it my answer would be God.
I knew I wanted to be an AuPair the moment I heard what it was. It was perfect for me, I mean looking after kids and seeing America at the same time, sounds like a dream. So after I graduated high school I volunteered at a pre school to get more hours of experience with kids. Then two years later after volunteering at and working for a preschool I signed up with an agency. It all happened in a flash and next thing I knew my bags was packed and I was on a flight to the US.
Soon after I got here my host kid started going to school and little did I know I was about to find my future career. She started attending a co-op which meant once a month I had to go to school with her and help the teacher out with the kids and that’s when I fell in love with teaching. I started to sub for parents that couldn’t make their designated duty days and soon after for teachers that couldn’t come into school for being sick or for personal reasons. Immediately I knew this is it, this is what I want to do with my life. I want to be a teacher, I want to be the best teacher I possibly can, I want to be a teacher.
My mind started thinking back to the teachers I had in High School. The teachers that loved teaching so much it made me love my subjects and start to love school. That’s the type of teacher I want to be.
I also got saved during this time and started attending chruch. I gave my life to the Lord and never looked back. Today I’m in the US pursuing my dreams with my mom back home in South Africa being my biggest supporter. They barely talk to me but i deal with it and keep my trust in the Lord to get me through it all.

A little background on my life: I was born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa. I have a sister that is three years younger than me. My parents got divorced when we were still young, we were raised primarily by my mom and saw my dad every second weekend. My family still currently live in South Africa.

I made a hard choice, I left all my family and friends, basically my whole life behind to pursue my dreams. It’s very hard but worth it. Many family members don’t support my decision and are resentful towards me but I believe this was and is the right choice. It’s what I’m meant to do with my life.
With my AuPair experience coming to an end, I’m so excited to start this new chapter in my life.

I believe the purpose of education is to ready these kids for the real world, and have them walk out with all the knowledge they would need in order to succeed. My background influences my approach to teaching quite a bit since I had many teachers who didn’t like their job and made it clear they didn’t really like kids which made the classes horrible and for a while made me hate school but all it took was one teacher to turn it all around and make school a safe space again, and that’s who I want to be in the scenario.
I hope to continuously grow and better myself and my knowledge in order to better teach the kids in my classroom. I want to have a good impact on my kids and show them if they work hard, their dreams can come true. I want to use the teaching strategies my favorite teacher used in my classroom, I want to make learning fun and school enjoyable and I hope to make my dream come true with hard work and dedication to those kids.

1989 (Taylor's Version) Fan Scholarship
My love for Taylor Swift started in high school when I first heard her song ‘Mine’ from Speak Now. I could really relate to that song since I come from a divorced household and have a complicated relationship with my dad but this song healed a part of my heart I never knew was broken.
Fast forward a couple years later and I am still a Swiftie and have a love for her songs. I can relate to so many things that she sings about and have gone through. Now getting to 1989 my favorite song from when it just came out was between ‘Style’ and ‘Blank space’ those two songs I still have on my playlist and still love just as much and obviously ‘Shake it off’ was a big hit and will forever be, but the song that struck me most from 1989 Taylor’s Version is ‘Is it over now?’ I immediately loved the song and think I forever will.
Now to the burning question: If my year had a soundtrack what would it be?
It would definitely have my previously mentioned favorites, ‘Style’ and ‘Blank space’ but some new additions would be ‘Is it over now?’ As well as ‘Now that we don’t talk’ some more would be ‘How you get the girl’ and ‘You are in love’
Style is a hit and is just so relatable and plus who doesn’t love the Harry Styles description. It’s a great song about falling in love with the wrong person and I have fallen in love with the wrong person.
Blank space is great and sometimes even though you know a person would be the wrong choice you just have to go for it and hope for the best.
Is it over now is perfect for that person that it’s just never over with, they always make their way back to you and even when it’s over no one can replace them and you just can’t forget them.
Now that we don’t talk is kind of self explanatory, breaking up with someone you thought were good but everyone knew wasn’t. Now you can be yourself and not who he wanted you to be.
How you get the girl is for the hopeless romantic girlies that just want a guy written by a woman, a guy that knows how to treat and spoil a girl, a guy that is perfect and this song tells a guy exactly what to do and how to fix things when he messed up.
You are in love is once again for the hopeless romantic girlies, the girls that love love and love being in love and love songs about love and being in love. I love love!
Once Upon a #BookTok Scholarship
I fell in love with reading on Wattpad when I was in high school. I think that is a universal experience for readers. A couple years later and it’s still my favorite thing in the world. I have moved on from Wattpad to published authors.
My ideal bookshelf would be ‘A court of thorns and roses by Sarah J. Maas’ , ‘Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros’ , ‘The inheritance games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ as well as the ‘Twisted love series by Ana Huang’ these are all title that have been circulating my for you page and also next on my ‘to be read’ list. I’ve heard they are all five star reads and I really hope so.
Some must-haves I have discovered on BookTok consists of ‘The spanish love deception by Elena Armas’ , ‘Book lovers by Emily Henry’ , ‘Six of crows by Leigh Bardugo’ , ‘We were liars by E. Lockhart’ , ‘The hating game by Sally Thorne’ and more. These I just mentioned were all five star reads for me and I would highly recommend them.
Some other books I have read that weren’t exactly five stars but still a good read were ‘They both die at the end by Adam Silvera’ , ‘It ends with us by Colleen Hoover’ , ‘The seven husbands of evelyn hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid’ , ‘People we meet on vacation by Emily Henry’ and more.
Like I previously mentioned Wattpad started my love for reading but what I didn’t mention was that I stopped reading after a while - we’ve all experienced a reading slump that lasted a couple months, but ‘It ends with us by Colleen Hoover is the book that got me out of that reading slump and restarted my love for reading.
But what really got me going was the series by Holly Jackson called A good girls guide to murder. The series consists of four books and after reading them in the beginning of twenty twenty three I could not stop reading.
My reading goal for twenty twenty three was twelve books and I read seventeen books last year, overpassing my reading goal with five books. My reading goal for twenty twenty four was fifteen books and I have so far read twenty seven books and this is only the tenth month. I have surpassed my reading goal with twelve books. I can’t wait to see how many I read in the last two months.
My love for reading is something that I don’t think will ever fade. The occasional reading slump happens but I always bounce back.
Ethel Hayes Destigmatization of Mental Health Scholarship
I have struggled a bit with mental health and found myself in a dark place when I was in my teenager years but I have never resulted in self harm or the thought of committing suicide. Although I have had someone close to me struggle with both self harm and attempting to take her life.
We have been friends for seventeen years and the moment she opened up about her mental health it broke my heart. Hearing about the times she has hurt herself or even attempted to take her life made me realize that even when people seem fine they are not always. I promised right there to be more observant when it comes to my friends and their mental health.
I came to the realization that mental health can cause someone to lose track of their goals and let go of relationships and just fall away from the world. In order to understand the world and how it works you need to also know that mental health is a big thing that can ruin lives, both the lives of the people struggling with it and also the people that love the people that struggles with it.
Love your friends and family and take care of them and make sure you are the type of person they can come to about their struggles and mental health issues.
Sabrina Carpenter Superfan Scholarship
I first heard of Sabrina Carpenter when she played in ‘Girl Meets World’ and I immediately loved her character. From there I started listening to her music and became an even bigger fan. With songs like ‘Can’t blame a girl for trying’ , ‘Thumbs’ and ‘On Purpose’ I was becoming an even bigger fan of her.
Afterwards I didn’t keep up with her as much as I used to until she had drama with Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Basset and suddenly she was everywhere. I started listening to her music again and loved the new songs she released among all that drama. I had watched her movies like ‘Tall girl’ and my favorite movie of her ‘Work it’ and my all time favorite a couple years ago ‘Adventures in babysitting’.
Now Sabrina is a big star and I follow her career whether it’s listening to all her new songs or watching movies and series she plays in. I can relate to many of her songs and quite a few are played on repeat. I would call myself a long time Sabrina Carpenter fan and can’t wait to see what she has planned for the future whether it be music or acting i’m here for it.

“I loved you truly
Gotta laugh at the stupidity
Cause I’ve made some real big mistakes
But you made the worst one look fine”
People say sixteen is too young to fall in love and that a teenager that age doesn’t really understand the meaning of falling in love, I disagreed then and now at twenty two I still disagree. I still fully believe what I felt was love and the heartbreak I experienced is still as real as the day it happened.
I relate to this song and specifically this verse because the boy I fell in love with never really loved me back and to this day I feel stupid for thinking that he did. The signs were always there I just refused to see it, it was always one sided, even from the start. I’ve made some mistakes that caused him to get mad at me but I was still a kid and it was little insignificant mistakes.
My dad was never a good role model and I suspect that’s why I chose the boys I chose, it was never intentional though. You know the saying that girls choose guys similar to their dad’s. Even when I tried my hardest not to, I always accidentally chose a guy that was like my dad. I tried hard not to and yet I always failed.
My teenage years was hard, growing up with an dad that had issues and then falling in love with guys that has issues and then because of those said issues would break my young heart. I’m older now and know better and have moved past choosing the wrong guys but nothing hurts like your first heartbreak even if you were sixteen when it happened and even if years have passed.
I’m twenty two now and have met the love of my life and is set to marry him in a couple months. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and can’t wait to spend forever with him and what makes him even better than he is, is the fact that he’s the opposite of my dad. I have moved on from choosing the wrong guys and know the guy I have chosen is the right choice.
I still love Olivia’s songs and can relate to many and hope to have her release some love songs in the future so that I can relate to that too.

Neither my parents finished high school which meant they struggled to find good jobs, and they had me and my sister very young so the first couple years were hard and the rest well it was hard too. Money was tight and life was hard for my parents. They went through a divorce soon after and life got harder. I never thought I would have the opportunity to go to college since we never had the money but in 2023 I came to the US from South Africa to become an AuPair. I now have more opportunity's to go study and get a degree and maybe offer my future children a better life and better future’s.

I want to be a teacher like that, someone that causes students to love school and their classes, someone who teaches with so much love and pride for their job that it changes kids lives and someone who who can put a smile to the kids faces no matter the day they had before walking into my class. That’s the type of teacher I want to be. That is my goal in life.

A little background on my life: I was born and raised in Kwa-Zulu Natal South Africa. I have a sister that is three years younger than me. My parents got divorced when we were still young, we were raised primarily by my mom and saw my dad every second weekend. My family still currently live in South Africa. Neither my parents finished high school and I didn’t think I would ever be able to go to College, we never had the money for it, but since coming to the US the opportunity’s are so much more and it can be possible for me now. I want to go to college and give a better life to my future kids , better than how I grew up.
With my AuPair experience coming to an end, I’m so excited to start this new chapter in my life.
